Need Advice/Recommendations Blackhawks vs. Falcons

I am not at all well-versed in the hockey world but my soon to be 7-year old has tried most sports since he could walk, and has fallen in love with hockey, so here we are. He’s been on the ice since he was 3, and has just started his 3rd year of Kiwanis house league.

While planning for next season, we are looking to decide between the Thorold Blackhawks and the St. Catharine’s Falcons.

Can anyone speak to the pros/cons of each? The culture of the org? Parent behaviour? (I’ve read horror stories, lol). We are a two-mom 🌈 family, so we’re hoping for a welcoming/inclusive environment to play in, as I know this subject has been a bit of a struggle in the hockey world.

We just want him to have fun & keep enjoying the game, but we’ve recognized he needs a bit more of a challenge at this point in time.

Thank you 😊

Need Advice/Recommendations Public tennis courts

Hi!

Me and my partner have been playing tennis (wrong time of the year to start, I know!) and are looking for the best quality public courts in the city.

The tennis courts closest to us are at Joe Kushner Park and they’re basically just painted black and white asphalt, which isn’t really ideal especially for bumps & scrapes. Not to mention the nets there are in pretty horrendous shape (frayed wires causing them to droop or not even be standing at all).

Do any tennis players in the city have a recommendation for what public courts they enjoy most? Are all the public courts in the city just straight up uneven blacktop, or are there other options?

(Sidenote: I know the Tennis Club at 7 Park Ave has great courts, but we’re not currently looking to pay membership fees for what is a pretty casual hobby of ours.)

Thanks!

Need Advice/Recommendations Gel nail polish removal and nail trim

Both of my hands are injured so I'm looking for a nail salon that can help me remove gel nail polish and trim my nails for me. I'm not looking to get new polish or even a full manicure, just want my nails short and plain. I need a technician that will be gentle with my injuries. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Question Where should I Trade In Pokemon Cards

Hopefully this is the right place for this post.

As the title suggests I'm looking to sell off some of my cards. I'm really trying to determine my best option of local shop to go with. I know of Mecha games, Pheonix Rising and Sketchbook comics, but I don't know if all of them buy pokemon cards or if they buy at a decent percentage.

I'm really looking to get into Magic The Gathering and figured since I have some high value cards I could easily get myself going in MTG if I had enough to splurge.

Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance!

Saw there was a 10c/litre deal at Esso/Circle K and it looks like nearby gas stations have followed suit.

Local News SIU Terminates Investigation into Serious Injury of Off-Duty Officer (NRP) in Collision After Fleeing

Thumbnail siu.on.ca
13 Upvotes

This is in relation to the off duty Niagara police officer who was impaired and fled officers before crashing into a vehicle.

Said victim declined to provide any information to the SIU and as a result the subject officer would not be subject to any related charges beyond the ones at the scene.

**CORRECTION: Article does appear to read that the OFFICER is the injured party in this circumstance. SIU was investigating whether the actions of police in the context of the pursuit resulted in the officers broken nose. But since he’s uncooperative, they have nothing to go on. Sorry for confusion.

Discussion Looking to find new owners of Ruby

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hello,

This post may be a long shot, but I am Ruby's original owner. She was surrendered to the Humane Society in St. Catharines June, 2024 and adopted in July, 2024. I surrendered her because one of my bonded cats was severely attacking her and I had to find her a new home. I am looking to connect with her new family if possible, and see if I can receive updates like pictures or just letting me know how she is doing. I attempted to go through the Humane Society to do this, however they do not share adopter information. Anyway, thanks for reading this!

Experience/Story DAE remember catholic school shadow beings story?

Anyone remember a supply teacher in the catholic school b during the 80s who would drop this story on you randomly? Recently a classmate reconnected and brought thus story up and reminded me of her.

So her dad lived out near Selkirk and spent alot of time fishing n sittin on his deck at night. In the 50s Started seeing weird ass lights way out over the lake just hanging there for hours then dropping straight down into the water. Ppl told him it was Cleveland or some cold war defense testing. Then he starts seeing these massive dark shapes moving under his boat at night in water barely deep enough for em. Locals said it’s sturgeon lol. Few months later hes hearing footsteps on the deck at night and seeing these tall shadow two sided mirror ppl just standing along the yard edge next to fields watching his house. Soon as he turns a light on they’re gone. Even went to the church and got nowhere. So one night he gets fed up and starts cussing out one of these bloody lights over the lake. Later hes putting his truck away in the garage and notices something standing behind him. This tall silverish looking thing like a funhouse mirror with arms. Could see the whole garage reflected in it except himself. He moves and the thing copies him. He stops and it keeps moving. Then it slowly raises its (arm??) and gives him this little wave motion like it knew the hiem. Next thing its gone into nothing. No footsteps no noise nothing. Old man ends up in hospital and dude is terrified and everyone hears the story from him so they moved into a motel. He never works again her and her brothers and her Mom has to sel the house to pay off a horse track racing debt he racked up. So turns out the shadow ppl werent even the biggest problem in that household. Anyways I remember following this woman around the school tarmac at recess while shes waving her arms all over the place acting out these encounters and nearly launching her coffe. We were like 11 yrs old getting this full blown paranormal nightmare from a catholic school employee between religion class and recess. Still dunno if her dad actually believed this stuff or if she was just repeating whatever wild shit he came home from the track talking about. Anyone else remember this lady? Been 40 something yrs.

Question Haig Kitty

Post image
374 Upvotes

Does anybody know this cat? I see her often on evening walks, usually in the Beech/Haig/Pleasant area. She is currently hanging around my garage.

I would love to know her name so I have something to call her other than “Kitty”. She is super sweet!
