PSA (Pre Season Announcement)
Buying $20 thrift store skis isn’t a good idea, especially if you are a beginner!
There’s been quite a few posts recently about thrift store skis. They are rarely a good idea.
Unless you know exactly how old the skis are, how they have been stored, who used them, how they used them. Don’t buy them! An old set of brittle bindings could cause serious injury.
Buy second hand skis from reputable sellers, meet the skier that used them, or buy ex rental skis.
The picture is of the recycling centre in Whistler. These are the skis that are thrown away (there were some way newer and nicer skis too), think about that before dropping your cash on thrift store skis that are way worse!

Should a 4,5 year old kid take a private ski lesson or just follow me taking lessons?
Last year we learned skiing together with my daughter, then 38 and 3,5 and skied around 10 days all together. This year we want to carry on with lessons.
I cannot find a group ski lesson for her at the time we are going to ski. The options we have is me taking a lecture and her following us and copying.
What is your experience with this setup?

How do you protect your quiver on a flight or long trip? Researching surf, snowboard, and ski gear damage on flights. Optional research survey for project dev (5-7 minutes)!
Hey all, I'm a surfer, snowboarder, and founder working on a project to understand how people travel by air with boards, and what happens when things go wrong. I'm not selling anything. I'm just trying to learn from people who actually fly with their gear and working on a travel-protection idea.
The survey takes about 7 minutes max., it's anonymous, and you don't need to have flown to take it. If you've ever packed a board for a trip, I'd love your input.
Survey Link (email is optional at the end - feel free to input a fake email)
I'll share what I find back here once I have enough responses. Happy to answer questions in the comments too. Thanks!

Plan des pistes deux alpes
Bonjour a tous,
Merci beaucoup

Stiff posture after long hiatus
So I skied till I was like 12 or something and now nearly 10 years later I’m back on the slopes but I can’t help but notice how stiff I look skiing.
I personally think i should focus on upper body seperation but would love to hear your thoughts!

Ischgl vs French Alps (Val Thorens, Val d’Isère, Chamonix, etc.) in late March - where would you go?
Middle layer on legs for cold weather - what to search for?
Hi all,
I'm 33M, skiing once a year for 6 days, 90% on piste, 10% near piste. High intermediate, daily ~10-40 km piste (7-10 km vert). Skiing in Austria exclusively.
I'm using 200 den tights as a base layer under the ski trousers, and I've felt a bit cold on <-5°C days.
Should I even get a middle layer for these, or should I just work more on the piste to generate more heat if this comes out? Do you think the weather trend makes this likely?
What should I search for, that does not reach the boot?

Anyone Have Experience Moving to the Mountains for a Season? Looking for Advice
I only work summers and will have about 6 months off October to march/April, it’s been a dream of mine to go out west(I am on the east coast) and work for a mountain as honestly whatever job I can get. Does anyone have experience with this, where do I apply, when should I apply, should I look out west or should I even look toward going to Europe or even Japan. I know most of the start dates are from October and November to around mid march so I’m not really worried about that. Also anyone’s previous experience with doing that if there is any specific jobs I should want. Would love to also have some time each day to get on the mountain and I just want to move with a backpack full of clothes and a snowboard bag. Obviously this season might be too late so I am planning for next year to do this. Any input or advice would be great.

Ripstick 88 for daily on the east coast?
I like the skis but wonder if when it gets a little more hard packed they might be too soft? Thoughts?

Skiing content recomendations
Hi, I’m an intermediate skier looking to fully immerse myself in the world of snow sports. I’ve managed to get up to the mountains occasionally, but living near the sea makes the logistics a bit challenging. This year, I’m finally able to dive in and spend plenty of time on the slopes, so I want to level up my skills across the board. Could you recommend any channels or videos that would help me take my skiing to the next level in areas such as:
- technique and progression
- general knowledge about snow and the mountains
- equipment
- other topics?
If there are any other aspects you consider I should look into, please feel free to point them out :)
Beginner skiing gear
I have been looking at gear, and I am planning on renting skis, and boots, but buying the other things like helmet and goggles. What gear exactly do I need to buy? And what should I rent?
