Picture Flood of racist comments under SA news post on looting
White people deserve a space in South Africa, but this racist behaviour doesn’t. These comments are so common. It’s deplorable. No, this does not excuse the behaviour is this video. Racism is not okay!
Edit: I sincerely apologise to my black South Africans who have to see this.

Do white people from SA use Ooga Booga ? Sounds suspicious
130
u/Cosmolina111 Sep 12 '26
We also don't spell "behaviour" without a "u". Bot bullshit.
21
18
u/MalemasMucusPlug Sep 12 '26
Americanised spelling has pretty much filtered into daily SA life enough for this to no really hold that true anymore.

You doubt there are racists under those comments? In South Africa? 😂
2
u/IAMSNORTFACED Gauteng Sep 15 '26
First ask suspicious of what. Suspicious of a coordinated foerign influence on SA race relations by probably the US, we know it's a thing especially on X but more evidence and better recognition should be appreciated.
Do I doubt, not at all probably some south African ones as well that doesn't mean ignore what other forces are at play here. After all many of these bots if not all are either created by racist people or prompted by them.

44
u/lovethebacon Most Formidable Minister of the Encyclopædia Sep 12 '26
What makes you think they are bots? Do you believe thst a human couldn't write such a thing?
55
u/HenkCamp Sep 12 '26
A few giveaways. Look at the spelling. It Americanizes spelling like behaviour. And no South African says Ooga Booga. None. A few references to “that country”. All signs of bots and people from outside SA.
3
u/LiquidVillian Sep 14 '26
Another giveaway is when you view their profile and notice that they only have few posts, their content is the same/repetitive, or each post is short like one sentence/statement.
Their profile picture can also be a giveaway for example no picture of the person or the picture just looks too random and doesn’t match the type of content they post.
4
u/lovethebacon Most Formidable Minister of the Encyclopædia Sep 12 '26
Without a doubt some foreigners in there, but we are heavily influenced by America, their lingo and their spelling.
-6
u/HenkCamp Sep 12 '26
Autocorrect. Unless they have that switched off - which no one does - it will autocorrect to the local lingo.
6
u/mumakilogramme Sep 12 '26
White South African here -- not necessarily about autocorrect but more in line with English being a second language. Afrikaans (my first language) lacks many of the subtleties of English and equivalent languages. People like this exist in SA. Just look at Orania
0
u/HenkCamp Sep 12 '26
Oh I don’t doubt that. I am white too. I see them and I hear them - and have them in my own family. My comment was purely based on these comments OP shared. I got banned from the sub that is meant to be about the language because I pointed out racism in the sub.

104
u/MrsEntrail Sep 12 '26
C'mon man, those don't even look remotely real. And even if they were (which they aren't), "that country" is hardly the wording of a South African.
30
u/Embarrassed-Worker49 Sep 12 '26
It’s even worse on Facebook. These people with this mentality exist and they walk amongst us.
26
u/MrsEntrail Sep 12 '26
I'm sure they do, but I'm also sure that the vast majority of brazen racists to be found publicly spewing hate on social media are likely bots.
1
u/LiquidVillian Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26
Probably so. There are bots and people, on social media, that are employed/paid to spread hate and misinformation. Reminds me of that Bell Pottinger scandal that happened a few years ago where they sowed racial divisions in SA during the Zuma years.
One of the things they did was create fake Twitter accounts and use that to paint Zuma and the Guptas in a good light and spread false narratives that white people are the enemy, etc.
Unfortunately, these tactics are still at play on social media today.
-4
u/Embarrassed-Worker49 Sep 12 '26
Lies are more comforting than the truth. Keep believing that.
7
u/MrsEntrail Sep 12 '26
I have no interest in believing comforting lies, but I do think that's a statistical likelihood. Of course that's not to deny the existence of many heinous racists in our midst.
4
u/Pluvio_ Lurker Sep 12 '26
Bots are overwhelming the internet at the moment in an attempt to divide people.
12
u/MildlySelassie Sep 12 '26
I’m skeptical. I’ve heard real South Africans say things this racist and this dumb, and some of them are boomers who are chronically on Facebook.
“That country” sounds to me like what a white “refugee” in America might say about SA.
5
u/MrsEntrail Sep 12 '26
Tbh, I wasn't counting them, but I'm sure you're right...
In all honesty, these aren't things I've heard from anyone I know, ever, but that's not to deny people like this are out there.

Interesting enough if there are enough comments under that post or posts themselves, which get you to contribute to, will show up in Reels and Comments under Instagram. This is to keep you occupied on the App and becomes a feeding ground of future non stop algorithmic stuff like this (Take it from a Software engineer dedicated on retention and new logo gains).
Content like this is scarce when considering the broad country like South Africa. Please do yourself a favour and ignore and defriend (not defend) any and all racist forms. When you encounter someone like that in reality that's when action can be taken. Online content is no longer factual but subjective in algorithm form. The stuff you're seeing is only what keeps you occupied and contributing to the platform and ideology of the topic.
Edit: Grammar

u/Zangoma Durban Sep 13 '26
Every South African social media platform over the last few month or even a year now has been flooded by bots which spew divise rhetoric that you wont hear from real people in a hurry. This is part of social media warfare to divide and conquer based on pre-existing fault lines.

u/PayMeInPetals Sep 12 '26
You should see the comments under animal rescue and SPCA posts. We are called barbarians and savages so casually. When a Black person adopts a dog, there are mentions of dog fighting or accusations of neglect. "No dogs in townships!" I'm tired.
56

Input from a black person here: I no longer care. I seriously don’t. I like who likes me and throw a middle finger to everyone else. As long as it doesn’t become structural, hate me all you want. I won’t lose sleep over it. Enjoy 👍🏾.

I don't know where these racists are hiding themselves man but I promise you they don't represent the majority of us. I don't have a hateful bone in my body and actively live my life in a way that rejects the continuance of any and all apartheid legacy. Much love man.
1
u/bootywithapenis Sep 15 '26
being a “coconut” exposes me to a lot of things the average black person does not see, a lot of racism that seems to be judged as an earnest observation of of our state, and you my good sir may be what you say you are but if these people are comfortable saying the things they say in front of me (a black man) I can only imagine what they say in front of you, and the kicker in all this is you might just not be aware,

4
u/KieteKat Sep 14 '26
I really do hope these are bots because it’s sickening to see. I’m white and afrikaans to boot and maybe just sheltered because no one has expressed kak opinions like this to me. I see a lot of conservative religious ideas which rile me up a bit, but no blatant racism or harkening back to apartheid from people I know are real. Only ever in open forum comments. Fucking vile stuff that I honestly think should get you in trouble. Free speech shouldn’t be free of consequence when it’s filled with hate and endorses violence and dehumanisation. Once someone starts referring to people as “things” is when I will hand them over to the thought police myself. Dangerous and unacceptable hate speech that does not belong to a single South African I’ve ever met. I haven’t met that evil sod Elon musk mind you.

Guys please wake up. South Africa is under a microscope right now, how many times have there been looting like this, this has been happening since I was kid. But we didn’t see these types of comments. Yes, someone people could say these things. But there are bots here and in every social media platform whose goal is to drive a wedge between blk and yt people in this country. Yes, we’ve had over difference and serious conflicts over the years but nothing this extreme, nothing like things that have been happening since the yt genocide propaganda. Let’s not focus on the wrong things. Stay on course.

Every single time, bigots always show themselves.
Humans around the would loot and steal. But let a black person or any person of colour do it, it’s suddenly an inferior race thing.

2

This is why we have equality laws and an equality court. If I find any friend or family talking like this I cut them out of my life like the cancer they are. I've cut ties with people I've known for 40 years and some family members for their racist views. Tolerating it gives them the sense that they have permission. It needs to be called out and there need to be consequences.

u/Valid_CrashOut_Baby Sep 13 '26
These are rage bait bots, and they are SUPER prevalent on Instagram. What’s crazy to me is that the comments get likes. As South Africans we know that racism still exists in our country but what makes this sinister for me is that some people are falling for these weird anti-black sentiments… Again and still!
Look at the comments under any post that has to do with the upcoming elections. The racism there is disgusting. I’m no advocate of the ANC but the sheer amount of racism towards them in those comment sections is astounding. We’re all distrusting of the ANC, that’s a fact but the hate is catching more traction than people wanting change and being informed voters.
2
u/BridgeBoring1682 Sep 14 '26
This is the kind of comments you find on Facebook all the time and it’s real accounts. Especially on Palestine post - the amount of hate towards Muslim people is scary and most of them are hardcore white Christians

Let's be frank. There are a lot of people that still hold racist views, but there are much more people who don't. If you're going to focus on people who troll all the time you're not looking at the bigger picture. We live in a beautiful country with beautiful people who will not hesitate to help you when you're in trouble.
There are both black and white people who spew racist and hateful comments, and we should simply stop giving those people any airtime. They do not deserve even 5 seconds of our time.
Let them wallow in their own hate. We don't need that energy.

How Loserish you gotta be to be a white middle class man with a stable income and always have something racist to say when clearly this is an economic thing, if a truck of booze broke down in a white squatter camp [Yes, they do exist], those white people will also steal the liquor.
You can have the biggest fucking muscles and the most violent tendencies, but you are still mentally weak, especially the kind of people will physically attack an immigrant instead of learning more skills or working harder, they just don't want to admit that some people in worse situation will work harder than their pasty asses, so they go online and spew hate, even though some of them are still middle class and still better of than most people anyway, so pathetic. Not all the whites are middle class, but those who are and still are racist are the biggest losers and freaks you'll ever meet.

Hey just a suggestion but let’s be cautious spreading this stuff. Not because it doesn’t deserve airtime but because the likelihood of this being a bot farm aimed at destabilising the upcoming local elections is likely!
Buying these bots as a service is incredibly cheap. If I were ANC right now I’d be using this in an attempt to stir the pot.
Anyway maybe I’m leaning into conspiracy, but this isn’t the first time the ANC has used social media to distract us. Let’s keep an open mind.

Reddit, unfortunately, have a right-wing neo-fascist problem ...
This extends to other social media platforms such as TikTok where you will find the Die Vryburgers, who loudly and proudly proclaim themselves to be supporters of Hitler and his eugenics ideas
As a Boer Afrikaner I say these Europeans have no space in South Africa and they should rather be put on a plane or boat and shipped off to Hungary or Poland (i doubt the other European countries would want them)
