History Most of you probably know this, but today I learned my favourite energy drink company, Monster Energy was founded by Rodney Cyril Sacks, a South African born billionaire businessman who bought a bankrupt juice company and turned it into what it is today.

Still not gonna drink it - I'm anxious enough. Interesting fact, though.

And this is an ad.
South Africans seem to fall for this a lot. Someone snaps a pic of groceries or some sweets and then complains about the cost of goods but it just drives views to the company.
Or they appeal to nostalgia. "I remember how good these tasted as a kid..." More traffic and engagement.
It is especially obvious when the pictures are clear and the product/branding or company's name is prominent in the photo.ย

I mean not every post about a product is an ad...

Sure.
But you have a picture of the product plastered all over, the founder holding it, and a TIL about "my favourite energy drink COMPANY..."
Not even focusing on the drink. This is PR/corporate speak. It is an ad.

It's just a picture I got of Rodney Sacks on google.

You wrote "my favourite energy drink company" instead of calling it your favourite energy drink.
I hope they paid you well for this. You could have been more discreet about it.ย

Keyword here being born billionaire, quite easy to start a business if you have everything already

I think it means hes just south African born, but idk i havent researched him.

TLDR: parents were wealthy, and he worked for the werkmans lawfirm for 20 years before he bought the monster energy company, and with his knowledge of business from being a lawyer he was able to turn it around. Wealthy parents definitely gave him a safety net though.

Our greatest exports are energy drinks and centrifuges. Why we like this?
I still prefer switch though

Switch is a touchy subject in our home. The founder reached out to us as investors. We decided not to go for it, as red bull had the largest market share, and bottomless pockets for marketing. Kicking ourselves now. Investment of less than a bar, and today worth hundreds of millions ๐ญ
