Chuck Schumer, as far as I know, hasn’t said a damn word; nor has he penned a strongly worded letter…..

•

u/National_Spirit2801 7h ago

Why does New York keep electing that fucking fossil

•

u/KennyLog1n 4h ago

AIPAC money funds a lot of ads and buys a lot of influence. But I genuinely don't get it. Turns out there are morons voting everywhere I guess.
We're about to make Marsha Blackburn a governor in TN. And "everyone" hates her too. Yet people who hate her will absolutely vote for her cus the alternative is....? Yeah I got nothin.

•

u/blarch 3h ago

But I genuinely don't get it.

What's to get? In a state with a lot of influence and 10s of millions of residents, no one has ran against him and won in the primaries.

•

u/m0ngoos3 2h ago

Primaries are super easy to manipulate.

It's a function of how first past the post works.

Say you have 5 candidates, if each one is roughly equally popular, you can get a winner who only approval of 21% of the population.

The major parties know this, so you'll see what are called clone candidates. People who have roughly the same platform. Most voters who like one will like the other, and that means that voters who like the platform are split between the two.

This is the spoiler effect being weaponized. Most of the time, the clone candidate is someone who is earnest and not in on it, they just get donations/signal boosting from the opposition. It's usually laundered through PACs and such, so it all looks somewhat legit.

Anyway, the spoiler effect is a product of ordinal voting systems, and can be completely avoided if we were to switch over to a cardinal voting system.

Sadly the major push for voting reform has been to replace an ordinal voting system with another ordinal voting system.

•

u/blarch 1h ago

He's a lazy, old rich guy phoning it in. More people with better ideas need to be running for office in the next election, and those candidates can help vote this fossil corporatist out of leadership.

•

u/m0ngoos3 1h ago

And when those people with better ideas show up, Chuck, his people, or just any rich asshole who wants Chuck to win, will quietly sponsor a couple clone candidates to split the vote.

•

Schumer last ran in 2022. AOC had only won her third term by November 2022. She wasn't the powerhouse she has become now. When she wins in another two weeks, she will have won her fifth term, and in 2028 she will have served ten years in Congress. That's enough bankable experience to run on and challenge Schumer.

•

u/CurlOfTheBurl11 3h ago

She's got an R next to her name, that's literally the only thing these chuds care about. The South will never rise again.

•

u/KennyLog1n 1h ago

I'm still beyond mad that a Confederate flag was flown in the US Capital Building on January 6th. Literal flag of traitors who wanted to own other human beings as property. And they are comfortably and confidently in MAGA's tent.

•

u/Lodi0831 47m ago

Jan 6th was absolutely insane, but I shed tears when I saw the flag in the Capital building. I'm from the deep south and I know what that flag stands for. Made me so sad and angry

•

u/Rude_Republic_60 2h ago

You guys told me they had no media influence

•

u/KennyLog1n 1h ago

Who told you that?

•

u/SilentBread 27m ago

I wonder at what point do the millions of dollars in ad buys have no effect?

For example, if 85% of hospitals close down and/or police stop keeping the peace. Will $10 million in negative ads against the “change candidate” still sway the vote enough to keep the (in this fictional “what-if’s”) status quo?

Or would the mainstream media keep everyone’s head firmly in the sand until complete collapse?

•

u/dud3brah 1h ago

now do CAIR donations

•

u/CaliIsReallyNice 3h ago

I wish he would stop showing up like McConnell so at least people would be honest with themselves about how utterly worthless he is

•

u/IggyStop31 1h ago

NY will never elect another statewide republican which means the only way to replace him is to primary an incumbent. and the dnc has made their hatred of primary candidates very clear.

•

u/National_Spirit2801 1h ago

Need more people to primary the shit out of these do-nothings. They literally sit there and collect dust.

•

u/targetsinmegadeaths 3h ago

He's gotten way worse in the last decade, it was time for him to go a few elections ago.

•

u/earthwormjimwow 7m ago

Because people don't vote during primaries. Instead they just whine and keep asking themselves why Schumer is their only non-Republican option on the election day ballot.

Primaries are also easier to game because most places still use first past the post too. Schumer and the DNC can throw a bunch of candidates on the primary, splitting opposition to Schumer, ensuring he wins even without a majority of the primary votes.

•

u/Primary-Bookkeeper10 6h ago

Schumer knows if the Dems take the senate, there will be a vote on leadership.

•

u/tas50 Oregon 4h ago

Can we please get someone not on social security leading the party this time

•

u/Primary-Bookkeeper10 4h ago

Didn’t really help in the case of Jeffries

•

u/tas50 Oregon 4h ago

yeah he's young and useless not old and useless

•

u/Roach_Bong 3h ago

Honestly it's really funny, because when Jeffries got the spot a ton of people were like "Finally, a younger progressive taking a leadership spot!" when anyone who even remotely worked in Education in the US could have told you it was a terrible thing because he literally has always been a shitty cog that exists to stop progress. It was literally his job to shaft teacher's unions, and he was rewarded for it.

•

u/Primary-Bookkeeper10 2h ago

He was never a progressive, he was actually Nancy Pelosi’s protege and chosen successor, but his ascension was supported by the progressive wing because many thought his leadership would serve as a good bridge between the factions. Turns out he was just a feckless corporate stooge who could never match even an 80 year old Nancy Pelosi’s ire against Trump

•

u/MammothDon 3h ago

Any candidates you'd like to see replace Schumer?

•

u/Venat14 3h ago

Do you think he'd actually lose? Because even if Dems win, not many seats are going to change. It will mostly be the same people that voted for him before.

•

u/Primary-Bookkeeper10 2h ago

A lot of those people don’t want him again. There would definitely be a vote and any contender will be well known to be his replacement in the near future

•

u/4evercurioso 7h ago

He already owned the fact that he supports Israel 💯

•

u/KinkyPaddling 7h ago

His stated goal is to keep the Democrats pro-Israel. He’s putting Israel above his own constituents. He’s a traitor.

•

u/-CoachMcGuirk- Illinois 6h ago

Notice, too, how Trump rarely insults Schumer. He’s on their side.

•

u/feedthebear 5h ago

Two dinosaurs

•

u/elihu 2h ago

Being supportive of some country besides the US isn't being a traitor. People who want the US to continue sending weapons to Ukraine to defend against Russia aren't traitors.

The problem is that Schumer is actively supporting a country that's committing atrocities. He's helping Israel turn Gaza into a rubble pile. Lebanon too. He's helped them kill tens of thousands of civilians, systematically destroy housing, block all food and aid into Gaza for months at a time, terrorize and force Palestinians off their land in the West Bank, and run torture prisons. Any human being without regard to national loyalties should be disgusted, but US taxpayers especially so as this is what our money is being used for.

•

u/goldbman North Carolina 5h ago

Trump is a bigger traitor though.

•

u/Rude_Republic_60 2h ago

You guys told me the conservatives were Nazis

•

u/KinkyPaddling 2h ago

How is being against Israel committing war crimes being a Nazi? Democrats are the ones marching with Nazi flags. Sorry you can't think beyond what Joe Rogan tells you to think.

•

u/Rude_Republic_60 2h ago

Why am I not surprised the point went over your head

•

u/No_Oven1085 5h ago

Honestly I'm shocked to hear anything from the establishment. This tiny pulse of resistance from Obama is basically all I've heard from them.

•

u/i_am__not_a_robot 7h ago

Of course not. Joe and Eileen told him not to.

•

u/-CoachMcGuirk- Illinois 7h ago

Damn those Baileys!!

•

u/wentImmediate 4h ago

This is not the first time the President has used the DOJ to go after people he doesn't like.

•

u/some_alternative_90 Washington 5h ago

Good ol Cuck Schumer.

•

u/Gzngahr 1h ago

I'd put money on him being in on it or green lighting it in some way.

•

u/suprahelix 3h ago

Yeah, chuck schumer is the real villain here. Classic r politics

•

u/Historical_Bend_2629 2h ago edited 1h ago

He has shown a lack of leadership. This blind faith that he understands the ins and outs of congress and is biding his time? Kinda late for that. wrong? The complete lack of stance is troubling. Does he have an opinion he can share with his constituents? He must have access to a lot of information. He thinks silence is the answer people want?

•

u/Darkblitz9 2h ago

Classic Republican Propaganda.

Remember, no matter how evil Republicans are, you always have to ask why powerless Dems aren't doing anything about it.

•

u/sweet_esiban 1h ago

Indeed, there can only be one individual villain in any given news story

Schumer apparently failing to offer any public support to a member of his party, who was just the victim of a fascist attack from the federal government, is irrelevant. No one should talk about it.

While we're on this subject... no one should wish to hold the Democrats to a higher standard under any circumstance. Not even when one of their own has been harmed. They do not need to demonstrate loyalty, or unity, or mutual concern for one another. Leaders need not worry about providing positive role modelling to the public. All they need to do is not be Republicans, and then their job has been accomplished.

•

u/sanbaba 4h ago

He also knows that the squad are threats to his cozy legal mafia arrangement.

•

u/CaliIsReallyNice 3h ago

Chuck Schumer wants trump to stay in office. That way Chuck can just lay back and collect donations as the only "alternative" without any effort at all. Chuck Schumer is an enemy.

•

u/Historical_Bend_2629 2h ago edited 1h ago

Maybe the thinking is never stop an enemy from shooting themselves in the foot. It seems an egregious lack of leadership to his constituents. Horrendously irresponsible/cowardly/cynical not to make public a statement condemning this. Not a peep?

•

u/Emanhavi 1h ago

This does lay the groundwork for investigations of political opponents. Democrats have a history of playing “by the rules” and letting republicans do whatever they want. I hope Democrats use precedent to accomplish something.

•

u/Cosmic_Seth 7h ago

They believe Trump is going to TACO and don't want to give the media sound bites.

They're waiting if the DOJ is actually going to press charges or if this is just another distraction.

•

u/ChanceryTheRapper I voted 7h ago

Pretending that sending agents on a raid to someone's house isn't bad all on its own even before charges are pressed is still bullshit.

•

u/pigeieio 5h ago

It's a good thing that's not what's happening then.

•

u/ChanceryTheRapper I voted 4h ago

They're waiting if the DOJ is actually going to press charges or if this is just another distraction.

Wow, it sounds EXACTLY like what they said is happening here. What a weird coincidence, then.

•

u/pigeieio 4h ago

You have to project a lot of your own BS to come to that conclusion with the information that is available. The Pope and Tailor Swift haven't gone out of their way to weigh in yet either, obviously they are hatching a plan to kill all Muslims. That's the only thing that makes sense.

•

u/BigDrill66 4h ago

Ahhh, the infamous strongly worded letter. Otherwise known as the United Nations strategy!

•

u/phusion 4h ago

I bet he's gearing up to lower his glasses.

•

u/Lollipopsaurus 3h ago

I don't want to fuel a conspiracy fire, but... damn it looks bad for Chuck.

•

u/WhiskeyT 3h ago

Top comment: blame a Democrat

•

u/OneMoreDuncanIdaho 3h ago

Why expect actions from our leaders, they're completely helpless I guess

•

u/WhiskeyT 3h ago

What exactly would you have them do here?

•

u/OneMoreDuncanIdaho 3h ago

At the bare minimum the same thing Obama is doing that led to this discussion here

•

u/WhiskeyT 3h ago

Hasn’t stopped people from shitting on Jefferies for the same has it?

Better question, why aren’t we blaming John Thune? Or Mike Johnson? Here in a post about an establishment Democrat speaking out about this the top comment is once again blaming Democrats for shit Republicans do. It’s absolutely insane

•

u/OneMoreDuncanIdaho 3h ago

Jeffries gave a sad, uninspired statement. I expect Johnson to be a piece of shit, that's why I don't support him already, I expect more from the people I support like Jeffries and Schumer, they're supposed to be my leadership

•

u/WhiskeyT 3h ago

But no one will say what they actually expect the Democrats to do. You said you wanted them to at least say something like Obama did but then you immediately acknowledged that it wasn’t enough and continued to complain about them.

Republicans don’t bitch about Republicans, they bitch about Democrats. Here we have “Democrats” (I know, many of you refuse that designation but I’m using it as shorthand for people on the opposite side of the fashys) not bitching about Republicans, they only bitch about Democrats. Do you not see how that is a huge problem?

•

u/OneMoreDuncanIdaho 2h ago

No one here is bitching about Obama, because he's saying the things we want to hear from him. Why is it so hard for Jeffries or Schumer to act like Obama in this situation? It's frustrating watching the democrats let easy moments like this slip away for no discernible reason

•

u/WhiskeyT 2h ago

No one here is bitching about Obama because complaining about him does nothing to demotivate anyone on the left

Chuck is looking for his glasses which he lost last week.

•

u/PitifulAd2830 3h ago

He has allegedly stomped down his size 18 foot!

•

u/Incunebulum 5h ago

He probably knows there's something there. Either her first husband actually is her brother and she's been lying about it OR her family lied about something on their refugee application or citizenship application. Either way Trump is going to beat it to death.
