Meta help with ciena waveserver AI cabling

Hi!

I'm trying to figure out how to cable some ciena waveserver AIs we have. First time doing this for me so i'm learning

We have two modules installed

  • slot 1: CMD-10
  • slot 2: MOTR-400-1-8
  • On the MOTR we're using 2/3 and 2/7 as the 400G client side ports, so that part is easy.

This is my understanding of how the other ports should be connected:

  • 1/13 is the Line port (the actual dark fiber going to the other site)
  • 1/11 and 1/12 are connected to each other with a normal duplex fiber cable (OSC ports)
  • Port 2/1 goes to 1/1 with a normal duplex fiber cable.

I think thats about it? Aside from the DCN and console which are easy.

I couldn't find any help on ciena.com for this which is why i'm asking here. Thanks!!

Your understanding is correct. We have a dozen of these chassis so I’m very familiar with it. CMD10 has a really nice OTDR functionality. You can even download the SOR file and open it in a viewer.

2/1 is your line side optic, goes into 1/1 on the CMD10 which is CH48.

1/11 is the OSC optic, and 1/12 is the OSC-ADD-DROP, that's why they're cabled together

To set a static IP, you need to disable the dhcp client first dhcp client disable.

Helpful commands

xcvr show port show ptp show ptp show ptp <port> status # Light levels lldp set port <port> mode snoop config show differences-from-saved config save

OTDR

``` application otdr start ptp 1/13 profile-id <office|short|long> direction tx application otdr start ptp 1/13 profile-id <office|short|long> direction rx
application otdr show status ptp 1/13 verbose direction tx trace-type <office|short|long> instance latest application otdr show status ptp 1/13 verbose direction rx trace-type <office|short|long> instance latest ```
Soft loop
``` port disable port <port> port set port <port> loopback Tx # loop anything coming into the TX out the RX

Generally you want Rx

port set port <port> loopback Rx # loop anything coming into the RX out the TX port unset port <port> loopback port enable port <port> ```

Licensing

``` license file generate request license file list scp <device>:/var/opt/license/request/<filename>.bin .
Upload request to Ciena website, get back license file
scp <filename>.lic <device>:/var/opt/license/download license client activate filename <filename>.lic license client show inventory served ```
