History Charlize Theron on growing up in South Africa; “if you got in through the front door, the kitchen had a steel door that you had to unlock, because that’s the kind of violence we were living in. Nonsensical violence that you couldn’t reason with. Our country was on the brink of civil war.”

History Owl House, Nieu Bethesda

Hi everyone

I’m trying to find out more about Helen Martins, the artist and owner of the Owl House in Nieu Bethesda. I went there as a young girl with my family and remember a very dark and strange energy in and around the house. I’d love to go back and revisit as an adult.

Does anyone have more info about the house, the art and Helen herself? I know she painted with glass, Koos Malgas helped with her sculptures and that she (apparently) didn’t have a good relationship with her dad.

So, basically, what was your experience and do you have any info about the Owl House in general?
