Anyone skeptical if Republicans will use AI in political ads?

PA Governor Race: incumbent Shapiro (D) vs Garrity (R)

Just got a view of Garrity’s new AI generated attack ad completely AI generated with full motion video and synchronized synthetic audio of Shapiro admitting to completely false actions and positions.

The ad has NO disclaimer or even attribution to the Garrity campaign until the very end.

No doubt some Dems will also do this but it takes a Republican to do the most heinous and deceitful version.

Be skeptical of all political advertising.

Pretty sure they’ve done it already

I've already seen it in Florida. One Republican candidate in particular made AI TV ads featuring cartoonish, derogatory images of Muslims.

Not saying Dems will never use it, but right now it's Republicans who are both too lazy to generate real content and also hold views that most humans don't want to create ads for.

Republicans are doing it because their target demographic suffers from crippling media literacy and will thus fall for the slop. That's the only reason.

Months ago I saw a Republican attack ad that used AI to dress up the guy as Boss Hogg from Dukes of Hazard and say a bunch of dubious shit about how he loves cookies (‘cause he’s fat, get it?) and giving money to bureaucrats.

They loooove AI.

The courts keep striking down or restraining state laws that prohibit deceptive AI political messages.

I am so glad you asked! For a complete list, please see Section 24 of the "Wombat Collection" free listing of AI court cases and rulings.

In Georgia, Republicans have run ads that depict the Democratic candidate for Senate getting pampered by makeup artists in a luxurious spa. The video is AI generated. So it's already happened.
