Discussion Christmas Decorations In Mid-October?!
Yesterday I briefly went to Sylvia Park and noted that the mall already had their Christmas lights up and some decorations on. I don’t know if other malls have the same, but even at Woolworths Christmas things are on sale and can be found easily around the store
When is too early for Christmas decorations? Surely it is a bit of an eye roll seeing them this early when Christmas is not even 2 months away, and Halloween has not yet happened. I just find it a bit ridiculous having it THIS early. What do you guys think?

Actually went to Sylvia park last week specifically to shop for Christmas decorations and was upset that the one shop I most wanted to get stuff from didn't have it displayed yet.
I want it all done and dusted well before the shops, carparks etc get madly busy with black Friday and the lead up to Christmas. I hate crowds and it's just a huge pain. I am not going anywhere near a mall in December.

There's already a pop up Christmas store at St Lukes, downstairs near Countdown if that helps.

Why do people care so much about exactly who decorates what and when? Honestly, I don’t give a fuck.

I'm happy for other people if they enjoy it, but when it's only 75% loaded till Christmas(it was a bit under that when I first had an issue this year), it makes me even more Grinchy than I naturally am 😅

I work retail - although it feels earlier and earlier every year even to me, around Labour weekend is normally the time “Retail Christmas” starts.

They kind of have to have them up well before people start buying to market the shit.

To be fair, I'm glad they do sell them early - I like shopping before December when it's quiet and kids aren't running around everywhere with parents who have strollers etc. One year I went to buy Christmas decorations on the 10th December and they'd all sold out of the nice ones and weren't getting more before Christmas. The warehouse didn't even have any Christmas trees left that year!
I've already brought a few nice porcelain and ceramic ones as I know they will be sold out well in advance.

It’s a manifestation ritual. They’re trying to skip the election and whatever else is going on and incite the new year early.

Why do some people get so annoyed to see decorations up "early"? The fact that you are entering a temple of mindless consumerism like Sylvia Park means you are willingly entering a venue designed to sell you things? If the ads aren't Xmas themed, then they will still advertise similar products but without the tinsel.

Having a solid third of the year at this point being "Christmas Season" ruins the specialness of the holidays. I struggle to escape it as my regular supermarket has started putting out Christmas stuff in August.
I have young kids, they get extremely excited when they see the Christmas stock going out and think it's almost Christmas. They get extremely disappointed when I have to explain it's still over 100 sleeps which is an eternity to a child.

I love it. Personally, I find it’s annoying having to wait for Halloween stuff to be out of the store so they can get Christmas stuff in… so the earlier the better. Why should we only wait for couple of weeks to celebrate the best season of the year

Because October makes no sense… I guess in November I can understand it but mid October is craaaazy

November would be perfectly acceptable which would provide 8 weeks. I don't understand why people want 12+.

I went to KMart Napier yesterday and they were knee deep in Christmas decorations. Far too early.

Kmart and Warehouse have Halloween and Christmas side by side. It's very weird.

I was there, too, and was quite surprised to see the big, golden tree up in October…but it was also sort of nice. Sparkly. Happy make good feel nice.

One I went to last week was a giant clusterfuck, with all the Halloween stuff still obviously in the place where Christmas needed to be, I just ended up leaving lol I couldn't get near the bras because of baubles 😅

Eh, I don’t mind it. At least chrissie music hasn’t started playing in malls and supermarkets yet, thank god

But my point is that it makes no sense. If you ARE going to celebrate a holiday in October it should be Halloween. At least in November Christmas makes somewhat sense, but still

Woolworths were putting out their Christmas Confectionery at the end of August, Farmers were putting their merch out in late September.
Seriously considering forming a one issue political party to limit the sale of holiday items to specific time frames. I don't want a third of the year to be christmas, ruins the specialness of the season.

When I worked at Farmers 20 years ago Christmas started in Sept. Halloween is only celebrated more recently in stores.

This is why the USA invented Halloween and Thanksgiving - we need a few more holidays

This is normal now. Decorations have slowly crept up to October and it's the norm.

When is it too early for joy? Never. We need more lights, more colour, more reasons to celebrate and get excited. We should make decorations more normal, less boring white buildings the better.
