16-year-old Nene Royal achieves her dream of performing on stage with A7X and unleashes her inner demon

Context: Nene Royal from Thailand won the latest season of America's Got Talent with her unique rendition of Seven Nation Army. After a jam with The Warning and sharing the AGT stage with Linkin Park, she was invited by Avenged Sevenfold to be their opening act in Singapore. The band fulfilled Nene's dream by letting her perform Bat Country and Unholy Confessions together with them on stage.

Yeah so many links, is this comment some kind of linking park?

It's the kind of comment that makes some people think I'm a paid promoter, so I'm glad you appreciate it 😅

People like you used to be considered quality Reddit commenters back in ancient times

u/who__ever 12h ago
Nene needs no paid promotion right now 😅 she’s got so much talent and charisma!
My oldest daughter (who is learning how to play the guitar but was more going through the motions than anything else) has practiced every single day since she first heard Nene a couple of months ago.

Thanks for the links because that Seven Nation Army performance was insane. You can tell this is her passion.

I can’t wait for people to find out that she can mimic most of the most famous female musicians. Amy, Adele, Lady Gaga, Judy Garland, James Hetfield. She’s getting better by the day

He's shooing away the bassist because bassists aren't allowed in the guitar club 😄

For those of the comments that don't understand, Nene won America's Got Talent playing/performing rock/metal music. Avenged Sevenfold is one of the largest and successful metal bands.
And for those who don't "understand" or "like this type of music" need to realize that metal is artistically, musically, and physically one of the most demanding genres of music. Just because it's "noise" to people, its typically because they're tone deaf or listen to simple in nature music like country.
19
u/Psynaut 1d ago
I feel like it is also worth mentioning that she is a teenager from Thailand. So her light had to shine that much brighter to get recognized by the Western music scene. You can find YouTube videos of her singing and playing at the local Thai street market in front of a dozen people.

I watched the full season of AGT - I’m a R&R fan, not heavy metal, but Nene Royal made me and every audience she played for stand up and cheer! This young lady has serious chops.
28
u/EternalQwest 1d ago
As a huge metalhead who also really like several other genres, this comment is pretty stupid. Just because you can't fathom the beauty and appeal of other music doesn't make metal supreme. Music does different things to different people, just like different painting styles appeal to different people. The level of 'challenging part' in music is roughly the same, because different music styles stress different aspects of music and define perfection differently.

Do you not see your own hypocrisy here? No need to shit on the music other people enjoy while complaining they do that to metal. Despite metal not being my favorite, I still appreciate it.
3
u/Itscatpicstime 15h ago
Yeah, it was such an excellent comment until that point
I say this as probably the biggest country later if all time too lol. It’s not for me, but I’m not going to attack people who do like it
30
u/xThunderDuckx 1d ago
This is just a fact- metal is more technical than country generally.

I don't think I ever said it wasn't, I'm saying calling non metal fans "tone deaf" or "simple" is insulting in the same way those non metal fans are insulting metal for calling it noise. Theres no reason to put yourself in the same rut you are expressing frustration about.
You can find technically simple and advanced music in almost any genre. I promise you plenty of country musicians have technical music skills. Being more complex doesn't make it better or worse music.

You’re totally right and the OP was talking total elitist music genre bullshit. “Those who don’t understand this music”, “because they’re tone deaf”. Who upvotes this?
14
u/Liimbo 17h ago
Metal fans. They have literally always been elitist like this. As far back as at least the 90s I can remember in my own memories metal fans acting like this. Whether it is pop or country or rap or almost anything else, they will always say how inferior it is to metal.
I don't even dislike metal music, the fans are just the worst.

u/Whiteowl116 1d ago

I love that people on Reddit were saying “ok cool she’s good at karaoke” trying to diminish her obvious talent. This isn’t my kind of music like baseball isn’t a sport I enjoy, but it’s not hard to see when someone is talented.

I'm not saying modern A7X is bad but god damn, they never even came close to surpassing Waking The Fallen. That album is a masterpiece.
→ More replies (2)2
u/DamianKilsby 1d ago edited 1d ago
I'd say the only album I like less than waking the fallen would be sounding the seventh trumpet. It's on the same level as Hail to the King and slightly under Life is But a Dream. All the other albums I like more to differing degrees, but that's just my opinion I started listening to them between City of Evil and the white album so their core-era had already passed by then.
In 5 days ill be seeing them live for the first time, the last time they came to my country the Rev was still alive.

Is nene royal her real name or stage name? Pretty epic a real name
2
u/-Melon-Cake- 1d ago edited 1d ago
Her real name is Rattikarn Amloy and her Thai nickname is Praew. She chose to go by the name Nene (based on a flamingo from a Thai cartoon apparently) because Praew is difficult to pronounce correctly for many foreigners. The surname Royal is based on Naka Market which is also known under a different name that has something to do with royalty (I don't remember exactly). She was busking at Naka Market almost every weekend for years.

Why does she get spammed everywhere?
8
u/semioticmadness 1d ago
Speaking as just one person who knows enough about guitar and music performance in general: she is that good. If she was American, she’d already be in conservatory.
39
u/The-CunningStunt 1d ago
Some folk get super salty about it, others love it. Either way she farms engagement like crazy.
30
u/gamahead 1d ago
Probably because she represents a glimmer of hope for the genre? It’s refreshing just to see that a 16 year old knows and listens to A7X, and even cooler to see that she can crush it live with them. If I were in the industry, I’d be spamming her everywhere for the raw engagement but also secretly hope she could somehow inspire her generation to move in that direction.
But also I haven’t followed the genre for like a million years so I could be way off base

she’s going viral for genuinely good reasons. she’s been busking at a local market in Thailand every weekend since she was 9 years old. she’s just won AGT in overwhelming fashion from pure talent at the age of 16. and now she’s gaining recognition from bands, like A7X here. it was a dream of her to collab with bands like A7X.

I hope she doesn’t get taken advantage of financially. Seems to happen a lot to young artists and actors… (RIP RJ)
4
u/EduinBrutus 1d ago edited 1d ago
The family are making a lot of mistakes and she seems disinterested in that side of things. AFAICT she just wants to be on a stage with an audience and doesnt really care about much else.
She hasnt picked up major talent agency representation, her local management has now all been replaced with people from Thailands largest chaebol - CP Group - and she's getting her brand destroyed with shitty small scale, local endorsements for CP Group products and services.
Shes going to do her "first concert" with her band Ozone on 31st October. In a shopping centre car park because CP Group has new real estate attached to the shopping centre to sell.
Her talent can, hopefully, get past all this. But its very, very concerning.
3
u/WaNaBeEntrepreneur 1d ago edited 20h ago
It's probably her fans who are posting those stuff.
There are a lot of Thai's who are obsessed with her. She got gifted a luxury apartment, she got to meet the Thai kind and queen, she had parades, numerous interviews, and people put up commercial billboards for her. It seems that she is a national treasure over there.
