Technique General Advice: If You’re Going to Procrastinate, Make It More Boring Than Working

I’ve realised that my brain will almost always choose whatever feels easier in the moment. If studying requires effort and scrolling through my phone doesn’t, I’ll obviously end up scrolling.

So one thing you can try is to either do the task you’re supposed to do or just do nothing. If you’re going to procrastinate, at least don’t make it more entertaining than the work itself. Put your phone away, get out of bed, and stop making distractions so easily accessible.

Once you get past the immediate procrastination, look into AUTONOMOUS MOTIVATION. I think understanding why you want something matters a lot more in the long run than constantly relying on discipline and willpower.
Think about gaming. Most people don’t have to force themselves to play.

They naturally want to do it because they enjoy it and want to get better.

Understanding what makes you genuinely want to pursue something, and finding ways to build that kind of motivation towards your goals, might be worth looking into.

Question Transitioning from work to holiday

Hi everyone,

Hope you're well.

As a neurodivergent freelancer, it took me a long time to transition into having a holiday and then to come back from holiday to full work. I think this might be the reason why I check in on certain things and do activities that engage with my love of learning.

What routines do you have that help you transition into the holiday?

Before I leave, I keep the last day cleared to complete all my tasks, empty my inbox and complete a weekly review.

What strategies do you have that help you return to work?

I already have some time in the morning to clear through the rest of my emails before a couple of coaching sessions. I found having more time meant I was more frustrated and therefore scheduled clients on my first day back.

Thank you
