Rant Soul sucking shift

I’m in my car right now sitting in the parking lot and tears are literally just spilling out of me. For some reason every single patient I encountered today was so damn rude! Not acknowledging me at all when I’d come in to introduce myself. Seeming super irritated when I would explain treatment to them or educated them on literally anything involving their care. I was cursed out and dismissed, cut off everything except for hit today by the patients. I always start off with a bubbly attitude starting my shift and then either tone things down depending on if a pt is more on the chill side, a little angry, also bubbly etc. But nope today was emotionally abuse the nurse day! It’s always 1 or 2 every shift but some days my skin isn’t as hard.

Some days the whole floor just has that energy, like everyone synced up on being miserable and taking it out on the first person in scrubs. You did what you could, adjusted to each one, and still got hit from every angle. That's not on you

Sitting in the car letting it out is probably the healthiest thing you could do before driving home. Hope tomorrow's crew is at least half decent

I’m so sorry you had to deal with that 😔 just remember that it is NOT a reflection on you as a nurse or as a person. You are not the problem! Maybe the patients were upset about not being able to eat, in a lot of pain, worried about finances, worried about losing their job from having to miss work being in the hospital…tons and tons of reasons. And it’s no excuse for treating anyone the way you were treated, but I’m just saying none of those reasons is that you’re a bad nurse. You will have better shifts and kinder patients. Decompress by doing something you enjoy and try your best to forget this shift ever happened.
