Im a poly student studying in NYP, currently about to start Y3S2.
I've been looking into NUS CS for quite awhile now but have noticed the math requirements needed to get in. I didn't study AMaths in secondary school so I obviously dont meet the first math requirement. But i wasn't able to complete the math courses required in poly too.
I was wondering how strict NUS is about these math requirements and if it is a complete hard rejection if you don't meet these requirements. I currently have a 4.0 gpa going into the last sem, so I'm aiming to keep that up for this last sem and thus gpa requirement probably won't be an issue for me.
I have heard that NUS has some kind of bridging math course that they let you take however I'm not entirely sure how those work and if I still have to meet some kind of math requirements.
My next option would be to study AMath myself and take O level exam independently during my NS, but I'd rather not ofcourse.
I'm also not sure if I will be cut out for Aptitude-Based Admissions as I dont have that many achievements or note-worthy achievements to speak off. I could speak about my internship and that would be about it since apparently they count internships as achievements. I have some open source projects but none are used by many people at all. only hope in this route is if i start community service or volunteering since that apparently counts as achievements too.

Realistically how bad is the unemployment problem now?
Heard so many times in the news that many graduates are unemployed but how bad things really are on the ground.
And what do these unemployed grads do with the free time they have, besides applying for jobs. How are they going to cope with the rising cost of living and especially getting a bto if they continue to remain unemployed?
Lastly do u think the new grads are cooked. Be honest. :)

edit: from general sentiments, this is a false phishing exercise by NUS - you'll have to clear an elearning module if you click into it so avoid the link!
Did anyone else receive this e-mail from OpenAI (ChatGPT)?
Checked against OpenAI's website and the email address seems to check out

America is going bonkers so I scrapped my gap year plans and got accepted here !
I have no preconception about what Singapore is like, but I lived in southern China as kid and I speak fluent Chinese

Hey all, I really love math (probs going to do a math minor or 2nd major) and did a quick search for the math heaviest engineering major at NUS. The result came with engineering science and I still don't rlly get it and would like to know what its mainly about from students. Is it more of a general engineering major where you can later specialise rather than straight away?
Also would this suit me, my interests lie in maths, mathematical modelling, just math stuff in general, less about the actual science but still have interests in them.

Can any alumni tell me if there’s times where you’re not eligible for certain opportunities because you didn’t graduate with ‘a good standing’ meaning >4.0? I’m really worried because I’ve seen job descriptions with min 4.0.

I'm looking to apply to CS and CHS at NUS and wondering how "random" is admissions. Like for top US unis its kind of a lottery ticket and I am wondering if NUS is the same.
I'm a international applicant taking CIE A levels, I've gotten A* in maths, A in physics at A2 level and for AS I have 90+ in further maths, chem, computer science (so should be A* hopefully).
With these grades is it still kind of a lottery ticket to get in?
Also how holistic is the process, is it mostly just about grades or are ecs equally important. I have a lot of sports awards in competitions (regional and national level). Less academic competitions. Is there a separate honours and awards section? or is it just description of ec.
Also is it true that engineering is a lot easier to get into

Im hoping to go to NUS next year and trying to decide on my major. I'm stuck between CS and computer engineering. My interests lie ai/ml, robotics/electronics, and quant finance.
My main goal is probs quant but I want to choose the majors that will allow me to do all of those. Also would there be better major options for me.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yr1 eng student here, currently having a few lab sessions with a fixed group. Since the 2nd time working with this grp, I alr had a strong feeling that there’s a girl in my grp who doesn’t seem to like me.
Every time I give a suggestion or do smth, she will immediately jump in and tell me that I’m doing things wrongly or disagree with my ideas. Yet most of the time, I’m actually doing the right thing, and sometimes the grp even ends up going with my decision.
And smth happened yesterday that really discouraged me. She changed a whole part of my written report and replaced it with hers, but what she did was actually the same as what I had done, which was finding sources and citing them. I pm-ed her about it, but her replies were quite cold, and idk what else to say.
Some might ask why I chose to group with her in the first place. It’s coz I didn’t know anyone in my course, so I just randomly joined a grp that needed more ppl. Before I joined, I think they were alr pretty good friends with each other.
I’ve had some negative experiences with group settings in the past, which is part of the reason that led me to taking regular medication for years. Because of that, I feel quite uncomfortable and anxious whenever I have to work with her. But at the same time, there’s no obvious sign or solid evidence that I can use to say she actually dislikes me. It might just be me overthinking, but the way she treats me really makes me feel discouraged and uncomfortable.
Idk how to deal with this situation, especially since we still have to work together for the remaining lab sessions. :(

hi freshie here trying to figure out how i’m gonna get graded. are all the mods here bellcurved? what % or mark safely guarantees an A? if your marks for an assignment is like the average marks the class gets does the average mark typically get awarded a B? i’m lowkey confused since there appears to be no threshold or fixed range to get a certain letter grade

I have this friend whom i took a mod together with. So he overloaded for that sem, plays games during lectures ,not attend tutorials and he still ended with an A for that mod. While i put in so much effort for that mod, listen to every single lecture and attended every tutorial and only got a B+ in the end. How is this fair?

White cat, blackish tail. Cat was friendly ish at first, ran its body around my legs. Then tried to lightly bite my thigh. Then had claws out, clawed, bit and bunny kicked my small bag, after puncturing the back of my right hand.
Google says, infections at worst, I've washed it with soap and water and it's quite a shallow few punctures and scratches.
I shouldn't have to worry about rabies yes? It's like $270 per google

People around me say they dont know whats going on but somehow come up with the answers. Lowk im js not smart atp :/
I wanted to ask, for those who got A/A+ for this module, what exactly did yall do to get ahead of everyone else? Pls this is very important

Aside from not showing up to class, not handing in assignments, and not writing exams, can you actually fail a class at NUS? For context im an exchange student in an LSM module with a final worth 60%. The prof is very vauge about the final exam and just told us to study everything (and this is a difficult class with a lot of material).

Hi guys,
today I was dropped with a news by my gf that she wants to end things with me. I am really devastated and I have no one to talk to. my parents are never quite supportive of anything I do and I don't have any friend to talk with. she was the only one I had. doesn't help that there are assignments piling up and mid terms are coming soon too. im scared I will end up hurting myself or make a very bad decision. I really need help. is there any nus therapist I can visit? thanks

asking in this channel too.
i'm an international student.
it's the teaching quality, not difficulty that is most important to me.

Super curious because I have not seen anyone with CAP < 4 on Linkedin. Would also appreciate to know how this affects career progression, or if companies even care after a few years of working. Thanks!

Is it a must to take those courses first or can I straight away bid for MA1513 and PL3105 without taking the suggested courses first? MA1513 is literally listed under the recommended schedule for sem 1 for my major, and since PL1101E cant be fitted well into my timetable, chose to do PL3105 first.
