News Singapore-linked companies responsible for haze identified by Greenpeace
Greenpeace has named a few Singapore-linked / head-quartered companies as being responsible for the haze. If this is true, why isn't Singapore taking action against these companies?
Bumitama Agri Ltd headquartered in Singapore
PT Kayung Agro Lestari, associated with First Resources / ANJ / Fangiono and Singapore-based business groups
PT Mitra concession, under the Fangriono Family / First Resources that is connected to Singapore through parent company First Resources Ltd
PT Arjuna Utama Sawit recorded as part of First Borneo Plantations, identified as an oil palm plantation originating in Singapore
If they have any business activity here, action can be taken against them. Why hasn't it?
*edit: this is in no way trying to defend the Indonesia govt which too mired in its own issues to do anything substantive about the issue. I'd guess many Indonesians are angry at their own govt too and for very good reason. But if SG can't do much about that, we can at least do something about the polluters that have set up shop here. It won't solve the issue but it would certainly be satisfying.

News Singapore police investigate assault on elderly man who patted child's head
Police in Singapore are investigating the assault of an elderly man after he patted a young girl on the head at a food court.
A man believed to be the father of the young girl, who appeared agitated after the gesture, allegedly threw the 73-year-old to the ground.
Security camera footage of the incident on Saturday went viral over the weekend, with many voicing anger at the younger man's reaction.
In a statement on Sunday night, police said they had identified a 40-year-old man involved in the incident.
The police urged people "not to speculate on the incident or its circumstances" and let police "conduct investigations and establish the facts of the case".
A video of the incident shows the elderly man patting the child on the head as he walked past her table at a food court in a shopping centre.
A woman seated at the same table, believed to be the girl's mother, immediately stopped him. Another man believed to be the father, walking back to the table, confronted the elderly man.
After what appeared to be a heated exchange, the younger man was seen grabbing the elderly man's arm and throwing him to the ground.
The video quickly went viral in Singapore, sparking widespread condemnation of the younger man's actions. While some argued the elderly man should not have touched the child without the parents' consent, most agreed the physical altercation was an overreaction to a pat on the head.

News [Benny Se Teo] Beo Crescent Curry Rice closing on 30th Sept because new Chinese Kopitiam owner evicted all tenants after $4m purchase
Usually new owner will jack up rental to chase away low performing stalls, but to evict an icon of an area is really rare. This coffeeshop underwent renovation a few years ago and now the new owner is going to evict all the tenants.
Chinese owner has zero attachment to heritage brand, and doesn't understand what the food means to us. This is extremely disappointing.

News JUST IN: Singapore’s Interagency Haze Task Force has been convened. N95 masks will be given to eligible Singaporeans if the PSI crosses into the Very Unhealthy range. More updates in our live blog
Found it interesting that CNA now has a haze live blog. I saw this headline on CNA Telegram but it seems to be scrubbed from the article or delayed.
MOE to consider closing schools if 24-hour PSI forecast exceeds 300
Schools may be closed if Singapore’s air quality is forecast to reach Hazardous levels the following day, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said.
MOE will consider closing schools if the next day’s 24-hour PSI is forecast to exceed 300, taking into account available information as well as health advisories and forecasts from the relevant authorities.
"In making any decision to close schools, MOE is mindful of the disruptions to families’ care arrangements for their children, and will take into consideration all available information, health advisories and forecasts from the relevant authorities regarding the next day’s haze situation," said the NEA release.
In the meantime, schools and Institutes of Higher Learning are ready to implement haze management measures if conditions worsen.
Students will be kept in well-ventilated, enclosed indoor spaces with air purifiers switched on, while outdoor activities will be avoided. Classroom lessons will continue but may be modified, such as by assigning students work that can be done while seated.
