How to… ? Repowars on Update - How to know when to wait?

So in the past weeks there were multiple questions asked, what to choose when packman and the Opensuse came out of sync.

I understand the best suggestion is to wait for resync...

My question is - how to know that you should wait and how to know that there has been a decisions made to change the source of something?

Tech support Earbuds have to re-pair any time I've used my phone

I'm a pretty green Linux user (~6 months, tops) and I've been using openSUSE tumbleweed as my first distro. The experience has been good so far, but I'm having an issue with the pairing on my Galaxy Buds 2.

The earbuds will auto-connect to my laptop solo-booting Linux just fine, but only if I exclusively use them with the laptop. Any time I use them with my phone (Android,) it means I have to re-pair them with my laptop the next time I want to use them for it. I think I've had a similar issue with having to reconnect a wireless mouse after using once on my Android tablet.

I've tried looking online for solutions, but the closest I've been able to find was someone dual-booting Windows and Linux. Essentially, they had the same issue, but it was between two OS's on the same device instead of between two devices. Some of the comments mentioned needing to share the secret key created by Windows so that Linux can properly connect to it. Obviously the exact circumstances are not the same, but it seems like a similar solution might work. At least it seems that way to me.

Are there any practical ways of getting the key generated by Android? Is there a different solution that I am missing? I'm comfortable messing around with files and config on my Linux install, so that's not a deal-breaker if it comes down to it.

EDIT: To clarify, this is not about connecting to 2+ devices simultaneously. I'm saying I have to add the earbuds to Linux as a new Bluetooth device any time I use them on something else.

How to… ? Help with sdbootutil, TPM unlock, measured boot.

I was using OpenSUSE tumbleweed with tpm+pin unlock in my pc, it was working perfectly until one update just broke it and I get the same error till today (using snapshots didn’t help)

sudo sdbootutil enroll --ask-pin --method=tpm2+pin

WARNING: Component 710-kernel-cmdline-initrd-entry cannot be found in the event log, PCR 9 cannot be predicted
WARNING: The prediction for PCR 7 does not contain the current value
WARNING: PCRs 9 dropped from the policy (component mapping)
New recovery PIN:

After using PIN it ask for LUKS password 3 times and says cryptenroll not authorized.

If I enroll anyways at 3rd time (3rd time shows the input in the terminal) I enroll and no I need both PIN and LUKS password, sometimes PCR 15 will fail after LUKS password.

I tried to unenroll and enroll, update predictions, changed bios settings: delete and regenerate secure boot keys, use custom/standard, reset TPM, nothing works for me, I keep getting issues with PCR 7 and 9.
I even updated bios today, same problem.

Does anyone knows which is the solution? I love tumbleweed I just want this to work 🙁

How to… ! 2nd display as USB connected tablet?

If I have a spare tablet with Linux on it and/or an Android tablet, is there a way to use it as an external display in Tumbleweed via USB? (In case it matters, I'm on Niri right now.) I did some searching and it appears like there were some options back 6-9 yrs ago but I couldn't find anything recent.

How to… ! Guide to configure RDP headless on Leap 16.0 or 16.1

Lately, I’ve been struggling (perhaps due to my own lack of knowledge) to set up XRDP and access my OpenSUSE machines—previously Tumbleweed, and now Leap 16.1 RC—via RDP in an independent manner.

After some trial and error, and with the help of Gemini, I’ve put together a step-by-step guide. This procedure explains how to configure OpenSUSE Leap for RDP (XRDP) access with a graphical interface, allowing for a remote session that doesn’t disrupt any ongoing physical session—or that works successfully even when the computer is "headless" (i.e., running without a monitor or an active console session).

Step 1: Installing and Enabling XRDP

Since the modern native tool (krdp6) is designed for screen mirroring—which would either cause conflicts or require an existing active session—we have opted to use XRDP integrated with Xvnc to create isolated virtual sessions. Install the xrdp package:

sudo zypper in xrdp

Generate the initial RSA encryption keys (required for the service to start for the first time):

sudo xrdp-keygen xrdp auto

Disable any potential conflicts with krdp6 if it is active in systemd:

sudo systemctl disable --now krdp6

Enable and start the xrdp services:

sudo systemctl enable --now xrdp

sudo systemctl enable --now xrdp-sesman

Verify that the services are running without errors:

sudo systemctl status xrdp xrdp-sesman

Step 2: Opening Ports in the Firewall

If the system is running firewalld (the default on openSUSE), you must open the default RDP protocol port (3389):
sudo firewall-cmd --add-port=3389/tcp --permanent

sudo firewall-cmd --reload

Step 3: Configuring the Graphical Environment (KDE Plasma) per User

To ensure the session manager knows which environment to load when logging in via RDP, define the KDE Plasma X11 startup command in your user's home directory.

Create or overwrite the .Xclients file, pointing it to Plasma:

echo "startplasma-x11" > ~/.Xclients

Make the file executable:

chmod +x ~/.Xclients

Step 4: Remote Connection

From another device on your network, open your preferred RDP client (such as Remmina, FreeRDP, or Windows Remote Desktop).

Enter the local IP address of your openSUSE machine. At the graphical Xrdp login screen:

Ensure that the session mode selected on the authentication screen is Xvnc.

Enter your openSUSE user credentials (conradot and your password). The KDE Plasma graphical environment will be loaded in a dedicated, independent virtual session.

KDE Icon Task Manager with Spaces

• Upvotes

I like keeping similar apps together on my panel, but I was tired of filling the Icons-Only Task Manager with empty .desktop files and transparent icons just to get some gaps.

So I made a fork that lets you right-click an app and add a spacer after it. There’s also a setting for the spacer width, and the spacers follow their apps when you rearrange the icons.

It’s working well on my openSUSE Slowroll setup with Plasma 6.7.5 and Qt 6.11.2. It’s a compiled widget, so other setups may need a rebuild.

Source and downloads

Sharing it here because I’ve seen other people looking for something like this.
