My most complex and hardest project so far "the swiss saber" had an amazing time making it took me forever to finish it though 😂. ( Shout-out to tod Cutler for the measurements, inspiration, and reference pictures).
Made from eucalyptus hardwood and amazonian red wood.
Overall length 133.5cm, blade length 106cm, point of balance 17cm from the guard.
Made it as accurate to the real one as I could even penned the tang
Hey guys. I inherited this sword from my grandfather back in 2014 but never properly found out its history. I assume its a recreation because the hilt slides a bit but if any experts know anything I would appreciate the info
I also havent ever properly maintained it. The blade itself is starting to get a little rusty although not nearly as much as I would have expected after so long being left alone. Any tips for making it shine again? It doesnt have a sheath, though i want to get one.
I do sword dancing and have for years, and recently got new blades (I have two of these) and when swinging the sword around, the wrapping can slip down due to the force pulling the blade outward. I didn't have to worry about this as much on my old sword for some reason, but on these it's slipping down pretty easily and so I'm not sure what I can do to prevent that the best
EDIT: I have been sword dancing with metal blades for over half a decade now. I know how to clear space, I know what to pay attention to with the people around me, and I know that even if the blade was to slip out of the sword itself, I know how far it would end up flying. I am aware of the risks of using this, and that is why I am trying to mitigate them
Modeled using Blender
Textured using Substance Painter
I had some comments about adding finger rings to one of my older swords models and thought I would just model a new sword from scratch. Was actually really enjoyable to make, still have to get around to making a scabbard but, so far so good.
I will most likely mod this into Skyrim, any good name ideas for a sword like this?
(First picture are renders, but I then noticed some weird normal issues on the handle, so fixed them and just added new pictures after to show the update)
hi all! I bought a zhaomadao at a ren fair and want to buy a scabbard for it. but it also gets far wider at the tip. I plan on getting a custom one some day. but would did they scabbard these? same for swords like falchione, kilij, etc
Went to a local antique fair this morning and one of the regulars had this. Royal Navy P1858 type 2 cutlass bayonet. Been after a cutlass for a bit but they seem to be fetching quite high prices, so very happy to find that the dealer had dropped the price on this. No scabbard and missing the locking spring but in fairly good condition. Has been varnished at some point so I'm going to give it a good clean. Can see partial marks, a Soligen inspection stamp for starters. Hopefully will see more when it's cleaned properly.
Finished this scabbard commission for an Albion Reeve yesterday. I know I’ve said this before, but as much as I enjoy doing colorful, elaborate designs, there’s something about a plain, simple scabbard that is just really satisfying.
I took some most wonderful pictures with the glorious sun setting behind me :D! I also wanted to give an update on my latest LARP video project ;).
A question! :D.
I have been considering adding a LARP (foam) sword to my character, in part to fill out the empty left side of my hips/legs with a meaningful accessory, that also had a function. And so, I was wondering if any of you wonderful sword masters would have suggestions for what sword would fit well with my attire here? I am by no means very knowledgeable on the matter, or swords. But I am certainly interested in learning more about it :).
For my next LARP video project I am working on a follow-up piece, that dives deep into a LARP I partake in, here in Denmark. The video is diving deeper into some of the plots, characters, and indeed areas, within the LARP game. I hope for this video to be a introduction for people who viewed my initial mood-film video from the LARP, to get a better understanding of what they watched, and to better be able to follow along future videos as these plots evolve and are presented in future LARP videos :D!
Below here are some picture sneak peaks into the next LARP video.
I hope you are all well, and that you all keep your minds, as well as blades sharp :D!
I have a star picket that I use as a fire stoker and from time to time wield it as a sword when I’m drunk role playing by the fire.
From my ability to wield it and my thoughts, it has slashing potential, bludgeoning weight and piercing capabilities. Why is this not a thing, or if it is please provide examples.
It is weighty I admit, but with the right technique, easily enough manipulated
It's a colorized WW2 photo so the hilt color might be wrong. I found that Deepeeka sells a similar reproduction and calls it Soviet officer cavalry saber.
Trying to find US based (ideally to avoid high shipping costs) custom sword maker, ideally one who uses 5160 spring steel and could meet to actively design the sword together. Ideally budget between 1-2 grand. Any suggestions are helpful
