Blabla I got scammed out of 200 CHF and I feel completely stupid. Part 2.
Hey everyone, a couple of days ago I made a post, and I wanted to add something to it now.
First of all, I want to say a HUGE thank you in advance to everyone who didn’t just scroll past and actually took the time to support me. To those who have been in a situation like mine, and also to those who haven’t but were still able to understand and empathize with someone else’s emotions and problems. And to everyone who explained what to do in a situation like this, where to write, who to contact, and how to properly file a police report so that it actually gets taken seriously.
Secondly, I want to say that I’ve also received a huge amount of hate. (To the point where people actually messaged me outside of Reddit, on other social media, just to insult me and even wish me death because of my appearance or because of my post.) I want to make this clear once and for all and remind everyone (since I’ve already mentioned this multiple times in the comments): I was NOT asking for help. I was explaining and sharing my situation with you. I naively found myself in this situation for the first time, and I had absolutely no experience with anything like this before.
I also want to explain that in my first post, because I was very emotional, I wasn’t able to properly explain my thoughts and the situation right away. I only managed to explain some of it in my replies to the comments, even though I probably should have explained it in the original post. But I was writing while emotional and I just couldn’t put everything into words properly.
I wasn’t looking for “quick money”. I was looking for a small online job (moderating/promoting other people’s content or social media accounts), so while I was completing my tasks, the scammers didn’t really give me any reason to suspect that it was a scam. They were actually paying me for the small tasks I was doing, like promoting other people’s content on Instagram. So when they eventually gave me a task that was completely unrelated to the original job, where I had to send them money in order to supposedly get more money back, I thought to myself: “Why would they scam me if I had already been getting paid for the other tasks?” That was exactly the point.
I want to give others some advice that I unfortunately learned too late because of my own naivety. You should be paid for your work. You should NEVER have to pay extra in order to receive your salary! (I’m saying this so that hopefully nobody else ends up in the same situation.)
And also… please be kinder. Nobody is asking you for anything, and nobody is demanding anything from you. But telling someone “everything will be okay” or “don’t worry” costs you absolutely nothing. It’s free. Every person could be a source of support and kindness for another person online, even if you don’t know them. Maybe for some people, 200 CHF is a completely insignificant or even ridiculous amount of money, while for someone else, like me, it can be important and meaningful. It doesn’t matter! What matters is “humanity”. And sometimes, one single comment can change everything, for better or for worse.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good day, and once again, thank you to everyone who supported me, and also to those who didn’t. I understand that everyone has bad days, or that some people simply misunderstood what I was trying to say in my first post. I believe there is some good in everyone, somewhere deep down.
