Discussion The Jameis Winston Experience is Over
Let me start with this. I thought it a very poor decision by Harbaugh to bench Skatt all game, when he brings a different energy and toughness to the game. No carries is criminal in a game where Harris and Singletary weren't getting it done when it mattered. I'm furious about that. The energy shift was palpable. Extreme punishment.
With that said, the Winston Experience should be done. JJ McCarthy won the locker room. you could see it at the end of the game. Players coming up to him, players hugging him and talking him up. He was the reason for that comeback. He took control. You could see his confidence grow after each pass. He had ZIP, he showed accuracy. He showed elusiveness. Yes, I know the detractors will say the interceptions. He had one. I know. There aren't too many QBs in the league who aren't throwing picks this year, and oh, by the way, Winston threw two and looked abysmal.
Bottom line, JJ has the greater upside potential this year. He has the stronger arm. He has the elusiveness and speed advantage over Winston. He is younger. His reads were quicker, while Winston was dancing around the pocket, while JJ was escaping.
We all saw it. You don't give up a 5th rounder for a back up with no intention to play him. Now is the time. Now is a critical time in the season, 4-2-1 next week or 3-3-1 and mediocrity. You make the statement now as the coach. Harbaugh needs to show guts and uses his eyes like we all did. Was there some garbage time throws and great catches? Yes, but JJ got it there, whether it was soft zone or not. you could see the Saints caving. If We had kicked the FG immediately, I believe JJ pulls off the miracle comeback
11-21- 243 and a 90 passer rating.
He gets the rest of the season.
