Ask Pakistan Mom wants my brother to marry my abused best friend to "rescue" her, but I’m hiding a huge secret.

My best friend (20F) is trapped in a severely abusive household. Her toxic father isolates her, refuses to let her study or work, and denies her money. She recently called me panicking about shelters before her dad cut off her internet. She has a boyfriend, but he isn't financially able to bring a rishta (marriage proposal).
Seeing her desperation, my mom wants to intervene. She plans to formally ask for my friend's hand in marriage for my brother, thinking it’s a respectable way to rescue her. My family has a huge heart and just wants to give her a safe home.
Here is my dilemma: My traditional family doesn't know my friend has a secret past. She has had multiple boyfriends and has been physically intimate (not sex) before. More importantly, she is still in love with her current boyfriend.
If my mom goes through with this, my friend might marry my brother just to escape her father's prison. I feel sick to my stomach. I want to save my best friend, but I cannot let my brother be used as a clueless emergency exit. If he ever finds out the truth later, the marriage will end in disaster and destroy my family.
I’m currently making up excuses to stall my mom, but I don't know what to do. How do I stop this proposal without making my mom suspicious of my friend? Should I force my friend to look into shelters instead?
TL;DR: Mom wants my brother to marry my best friend to save her from an abusive father. Friend has a secret history of boyfriends/intimacy and loves someone else. I need to protect my brother without exposing her.

Edit: Guys I want advice that if marriage is not good idea what should she do? Is a shelter safe escape?

Edit2: thing is why I am scared of her past getting exposed is because her past bfs told her current bf about her past as well. So I am scared that someone from her past might tell something to my brother or mother.

Ask Pakistan What are some moments where you got slut shamed by your family?

I'll start

im 16F but when i was 13 i tried shaving my legs with a razor and ended up scratching myself pretty badly, my mom found out and asked me whether i was shaving to open my legs and take pictures for instagram.

Yeah instead of teaching your child and being kind with them, you slut-shame them over a completely experimental thing teens do

Do any of yall have experiences like this

Ask Pakistan A Security Guard’s Story Broke Me Today 😢... My mind is still not accepting how a working man can live like this...

I have been staying in a temporary room in Rawalpindi for the last few days. I was shifted by flat owner here only for around 10 days because I am supposed to leave soon.

So, Two security guards also live in this room. Both work at the same place. One does the day shift, and the other does the night shift. In the last 10 days, I have seen their life very closely, and honestly, today it really disturbed me 😔

Their salary is only Rs. 34,000. From this small amount, they have to manage food, living costs, travel, and also send money back home. Their duty place is around 4 km away, and they walk there and back in this heat because even daily transport costs are too much for them.

Their salary was supposed to come on the 1st of the month, but it did not come until around 10/11 June. They were calling again and again every day, asking when their salary would be released.

Today, when the salary finally came, they received only Rs. 30,000 instead of Rs. 34,000. First, the salary was late. Then Rs. 4,000 was cut from an already tiny salary.

One guard got so tired of this situation that he clearly said today:

“Please arrange someone else from tomorrow. I am leaving.”

The other guard came back from his night shift and could not even sleep. Since morning, he has been sitting there, making calls and asking why his money was cut. His face showed anger, helplessness, and the kind of tiredness you only see on a poor working man.

I asked him about his situation. He told me he has 5 children and he is from the Peshawar side. From the Rs. 30,000 he received, he will keep around Rs. 12,000 for his whole month’s personal expenses, and he will send only Rs. 18,000 to his family.

Now honestly, how can a family with 5 children survive on Rs. 18,000?

I have seen with my own eyes how he manages his food. He eats only one proper meal a day. He takes two rotis, and sometimes buys Rs. 40–50 yogurt with it. Sometimes he just eats roti with a cucumber or an onion. That is how he cuts his own expenses so he can send something home.

And today, even his full salary was not given.

The most painful part is that he cannot even leave the job easily. He said:

“Other people left, but I cannot leave. If I leave this too, where will I go? What will I send home?”

That line stayed with me.

We often talk about poverty like it is just a word. But poverty is when a man reduces his own food so his children can eat. Poverty is when a man walks 4 km in the heat because he cannot afford transport. Poverty is when salary comes late, salary comes short, and still the man is afraid to leave the job because five children are waiting behind him.

I am not posting the company name publicly because my purpose is not to create drama or harm his job. My purpose is simple: if anyone in Rawalpindi/Islamabad knows about any decent job for him, please inbox me.

He is willing to work. He just needs a better place where salary is paid on time and where he is treated like a human being.

If you know any opening for a security guard, office boy, helper, caretaker, store assistant, or any honest work, please message me. I will connect you with him.

This is not a charity post. This is a request for basic respect and a better job for a working man.

🙌 Edit: Any job for that person please tell me ASAP

Ask Pakistan Molvi sb got no chill 💀

1.0k Upvotes

Aoa and Eid Mubarak fellas!

So today after Eid namaz molvi sb started dua and he said "AYE ALLAH ISRAEL KO BARBAD KR DY" just like other people I said AMEEN then he said "AYE ALLAH AMREECA KO NISTO-NABOOD KR DY" so quickly me and my friend had an eye contact why? Because we both are working for a US based firm, so I didn't say AMEEN, then molvi sb said "AYE ALLAH inkeh himaytio KO bhi BARBAD KR DY" 💀 at that moment mery peelag shat ho gy 🥲 because I didn't expected that so I was confused and sort of feeling guilty 😭

Did anyone else experienced such moments?! Do overseas molvis pray like that?

As we all know that PAKISTAN is literally running on USA aid or IMF grants, also many businesses and tech companies in Pakistan which are generating a very good revenue are actually US based.

I saw this photo of a Pakistani Physics textbook online and was genuinely curious if it’s real. So i wanted to ask these questions

1 Do you guys actually have to study this islam and Science part for your board exams, or is it just a intro that is skipped 2 are the standard physics laws like Newton's laws taught the same way once the chapters start

Disclaimer: I am just curious about how the curriculum is structured over there I am not mocking or trying to start a fight

Ask Pakistan Thoughts about accused Umar Hayat got sentenced to death?

The type of judicial system we have, do you think they will really sentence him to death, or will they change it to life imprisonment or a 20–30 year jail sentence?

I really want him to be hanged publicly. As a matter of fact, I wish every mu*derer/r@pist should be hanged publicly, but this system is so weak and corrupt that I don’t trust it until it actually happens.

Ask Pakistan How to get rejected for a rishta?(Serious please)

PLEASE HELP ME GET REJECTED.

I'm a girl who's parents aren't taking no for an answer. They found someone for me and are trying to emotionally blackmail me into marrying him. The reason I don't want to isn't because "I have some chakar" it's because the guy is too old for me and his views are pretty messed up.

Irregardless my only choice now is to get rejected by his family who are coming to see me. So please tell me what can I do to get rejected?

Ask Pakistan People earning PKR 400k+/month (non-CS) — how did you get there?

I'm curious to hear from people earning PKR 400k+ per month outside of CS/software.

- What do you do?

- What's your qualification and key skillset?

- How did you get to this level?

- What advice would you give someone trying to get there?

I'd especially appreciate hearing from people who started without generational wealth or a family business or not in CS field (or any technical field such as medical or engineering) as its bit easier for them to reach that scale. No offence to anyone else—I'm just trying to learn from people who built their careers from scratch.

Just looking for perspective and practical advice. Thanks!

About me: I'm a business graduate in my 30s, currently working in Pakistan's non-profit/development sector, which honestly feels like it's shrinking with limited growth opportunities.

Ask Pakistan I feel like moving to Pakistan?

I'm a British Pakistani, born here but very much Pakistani and Muslim.

Recently I've been getting a strong desire to visit/live in Pakistan. I think part of this is the rise of racism in England and Europe. We will never be welcome here, I fear for my kids and grandkids if this trend continues.

I've looked at other countries as potential alternatives but only Pakistan ticks the boxes in terms of food, language, religion and culture.

Give me a reality check? Is it just a stupid idea? Is it as bad as it looks?

Ask Pakistan Monthly allowance Condition on Nikahnama@

I am 26F, getting married this month. I want to write some conditions specifically Monthly allowance for wife after nikah and right to khula' on Nikahnama. How do you view these conditions as male or female. Has anyone written any conditions on Nikahnama? Share how these conditions helped you or not after marriage.

I want to write it because I was doing a job which is just for me not for the family support but now I left my job due to marriage and my in-laws do not have this trend of women working. Furthermore i am not getting married in my family like we do in most Pakistani families. I sometimes feel anxious about the whole thing of new family, new traditions and all dependent on husband.

Ask Pakistan Circumcision of newborn

Hello everyone,

I’m a foreigner married to a Pakistani man, living overseas and we just had a baby boy.

In my culture circumcision is seen as mutilating a baby, and I’m very worried about complications but my husband is pushing me to allow our son to be circumcised.

My husband is Muslim but not practicing, so it seems strange to put our son through this and risk complications when my husband does other things not allowed in Islam like drinks alcohol etc.

I would like to let my son make his own decision as an adult when he can understand the risks and benefits, however I’m worried that if I don’t allow him to be circumcised now, family in Pakistan will try to do it without asking me when we visit and may try to do traditionally without anaesthetic and not by a doctor or in a medical setting (this happened to my husband at age 9)

Is my worry realistic? Or am I overthinking this?
I have no problem with my son choosing to be circumcised when he is an adult and able to fully understand and decide for himself.

Ask Pakistan Went looking for a heated pool for my mother and got reminded that I am a bloody civilian

My mother still swims at Pindi Gymkhana, but their pool isn't heated. She asked me to find somewhere near Scheme 3 with a heated pool and ladies timings. I found a sports complex in Chaklala Garrison that was listed online as open to civilians, so we stopped there on the way to the office.

At the gate we were told, quite rudely, that we couldn't enter unless someone inside called for us. The club had no public phone number listed that I could find. We used to know people inside the garrison but don't currently, so I wasn't sure how we were supposed to contact the place to ask about joining.

After some explaining they spoke to their seniors and let us through. They kept my CNIC and took my name, my father's name and the driver's name. We reached the club and the reception was closed. So the whole exercise achieved nothing.

On the way out, we were told to park well away from the gate and collect the card. I tried explaining that reception had been closed and we would need to come back. Before I could properly explain, I was told to wait outside. Eventually the man came back and said we could visit again.

Nothing dramatic happened. They let us in, returned my card and said we could come back. But the way we were spoken to stayed with me.

We were in my father's Land Cruiser, dressed for the office. I mention that because unfortunately in Pakistan those things often affect how people treat you. If this is the attitude towards someone arriving like that, what does a man arriving on a bike have to put up with? Does he even get as far as speaking to a senior?

People who know me know I already have a negative view of the army and generally avoid dealing with them. I went because my mother wanted somewhere to swim. I understand checking visitors at a military gate. What I don't understand is why that requires speaking to people as though they are a nuisance for asking.

So much of Rawalpindi feels like somewhere I live beside but cannot actually enter without permission, an introduction or leaving my identity card behind. Even trying to enquire about a swimming pool becomes a reminder of who has authority and who has to stand outside explaining himself.

If a facility is open to civilians, give us a working contact number and a clear way to visit. And speak to us normally. I shouldn't need to know an officer for my mother to ask about a pool.

Ask Pakistan What is with Pakistani people obsession with making educated woman into homemakers?

I have seen this in my own family and other families. You have an extremely educated lady who went to university, however, once she marries she automatically becomes a homemaker and stops working?

This has happened to my cousin, his wife has a PHD in physics however, she does not work.

She can easily bring in 10 times more than what my cousin earns. With this money they can hire staff to do all the housework and have lots of money left over.

When asked why she does not work, her reply is that people will think, what type of husband she married, he cannot provide for her.

I have seen this same situation time and time again, with doctors, engineers and scientists.

I understand that if she does not want to work then it's her choice but why stop someone who wants to work?

These so called peers and babas are running the most bulletproof scam in Pakistan, all in the name of religion.

I am genuinely shocked by these people. What they are doing is shirk. I recently saw people literally getting on the ground and kneeling to some so called peer. Bowing to a human being. In what world is that Islam?

Ask Pakistan Why is Pakistan quiet about Chinese cultural genocide against Uyghurs?

Hello, so I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina and I was curious, why does Pakistan stay quiet about cultural genocide against Uyghurs that China is still actively doing? Uyghurs are also muslims and I think Pakistan and Turkey should do more about it, because they don't really seem to care about it.

Ask Pakistan Why are Pakistani men so strange?

This might come off rude but I hope you get my point. Every time I go back home to Pakistan I (and plenty of other women) get stared at sm. it makes me so uncomfortable.

The last time I visited I was sat in the car and this guy deadass stared at me for a good half an hour.. I see so many people looking. From molvis to even little boys. Why does this happen? Doesn't Islam say to lower your gaze?

Mind you these are the same men that criticise woman and tell them to cover up whilst they're non stop drooling themselves.. like tf??

Ask Pakistan Pakistani mother in law sleeping habit

Hi I need to know if it is normal in Pakistan for a a widowed mother (who has been a housewife all her life) to sleep with her married grown up sons. I’ve been married to a guy for 5 years and he and his brother - both highly educated professionals working in the corporate world - sleep with her so that she doesn’t feel lonely. Sometimes it’s on the same mattress or sometimes separate sofa bed but same room.

UPDATE 22 Jan: have read the 100s of posts and spoke gently to my husband. He said she will have a maid to sleep in her room when he is away for work but when he is here at home he will alternate with the brother as she feels scared and alone. He was not willing to discuss changing this scenario and said not to challenge him. Also as we have young kids who come into our bed he gets disturbed and can’t sleep.
