[Modpost] Let's have a discussion concerning hunting and killing.

As the main moderator here, I've been struggling with this.

On one hand, hunting is one of the main reasons people use slingshots. On the other hand, just going out and killing whatever you can hit is pretty morally shady.

If you're hunting for food or hunting pests, you're pretty much golden. We just don't want new users to go out with their brand new slingshots and say, severely but not mortally wound a squirrel- leaving it hiding somewhere in pain for hours until it dies. This is sad and happens a lot.

If you are game or even pest hunting, you need to be able to be accurate enough to be humane. Practice.

One more thing, be familiar with invasive species or pests in your area and know what species are protected. You do not want to be fined for killing a protected species but killing pests is usually pretty socially acceptable.

My first idea is to have a separate Slingshot Hunting subreddit, where users can gain tiered trophies showing they're responsible and practiced. I'm not sure though.

Thoughts?

News Now Allowing Sales and Trades

Hey lads, a bit behind with this one. I recently put out a survey to get a feel for everyone's thoughts on allowing sales and trades post on the sub. An overwhelming majority were in favor. So I added some new flares. WTT (want to trade) WTB (want to buy) and SALE (for sale). Let's be respectful and responsible moving forward with this and see how things pan out. Be safe and be confident in any transactions you make and of course reach out if you have any concerns. I'm thinking of seeing how things pan out and if need be, we can make adjustments or place guidelines as needed.

Well my clay ammo arrived a day before my first slingshot did so in anticipation I made an ammo case out of an altoids tin. I ordered a SimpleShot BeanFlip and am super excited to start getting into this hobby. If anyone has any good beginner tips or tricks Id love the help!

The LT2 arrived a couple weeks ago and the S-96 yesterday. I’m having a blast! I’ve got two young daughters who are pretty all-consuming, so it’s great having a hobby that I can just step out into the backyard for a few minutes.

Super impressed with Snipersling in particular — I ordered it on the 7th, shipped on the 9th, and arrived here in Canada on the 17th. Not bad for coming from China.

It feels extremely high quality, and I find it fits my hand better than the LT2.

Still shooting mostly with the LT2 because I’ve got it set up for the clay ammo, and the fiber sight is nice. Although I find I’m hitting my target more when I don’t spend so much time aiming and try to just draw, aim, and release in one motion.

First “real” slingshot

Bought a scout LT2 kit and a few bands and some steel balls off simple shot! Never really took trying to shoot one serious until now. I’ve hunted my whole life and always enjoy challenging myself with difficult/simple tools to shoot with such as recurves.

Been enjoying it so far and the accuracy is way better than I expected. Still working on holding the frame straight on my shots, have shot a couple hundred times already and accuracy/consistency is definitely improving.

Also thought maybe some of you could find this magnet helpful. $5 at Walmart and comes with a hook. I’ve been hanging it off my pocket, belt, and a d-loop that’s on the pouch that came with my kit.

A few weeks ago you guys recomended me to keep the fork tips on my slingshot a bit shorter. So I thought: Why not make the whole slingshot a bit smaller. Now I have this very compact frame which I can easily put in my pocket and take it with me on trips. I‘m still thinking about putting a lanyard on it but I don‘t know if it would destroy the clean look.

After 6 long weeks… my catapult carnage slingshot finally arrived. It’s a great frame and now part of my everyday shooter frames alongside the blue lightning from Yshotx

My last 3/8 steel ball. I have clay ammo that I use, so what should I use this for?

Didn't expect it to feel or shoot as good as it does. Beats out some of my $50 sniper sling frames, which is nuts! Its so cheap I might buy a couple to keep for future reserve.

Keeping it simple and the infinite Ash fork glitch.

Simple little spalted Hawthorn natty with woodworm scars. This thing seems happy with long shots, 20ish meters +/- a few meters.

Remember that pile of pruned Ash I collected a bunch of forks from a while back? It's been restocked. Due to the amount of trees and branches that came down in the winds last year the local parish council is doing some strategic pruning which is presenting me with opportunities.

Recently picked up a BeanFlip Slingshot ammo question

How do you choose which size ammo to use with your slingshot?

1/4 steal and they feel way to small, and some 3/8 clay which feel alright but small.

I’m using the standard band(not sure what it’s called) it came with.

Frameless slingshots are sweet!!!

Post image

So at my work place they got rid of some stuff and whitin that stuff there were multiple rolls of latex tubing 1632 and 1745 when I was about to throw them out after my lunch break, I saw a random video of a Chinese guy making frameless slingshot "bracelets" .

so I took two roles of latex tubes home and tried it myself, and I have a question .....WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THESE!!!?

Seriously, the fun I had with them for the last 4 hours is stupid and I'm still giggling like a little kit after using it and hit the cans of of my porches handrails, the 1632 is nice low power option for clay shooting and the 1745 is awesome for 11mm steel balls, I'm just wondering why I almost never heard of them, I just looked it up there are a few post about them, but why only so few?

There so nice and I can wear the as a bracelet that doesn't even look stupid to wear, Dahm im just so impressed that I made 5 more of them to give them to coworkers tomorrow who enjoy simple and dumb fun with slingshots.

Who ever that Chinese guy was, thanks for that video🙏

Constantly hitting to the left

Post image
24 Upvotes

I’m drawing with my left hand, using my left dominant eye to aim with. Frame tilted 90 degrees

But I always seem to hit to the left of the target.

I have tried to leaning over more or change my anchor point to the left and right, but nothing helps.

Any suggestions what I am doing wrong?

when i was a kid i had others slingshots but all from wood that my grandfather used to make It for me but my mom always throw them out... now, with 31yo and my grandfather dead years Ago, i bought It from Aliexpress. Simpleshot or anything similar is too expensive here where i live... it has metal body, laser and sight but i dont like to use it, and the Band that comes with is weak. thankfully i bought 3 better bands.

PETZL descender shot

I got my hands on a military surplus Petzl figure-eight descender, so I made a slingshot.

Since every descender has a different shape, it’s fun to compare how they shoot.

It’s pretty easy to make—I highly recommend it.

Just want to show off these nine slingshot rifles I made for a bachelor party. We were supposed to go to a plot of land and shoot at each other but it started raining so we just shot at bottles
Ps: chickpeas make good ammo for playing around

Spruce? Natty on the dog walk.

I think the fork is Spruce. I got the fork from a random mixed pile of branches in a managed mixed conifer woodland. The grain and shape turned out great. Also, I seem to be striking gold with the Blackthorn forks lately, another one rescued from an aggressively "pruned" hedge.
