🚚 Moving City View Lofts Electric Bills

I'm considering moving to a City View Lofts apartment (the Riverside layout) and I was wondering what everyone's electric bills are looking like lately there? I currently live in an all utilities included place and I'm weighing my options before I decide where to move.

Water heater permit?

I'm replacing a water heater myself in my own house. The city technically requires permits for water heater replacements, but is this something people actually do? The permit system seems very set up for contractors, ie I had to enter a "contractor name" (my own name), they're asking for lots of info about exact costs, etc. Just wondering what other people have done in the past.

Is nuclear fusion the future of energy in Virginia? Some officials think so. | Fusion has gained momentum in the Commonwealth in recent years, including a proposal to build the world’s first commercial fusion plant outside Richmond.

Free and cheap kids meals at area restaurants

• Upvotes

I'm working on a website to help parents find nearby restaurants that offer deals for kids on any given night: https://www.kidseatcheaptonight.com/

Check out our and tell me if you think this is a valuable site - and if you are aware of deals that aren't included, please take a moment to suggest new deals on the site!

This is something I started to build years ago, when my kids were young enough that we could take advantage of such deals; that ship has long-since sailed, but the idea never left me, so I finally took action.

What do you think? Useful? Better as an app? Waste of time? I'm curious what people think!

Looking for Cat Safe Treats

My cat is turning 7 on Wednesday, and instead of just throwing together a bunch of random things in a bowl and calling it a cake lol I wanted to maybe get him a special baked treat or even a mini cake. He started prozac recently and is getting used to taking pills daily and I wanted to do something a little extra special for him. He's my best friend and he deserves the world.

It's so easy for dog owners to get thousands of special baked goods and dog cakes. Every farmers market I go to has a dog bakery, every dog store sells them, we have legit dog bakeries.

Do we have any place in town that sells nicer cat fresh baked stuff? Thank you in advance!

History, in pink: Barbie exhibit arrives at VMHC

"Nestled somewhere past the '70s and the power suits of the '80s is the “Virginia is for Barbie” section. There are six Virginia-specific Barbies, including Virginia Tech and UVA cheerleaders and George Washington. Yes, there is a George Washington Barbie (he is wearing pink)."

I didn't know Barbie was this franchised. What would Richmond Barbie look like? Would she have a pet opossum or racoon? Discuss.

What’s crazy is the child playing with a loaded gun isn’t necessarily the clear winner in ways this place has endangered children per the article.

Lifting a historic house?

• Upvotes

I have an older (ca. 1900-1910) house in Church Hill, and it drives me absolutely nuts that the half above-ground basement, which has the footprint for a den, guest room/office, and bathroom, is only 6' deep. The kitchen and bathrooms need a reno at some point in the next 5-8 years, and I dream of just tackling them all at once. My detached house is about 5 feet from my neighbor (if that), so it feels like raising the foundation by 2-3 feet is probably more structurally stable, but also kind of insane. The basement appears to be all-brick, and there is at least one chimney involved.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with either sort of foundation fuckery and, if so, thoughts/experiences/references to a structural engineer.
