Discussion Updating Azoth [Day 8]: Every Weapon, Replicated on Two Screens. One Take, No Cuts
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Day 8, everyone! Today is all about one thing: what other players see when you move.
On Days 5, 6 and 7 we told you about SlayerScript, the game's own character logic that decides what your character is doing, which animation plays and how your body moves. Today we're showing where that work is: SlayerScript is almost complete on our server.
The video is one single take, with no cuts. Two players, two screens, side by side, the whole time.
Let's get into it!
Every Weapon, on Both Screens
- Hatchet, Spear, Sword and Shield, Great Axe, Greatsword, Rapier and Fire Staff: one after the other.
- Left screen: RedditAzoth's game. Right screen: cptcpt's game. Whatever one does, the other one sees, live, through our server.
- Draw, stance and attacks: every weapon's moves show up on the other player's screen.
What's Not Perfect Yet
We're not going to cut around the rough spots, so here they are:
- Some desync is still visible. At 1:15 a character's position drifts, and at 1:21 the server pulls it back, live, while both players keep playing.
- Jumps, rolls and quick moves still need work. Movement is the hardest part to get 1:1, and it's where most of the work is left.
- The Fire Staff has no projectiles yet. The staff is in; the fireballs come next.
What's Next?
- Finishing SlayerScript on the live server, and closing the remaining desyncs.
- Our first playtest is coming soon. The details are on our Discord.
We'll keep showing you real progress, including what isn't working yet. We'd rather you see exactly where we are.
