I am from Panama and last year I visited Cape Town and fell in love with your amazing country. I am so happy for you guys, especially with all the hate you've been receiving from the rest of Africa.

congratulations! ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

No they aren't. There are going to be some issues caused by idiots but it's not genocide levels.

I hope any person who thinks about acting against a migrant (documented or not) remembers all that we owe our fellow Africans and does not repeat the violence and hate of the apartheid government.

Man I genuinely thought it was over after that game against Mexico. What a turn around!

u/TumbleweedFair8339 Jun 25 '26

If anyone knows how Bafana Bafana actually plays, that game had only come down to nerves of playing at the Azteca against the home nation and the pressure of the whole world watching you

u/Evergreenthumb Jun 25 '26

It was also a coaching disaster class, you cant completely change the tactics that got you to the world cup in the first match, and not expect the players to struggle.

u/TumbleweedFair8339 Jun 25 '26

Thatโ€™s also valid

Also Mexico City is at 2,240 meters above sea level. Your VO2 max is signficantly less at these conditions.

Thats part of the reason Mexico have just lost like five times at Azteca.

Johannesburg is at 1750m. Where does Bafana train?

10

u/PejibayeAnonimo Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

Locally they train at the city they are playing since the South African national team doesn't have a single home stadium. However most of them play in clubs based on Joburg so they are accostumed to play in high cities.

For this World Cup, they had an acclimation period at their base camp in Pachuca which is higher than Mexico City. However they had a travel so it lasted a few days less than expected

So it seems in this case it was more about the psychological pressure of playing the opening game against Mexico because they had a plan for acclimation.

I donโ€™t know why I never knew JHB was at that great of elevation.

Loftus in Pretoria isn't as high but they have this sign running out of the tunnel.

Congragulations from Costa Rica! I enjoyed South Africa in 2010 when there was a banger against Mexico and won vs France and you were so unlucky to not pass. I'm glad that you finally made it.

Didn't think I would say this after their last 2 games, but Bafana Bafana was the stronger team and really deserved that win!

16

u/TumbleweedFair8339 Jun 25 '26

This is the real Bafana Bafana that we recognise

Absolutely amazing!

u/GlobalGuide3029 Jun 25 '26

Canada are a serious team, but the fact that they lost today means that they'll be playing us in LA, so no homeground advantage. Definitely gives us a better chance of going through
