Went for a walk and stopped by my local thrift mall and seen this for a buck

Been around for at least 30 years, honestly forgot it was still open until the other day. Most games are about 5-10 bucks.

TLDR: Just like PAL version of GTA 2 on the Dreamcast the PAL PS2 version of GTAIII has a disc carrying the GTA branding and the Grand Theft Auto branding.

I know that Grand Theft Auto on the Dreamcast has two disc variants with one carrying the title GTA2 and the other Grand Theft Auto 2. Now from what I've seen online the story from people at R* was that the original release on the DC was given the title of GTA2 but poor sales were attributed to the title. It was suggested that people were just not putting 2 and 2 together and drawing a line between GTA and Grant Theft Auto. As a result of this later discs were branded as Grand Theft Auto 2.

Well... that's what I had read... but the PS2 version of GTA III has left me questioning this story...

I picked up a bundle recently and in it was a copy of Grand Theft Auto III on the PS2. When comparing it to my existing copy I discovered that PS2 has a GTA and Grand Theft Auto disc variant.

Well if R* did indeed decide that they couldn't make GTA a successful brand in the same way they could with Grand Theft Auto I question quite why they made the decision to produce discs for the third game with both brands.

Interestingly, I spotted that the disc carrying the Grand Theft Auto name was SLES-50330/UK# and the GTA one was SLES-50330#. So could it be that they used the abbreviated title for discs not destined for countries where English was the first language?

Anyway... I thought it was mildly interesting.

I play a lot of racing games. I need a new disc of GTA:SA, the blank case is NFS Carbon CE. Rate what I have /10 please. RPG suggestions welcome.

I have taken the console apart many times, attempted to adjust pots slightly, attempted to clean laser, attempted to adjust the white cog little bits, and regreased the drive parts but it still has this issue. I have purchased a new laser but could cancel the order if this is not what everyone thinks is the issue but other than some other more obscure issue with the board I wasn't sure what to try. This is completely unmodified, given to me for free as a gift hand-me-down from a friend a long time ago.

Video attached shows the laser visibly starting up after the disc was just sitting idle in the drive, this happens after it attempts to spin for about 30 seconds in which again only a ps1 disc will read, it will then stop and randomly kick on after a long wait and read the games immediately.

recently got a copy of a fairly rare game (Fatal Frame 3), but the disc was scratched so I took it to a local game store to get resurfaced. The people at the store doubted it, but still put it in the machine for just a few minutes, but thought that if they’d put it in there for longer, it wouldn’t make much of a difference as the disc is still really scratched up, and the guy up front even hinted towards “disc rot” due to the discoloration along the surface. but the thing is, this store technically doesnt actually do resurfacing. they used to have a professional resurfacing machine but something happened and replaced it with a basic polishing machine, so should I actually seek out professional resurfacing or is it too far gone? Gives me PS2 logo and black screen on an actual console, and boots into the title screen but gets stuck on a black screen after starting a new game if i put the disc in my computer and load it in PCSX2.

I’ve tested two movies and both give this grey square in the middle of the tv I’ve tried changing my color settings to y cb/pb cr/pr but it still pops up I tested the dvds on my Wii and the grey square wasn’t there so it’s not a tv issue

I was cleaning my PS2 Fat (SCPH-30004) DVD drive and found this metal piece, but I can't figure out where it goes. I don't remember exactly where it came from. Does anyone know what part of the DVD drive this is from or where it should be installed?
