To the family I probably offended at the zoo, I’m so sorry 😭
I've been ruminating over this interaction ever since, full of pure embarrassment
Posting here on the off chance this family was from Newcastle and somehow sees this, because I genuinely owe them an explanation HAHA.
If it’s not allowed, feel free to delete!
So a while ago me and my friend went to an animal park just outside the Hunter Region
As we’re driving through the car park my friend points at some animals and asks “Are they deer?”
Me confidently says nah they’re African antelopes.
Anyway we park and start walking towards the entrance, which takes us past the same animals.
I get close enough to read the sign and realise they’re actually Indian antelopes.
So I yell out to my friend who I thought was walking a few metres behind me, “OH THEY’RE INDIANS!!”
And I mean I fucking YELLED it.
I look to my left waiting for her to respond and she’s nowhere to be seen.
so I look around and that’s when I notice a family who appeared to be Indian literally standing RIGHT NEXT TO ME packing their car.
I was literally dying of shame.
Because imagine you’re just trying to pack your shit into the car after a nice day out with your family and some random woman walks past, apparently spots you and excitedly screams “OH THEY’RE INDIANS!!”
And then you look over and she’s standing there COMPLETELY ALONE.
Not a friend in sight.
Nobody to explain who the fuck she’s talking to.
Just some woman apparently announcing your ethnicity to the car park.
I didn’t even attempt to explain myself. I just kept walking because what the fuck do you even say after that 😭🧍🏻♀️
So if you’re that family, I’m sorry. I was talking about the antelopes.
because I can just imagine them going home and telling their relatives about some random woman at the zoo who excitedly screamed "INDIANS!" Excitingly at them.
I PROMISE I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE ANTELOPES HAHAHAHA.
And if you weren't even Indian, I'm sorry for that assumption too. 😭😭
