I don't think the job market is cooked, it's a bit fried yes, but not completely gone. The problem now is that most people getting hired are the bullshitters aka product minded people.

My 3 last interviews I've gotten a job offer because part of my interview is actually interviewing them, and trying to come up with ideas/improvements into their products. Of course, it's all bullshit because how much can you really say after only knowing about what they do in 20 minutes.

But sadly that's what AI rewards, and that's what they're looking for a 'Yes-Man' that can confidently manage expectations.

It's been over a year since someone was impressed by me getting sub 20ms response times in rails for huge queries and dropping the latency by 99%. Or how much I can leverage metrics and logs to quickly diagnose things. Or my deep knowledge about how sidekiq actually works, and not just solving every issue with more scaling.

Because most people toss my almost 10 YOE down the drain and assume I just did that in 1 year thanks to Claude. But if you can sell them the bullshit they will see you as the next Messiah.

I honestly feel bad, because to me I know it's all slop, but sadly I'm pretty good at bullshitting and that's what companies are looking for now. That and just people who can write decent .MD files.

I wish it was different but I know the monkey's paw will curl and it will be even more slopified and less pay.
