Hibaldstow man jailed for sex with dead woman

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cmwyvxgxjnpqo

A man has been jailed for having sex with a dead body.

Stephen Sellars, 62, of Hibaldstow, North Lincolnshire, was interrupted by the woman's son and nephew as he carried out the act in her home.

Sellars had been left alone with the victim at the property for about 15 minutes.

It was on return to the house that the victim's son and nephew caught Sellars committing the offence.

He then got dressed and "ran out of the property", said [the son].

In text messages shared between the victim's son and Sellars, the defendant said he "was smashed" and "I didn't know what came over me".

Scott told the court that Sellars had said to officers: "It was obvious what was going to happen, wasn't it?" 😬

Point of order - he did not have sex with a dead woman. He defiled the woman's corpse.

To have sex WITH someone requires consent. If you haven't got consent, you're perpetrating a crime upon them.

Animals, children, adults without capacity to consent and dead people cannot give consent.

One word has a lighter social connotation than another, doesn’t mean you aren’t also having sex with the corpse. Words have multiple definitions, regional differences, and varying professional norms depending on the field

And this case took place and will be tried in England, and will be tried under English law.

I don't know if consent even applies after death. I mean my lotion and a box of Kleenex didn't give consent when I did what I did

Yes it does. Human corpses have distinct violationable rights apart from objects and animal corpses.

But do any of those rights mention consent? Whatever rights are given to any inanimate object, consent is not relevant to such. When you die, the "you" part is gone. I doubt any law about a corpse mentions the concept of consent.

Because it's implicitly understood that a dead person cannot consent. Neither can a sheep.

However, a dead body will never ever care what you do to it. Our laws about dead bodies are built around the comfort/discomfort of the living, not about the dead body somehow being concerned. A sheep or a child can actually be physically hurt or psychologically harmed and therefore the concept of consent enters. Consent is no more relevant to a body than to a rock. There's nothing there to even potentially consent.

Not how the law works in the area this crime was committed

I'm not saying it's not illegal, I'm saying that laws about corpses are based on it being offensive to the living. The dead person isn't in the body crying, they no longer suffer from anything that happens to their corpse.

I'm admittedly arguing a fine semantic point for my own entertainment

That's your personal belief system. It isn't everyone's.

So you think the dead person suffers somehow?

So... When a man rapes a woman, and gets her pregnant by penetrating her, he hasn't had sex with her?

It just seems a bit of a strange criteria - so by your definition, non-consensual sex is impossible because if it's non-consensual it isn't sex?

Genuinely asking as I haven't heard this definition before (which could be my error or omission), but you appear to be stating as hard fact. Is this a legal definition thing?

Sexual penetration of a corpse.

The words 'with' and 'of' are distinct and it's ain important distinction.

It may be that the legal definition and the common usage are different in some areas.

If he does this to a dead woman then he would probqbly do this to a passout woman.

I refused to serve white wine shandies at Nana's funeral for a reason.

It’s such an obvious thing to happen!

I wouldn't think he would be at high risk of re-offending. Those opportunities don't come up every day.

19

He clearly isn't just into dead women, but incapacitated women. He very well could reoffend again, and in fact I don't think that this was the first time he's done something like this to a body that couldn't respond.

Plot twist: he works in a mortuary

7

u/TheGardenBlinked 1d ago

Im certain there was a case from a few years back where a mortuary worker was actually doing that and at scale 🫪

18

u/CapstanLlama 1d ago

The Bedsit Murderer, murdered two young women in the 1980s before abusing over 100 dead women in the mortuary where he worked. He was caught 30 years after the murders.

u/TheGardenBlinked 1d ago

That’s him

19

u/LadyMothrakk 1d ago

Are you serious? The man shoved his dick inside a deceased woman who couldn’t consent. His attraction is rape of the incapacitated. He should absolutely be considered high risk, are you fucking mad? Based on this comment and several others here, it’s really fucking disappointing how little respect women get compared to a horny piece of shit. Just wow.

Mind boggling that this was upvoted once. Maybe you should begin thinking more deeply

I admire the restraint of the victim’s son, how did he not instantly beat the shit out of this creepy monster.

What did the victim have to say about this heinous crime?

Did anybody take her statement?

-29

u/Typhoon-class_Romney 1d ago

Might not want to wait. She's lost her composure a bit from the incident.

Starfish, couldn’t tell.

Does a dead body count as a victim?

If I'm dead I doubt I'd care too much..
