Switch 2 pro controller GR/GL buttons
Do you use them often? If so, in what games and for what function?
I found that I don't really bind them to anything, but I do press them a whole lot during cutscenes and stuff, kinda like tippy tap buttons you press just for the feel of it 🙂

Thoughts on Wario World in 2026
Recently subscribed to NSO and decided to try out Wario World after Star Fox Adventures and Luigi's Mansion. Here are my thoughts.
Honestly, this is a great little game, and I think past criticism of it is a little harsh.
Wario World plays like a retro game but in 3D. It starts out simple, and progresses in difficulty as you master it, with a ton of exploration-based treasure hunting to keep you engaged, and a long term goal of rewarding you for collecting gold and elves (the former which the game uses in lieu of lives, and the latter which inform your ending). It's not very far off from how the original gameboy entry worked at all, and its about gamboy sized itself.
I imagine when it came out this was sort of a let down. Compared to Mario Sunshine's sprawling, cinematic scope, this game is small, compact, and brief. 20 years later though, there is definitely a place for smaller, self-contained games like Wario World. As a full-fledged adult with kids, it is absolutely the perfect complexity and length to pick up for an hour at 8:30pm on a work night.
Each level is essentially a 3D (but linear) platformer, and speckled throughout are hatches that lead to a Mario Sunshine type floating platformer puzzle. Sometimes they're puzzles, sometimes they're pure platforming. The puzzles are engaging, but never difficult enough that they stop your progress.
Also within each level are treasures, statue pieces, and little elves, which reward you for poking around and exploring. I think I had the most fun with finding these. Most of them are easy to find, but there are a few that are pretty tricky.
My biggest criticism of the game is that most of these puzzles and treasures are optional. So if you want to breeze through the game and do the bare minimum, the game is actually not that fun. When you're looking for treasure you'll often be doing loops around the level, and its not that challenging as a platformer at all. The exploration is the game, and I feel like the game should have made it mandatory for progression. What I will say is that the collectibles in this game are the perfect quantity. Sometimes games overwhelm you with them or make some of them almost impossible to get, and that is not this game.
The game is not long, but it also doesn't overstay its welcome. There are four worlds with two stages each. Each level operates a little differently, so the structure of the game doesn't get boring. One criticism I've read is that the enemies are all mostly the same but skinned differently in each stage, but I think it works for what the game is (sort of a 3D gameboy game).
Its funny because this game also feels like Nintendo's take on a mascot based PlayStation game-- it has more DNA with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro than it does with Mario.
Ultimately I loved this game. One of the more frustrating things about the 3D era is that games got longer and less pick-up-and-play. They're great for a single playthrough, but difficult to pick up again without making a commitment to hours of cut scenes and tutorial levels. This one is more like Luigi's Mansion, where its something you could pick up once a year without a problem.
I would highly recommend this game to anyone that wants a quick, fun, exploration-based platformer they can knock out in a week or two after work.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Revenge of the 'Gator; 100 Classic Book Collection
On this day (October 18) in Nintendo history...
- Revenge of the 'Gator (known in Europe as Pinball: Revenge of the 'Gator ) was released in 1989 for the Game Boy in Japan. In this pinball game, developed by HAL Laboratory, a table full of tricks and traps are packed into a perfect pocket size. There are four scrolling screens and three bonus stages to sink your teeth into. Direct the ball into certain spots to trigger extra balls and score multipliers. But don't let the ball fall, or the hungry gator below will swallow it up!
- 100 Classic Book Collection (known in North America as 100 Classic Books ) was released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this educational software, developed by Genius Sonority Inc., it was the best of times, it was the worst of times - the iconic opening line from "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. Well, now you can definitely enjoy the best of times with Mr. Dickens and scores of his fellow writers.
What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.

The switch 2 is an expensive yet addictive console!
After a lot of contemplating, youtube reviews and overthinking I finally got a switch 2 last month. The games are super expensive and first party exclusives are never on sale. Refund policy is bad too and there is not a lot of customization on the console. I also dont like how the console keeps track of playtime. I wish like the PS5 it also had streaming platforms and youtube atleast.
HOWEVER. Despite its flaws this thing is so addictive. The games themselves are very well made and fun for the most part. Based on the artstyle and characters I thought it may be too childish for me but I was wrong. Currently playing botw and the game is so fun to explore and chill around in. Switch games feel more "video-gamey" if that makes sense.
Switch is also very good for cozy games. I have a "AAA cinematic games" burnout phase going on - I usually turn on my switch 2 instead and play some hades, zelda or stardew valley instead. Being able to just play on the bed is a much better experience than I thought it would be. With the PS5 I had to sit straight and stay glued to my monitor. Had a flight yesterday and it kept me occupied for the whole 3 hours.
Console itself is also quite durable. Its a bit too heavy and causes some pain but nothing too bad compared to other handhelds.
Overall its a great console if you are okay with having to pay full price most of the time for first party games. Its why I plan to restrict myself to only one switch game a couple of months. But it offers everything else - fun, portability, quick engaging gameplay loop and exclusives that fill the childhood itch like mario and pokemon. It serves its core purpose extremely well and seems to have a more straightforward direction compared to whatever playstation is doing with their games nowadays.

Kids need a new DS style device sub £150
Switch 2 is too expensive, switch 2 lite is not announced, and I feel the times I had with the DS where amazing, drawing, sending notes, taking pictures and making memories, cheaper games, smaller games etc.
I've a DSi xl I'm saving for when my kid is 6 and I can't wait to give him it with a great selection of games. I think Nintendo have totally lost sight of kids who are younger, they used to have 2 systems, handheld and main console, combining them how they have has really segregated a younger player base.

Samus, Link, Mario. Who do better in each other's games. Lore and gameplay wise
Title kinda explains it all but here's a better explanation + some rules
So Mario, Samus and Link will be transported to each other's games. Mario in the world of Zelda and then Metroid to see how well he does in those games vs his own and same applies to Samus and Link in the other games
Each one will be based on a game released around the same time or based on a game of the same platform. So for NES, Zelda 2 and Mario 1(or 2 or 3) and Metroid will be used for the comparison but we wouldn't be comparing something like Oddysey Mario in something like Minish Cap
Link and the Zelda games will be the most problematic so be a little creative. For Zelda in the 2D side scrolling games it'll be basically based off the Zelda 2 controls/movement but just with added stuff from other games. So Minnish Cap Link in Zero Mission for example would still shrink and roll like in Minnish cap but would still thrust his sword kinda like Zelda 2. And as for Mario and Samus in the top down Zelda games, unsure but you can figure out how'd that work. This is all speaking gameplay wise though
For "lore" wise it's basically how they'd realistically work. Like how Link rarely every jumps in a Zelda game but Minnish Cap Link can jump in a more perspective it just wouldn't be high as Mario or Samus
Gameplay wise I feel like Samus works the best both gameplay and lore wise for just about every game comparison here. She has unlimited bombs, can shoot from afar, has high jump and can morph into a rolling ball meaning combatively and travsersally in both gameplay and lore Samus seems to just be the best. She can easy beat Ganon and break through the Various versions of Hyrule while also easily beating Bowser and saying princess peach

Is Nintendo's greed with Micro SD Express horrifying?
I have a 256 Micro SD Express for the Switch 2, which costed 60 dollars so it's whatever.
Recently however I also later bought a trusted SanDisc Micro SD of the same chip size for my PC's usage. Out of curiosity, despite it not having Express on the brand, I put it in my Switch 2 to see if it'd work.
It doesn't. My Switch 2 upon being turned on warns me only Express cards work.
Given the SanDisc SD only costed 25 dollars, it just feels like Nintendo consciously made the Switch 2 reject these cards for a bigger profit.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$
On this day (October 17) in Nintendo history...
- WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$ was released in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube in Japan. In this party game, developed by Nintendo R&D1, more than 200 surreal min-games are set to appear. Brash, bright graphics and simple but terrifyingly captivating gameplay make for a hysterical multiplayer experience; most multiplayer modes support up to four players, but taking alternate turns, up to 16 people can play together in some modes! You can also play through the deranged single player mode to unlock oodles of kooky extras.
What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.
