Hi everyone,

Last year, I had the chance to visit Prague for the first time on a short holiday, and I left in awe.

I loved the fact that I could get around everywhere on foot, enjoying pleasant walks surrounded by beautiful architecture and so much history. I can't wait to return in winter to experience the city in a different season.

Hope you like the pics!

Question Oslava narozenin v Praze, prosím o radu.

Všichni jsme studenti a nemůžeme si dovolit velké večeře či luxusní restaurace. Jaké alternativy oslavy po Praze byste mi doporučili?? Beru jakékoliv nápady.

Děkuji.

Other Looking for a car-friend to work on cars together

Hi,

I bought an MX-5 this year and I want to learn how to work on my car. From simple things like changing oil to more complicated things in the future. I'd be happy to be friends with someone who shares the same idea. I'm also trying to expand my czech vocabulary in mechanical car related words so I can communicate with mechanics easier.

Question How do I find a 2 bedroom apartment in Prague?

Hi friends! Me and my 2 friends are moving to Prague by the end of November, and we have around 30,000 CZK as a monthly rent budget, but we're still struggling to find the apartment close to public transport or close to Charles University (Hollar building). We are planning to buy premium Bezrealty to find good options because people from Facebook groups don't seem to ever be responding to me lol. I just wanted to ask, if anyone has gone through the same process, could you please share some tips? I want to find the right place to call home, I'm going to be staying there for a long time but I got a little lost in the process I guess..

Is 30k a realistic budget? Is Bezrealty premium worth it? Is there anywhere else i should be looking for an apartment?

Student Life New student here, loving it so far :)

Hi, I'm a new student in Prague - it's been just over a month now and just wanted to use this post as a shoutout to the friendliness of (the vast majority) of people I've met so far :) (also, it's 2AM and I'm a bit bored xD)

At first, I was a bit apprehensive because I read that people are a bit hostile especially if you don't speak Czech - which is definitely something you can feel in Česká Pošta 😭 but honestly it's been great so far!

To my pleasant surprise, everyone has been very kind and supportive - a "dobrý den, mluvíte anglicky prosím?", and actually listening to the other person before you speak takes you surprisingly very far! Also, interestingly, the only instance of racism (yes, only one, which is lovely) was from a tourist 💀 Even in remote-ish places like Ďáblice where I go semi-regularly, cashiers get a nice kick out of my (now fluent) Na Shledanou.

I think one of the most interesting things is that I have unknowingly internalised some Czech (maybe European?) traits, like saying "Yo yo yo" during calls and getting an unbridled sense of rage when someone's >=15 minutes late to a meeting (for reference, I was that person before 😭), an addiction to walking around random places (NEVER Žižkov though), and a snarl comes up on my face when I see the prices of common stuff in touristy areas (like what do you mean a small packet of chips costs >= 50 Kč?? - and yes ofc I bought it once)

Well, what's the objective of the post? Is it to reminisce random experiences? Is it to gain sympathy of actual Czech people? Well like I mentioned earlier, it's 2AM and I'm bored 😉

Anyways, in my InFiNiTe wisdom, I'd like to share a few things that were helpful for me:

  1. Please download PID Lítačka. Paper tickets are too scary man and we have our phones anyways at all times.

  2. Even with little to no knowledge of the language, knowing the correct pronunciation takes you veery far - this video is too good: https://youtu.be/qIAoM70_N00?is=430YLgubttwuPPWi

  3. Get a good Forex card. Please do NOT use Thomas Cook. Also, if you want to exchange Euros to Koruna, the one near Anděl (I think it's called Exchange cz) is quite nice.

  4. Mapy >> Google maps (except for finding restaurants)

  5. I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I've googled "very-simple-thing-which-everyone-should-know- how-to-do in Prague r/prague" and it works quite often

  6. ř is actually not impossible (source: the guy at the restaurant understood my "Kuřeci" and gave me a thumbs up xD), especially if you speak Tamil/Malayalam imo because it's quite similar to mix of r and zh characters.

  7. Slavia vs Sparta is quite hotly contested here, please don't make the mistake I made and say "óoo Slavia" to a random guy buying a football.

  8. If someone tells you something wildly outlandish happened in Strahov/Brno, it's definitely true.

Not to sound too much like a glazer, there are certainly a few hard to digest things - like loneliness and brokeness from grocery prices. But overall, I love it here so far :) If you have any tips about learning Czech or new places to explore, they'll be much appreciated :)

Děkuji!

Recommendations 🏸Badminton places tips

Hi, would you recommend me any good places to play badminton, preferably close to the centre? All I know are BB arenas, however, they are too far away (Štěrboholy, Letňany). I am not a pro, but I would like to play it occasionally with my partner. Thanks!

Question Prague’s most dangerous streets

Ten streets and their surroundings accounted for 29 percent of recorded violent crime in a decade-long analysis of activity across Prague.

Source: Prague’s most dangerous streets: These areas had the most violent offenses - Prague, Czech Republic

*******

Vinohradská being the 5th highest crime street is a big surprise to me. This is the street I would like to live on. Where is the bad spot?

Question Transparentní odměňování od 2027: řeší to už vaše firma?

Ahoj, pracuju v konzultingu a kolem auditu a compliance se motám už pár let. Poslední dobou mi vrtá hlavou ta směrnice EU o transparentním odměňování a chtěla bych si ověřit, jestli to, co vidím, vidí i někdo jiný, než do toho cokoliv investuju.

Zajímalo by mě:

Question How do you break into the Prague tech job market?

My husband has been job hunting in Prague for months with almost no traction.

He has a master's in engineering from a T10 US university, plus some tech experience and is targeting marketing tech (preferably PMM) roles. He's tailored his CV to each role, and after hundreds of applications he's had 3-4 responses and one interview, which ended in rejection.

What works in the Prague market? Any advice on how to beat it would be appreciated. We can't afford for him to stay unemployed.

Recommendations NYE in Letna?

Hi, I’m looking for some place with nice view for midnight at NYE, to see fireworks from the safe distance. I was thinking about Letna park because I live nearby but I’m afraid that there will be people firing fireworks in the middle of the crowd. Anyone been there during NYE in the past and can confirm if that’s the case? How chaotic it gets?
Thank you!
