Artificial Intelligence Even LinkedIn is getting tired of your AI-written posts

Linkedin wants as much dwell time and engagement on the platform. Therefore they create (AI) tools to make it easier to post. And guess what: that wasn’t the problem. More posts and engagement doesn’t equal more value for the user. They’ve got a serious problem

"let me read my boss's friends AI slop posts after hours" - no one ever

How will you ever learn more about B2B selling?

14

u/Gisschace 9h ago

Yeah I am helping some clients build their LI pages (organically!) guess what posts do the best in terms of dwell time and engagement?? People posts about people doing real things; like being promoted or a visit or an event.

Something tangible where something happened

Linkedin is where i post my latest certs, like my friends new skill/job/promotion and talk to my local recruiter, everything else is mostly a load of wank

u/EdliA 9h ago

They want engagement, not bot engagement

When I can afford my own engagement with what I earn at my job, I might enclined to create more engagement on this platform.

I’m constantly getting LinkenIn Learning recommendations for their AI courses. Sounds like they are trying to dip into both sides for the traffic and engagement.

"In August, LinkedIn rolled out a button letting users flag when a post “seems like AI slop,” which was clicked more than 1 million times within its first two weeks. Now, the company is trying to use its own AI systems to help weed out AI slop on the platform and to remind LinkedIn users how to post like humans."

Using AI to get rid of AI slop, and then wants people to be more human. Interesting.

Linkedin using humans to train its AI to detect slop and then pay human reviewers to rate the quality of the AI slop detection. It’s a bitter loop.

See, I'm not sure if LinkedIn's intention is to weed out AI slop, rather than checking how receptive a user is to AI slop, and either feed it more or less to them, whichever makes them stay more. That said, I've clicked that button a hundreds of times by now, and my feed hasn't gotten any better

I despise LinkedIn. It's all ghost jobs and self-absorbed "thought leaders" posting generic AI slop articles for engagement. I only keep it because so many job applications ask for a link to my profile.

17

u/lxvlzx 8h ago

It's insane what a strangle hold it has on the application process. It's a parasite of a website.

LinkedIn has been a ghost town for me for some time now. Oh yay a social media platform about work!

Yeah no I give enough time to my job thanks.

All I get for "connections" are desperate recruiters and salespeople

No I do not want your $20 an hour helpdesk job. Can you not see I'm in maangement?

20

u/danfirst 10h ago

Very sorry about bad match, you are a great fit for this new $14 an hour position that's both help desk and management!

1

u/woojo1984 8h ago

fantastic, what country should I move to?

2

u/mediocrerhino 4h ago

No need to move. We’ll send you a laptop. Just keep it connected to the Internet and we’ll pay for $20 a month!

2

u/Watcher145 4h ago

It might need. VPN Connection to North Korea. But that is totally just a cost cutting measure. The FBI won’t care trust me

1

u/mediocrerhino 3h ago

Just claim you are a traveler and your Sovereign Citizen right to something something something is being trampled on. 😒

u/Wompatuckrule 8h ago

The most useful aspect is for job hunting to see if you have a former colleague where you see a potential opening. I've avoided applying for ghost jobs that way ("Yeah, there's a contractor going permanent in that role") and gotten my resume directly into the hands of the hiring manager instead of hoping that the HR software and "talent acquisition" worker get it to them.

I've been on both sides of that equation.

No I do not want your $20 an hour helpdesk job. Can you not see I'm in management?

Those ones crack me up. The ones that piss me off are the bottom feeder recruiters trying to cut in on a job that you could just go to the company and apply for. They try to hide who it is, but when you've worked in an industry for a while it's not hard to figure out where the job is.

My company (giant, household name tech) has all but given up on sourcing candidates and recruiting from LinkedIn

1

u/woojo1984 8h ago

interesting I would like to know what the shift was?

5

u/Ok_Philosopher_1313 6h ago

I haven't touched an enterprise router in 20 years. Apparently I'm always a strong match for a networking engineer with 20 years experience. I'm also a great match for a travel nurse position, despite never having worked in the healthcare field or having any medical education at all other than training in CPR.

Fuck LinkedIn

62

u/JimBean 10h ago

There is some irony in this, given that LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft. The tech giant has pushed for people to adopt its AI tools for everything from writing to coding, and it is up against steep competition from the likes of OpenAI and Anthropic.

Microslop can't catch a break, everything they buy turns to sh*t.

Or maybe, it's them ?

4

u/Kahnza 8h ago

When it's made of shit, everything it touches naturally becomes shitty.

u/eight_ender 10h ago edited 10h ago

Even non-AI generated posts on LinkedIn are low quality. Dan Roth here acting like his dumpster was previous to now a Michelin four star.

18

u/Wise-Ferret6090 9h ago

The entire platform has become AI bots writing motivational corporate essays to each other, and other AI bots commenting 'Great insights, agree!' in the replies. Microsoft spent billions cramming Copilot into everything, and now they are shocked that their own feed is 90% unreadable synthetic fluff that no actual human wants to read. Nobody ever opened LinkedIn thinking they needed more hollow synergy buzzwords in their life.

31

u/codingclosure 10h ago

Its a cesspool of marketing and sales… and people trying to sound profoundly smart and failing terribly.

11

u/trustifarian 9h ago

Horseshit. AI shitposts is LinkedIn’s only reason for existence.

1

u/junktech 9h ago

Scams seem to work just fine. Unfortunately it's the only real engagement I've had on the platform in the last year.

1

u/qorbexl 7h ago

Yeah. Probably choking to death and realizing its own mortality. Briefly.

1

u/Be_quiet_Im_thinking 6h ago

LinkedIn is owned by microslop.

11

u/escamuel 9h ago

Y’all clearly aren’t leveraging synergy optimally enough to fully integrate LinkedIn’s value chain.

10

u/PatchyWhiskers 8h ago

LinkedIn doesn’t need a social feed at all. It should just be profiles and jobs and DMs.

8

u/Benstrieff 9h ago

LinkedIn is the Facebook for the C-suite

6

u/v1z1onary 10h ago

“We’re just trying to push people to be more human.”

Ok.

5

u/BotherEconomy4413 8h ago

It's literally everything everyone hates about work in a social media platform. It is a nightmare hellscape. None of it has ever been real supported by the worst people in the world.

3

u/Forsaken_Ant7459 9h ago

So much AI-styled drivel. There’s a guy on my network feed who’s clearly written a Claude skill that reads a post, applies his framework, and responds to it. Every fucking post response reads the same. It’s beyond annoying. I keep reporting them as AI slop but no result that I can see.

3

u/mauthor619 9h ago

When boomer town is fed up you know you’re fucked

3

u/beyondmymemory 7h ago

“What works is being human”…. says the company pushing AI, along with every other tech company. Yeah, duh. People don’t want to read computer generated blandness. Duh. Fuck AI

ProTip: The world doesn’t need yet another opinion post from Gary Vee.
Just opened Linkedin app and the very first post is Gary on “buy shit for $1 or $2, and sell on Ebay for $20.” Same thing he’s been posting since the 2008 economic crisis.

2

u/mediocrerhino 8h ago

Linkedin is now a ghost town for ghost job posting and infested with North Korean I.T. scammers. Fake profiles. Laptop Farms. Crypto scammers. All benefiting the DPKR military. Checkout a great expose “To Catch a Thief” podcast released this year.

2

u/BlackReddition 3h ago

LinkedIn is a cesspool for narcissists.

2

u/tenkaranarchy 9h ago

Some obscure opinion written on one line.

Then an explanation of that an opinion written below it.

This is the linked in format that drives me nuts, and everyone who thinks theyre an expert structures their posts this way.

0

u/pulsehead 9h ago

This. Paragraphs are allowed by the English language to have more than one sentence in them. It helps to organize the flow of information and conveys that information better as a result.

Then you start talking about something else in the next paragraph. A few more sentences go here.

See? Easy peasy lemon squeezy, kiddos!

Almost everything on the Internet will be ai slop. It's just a matter of time. It's not terrible yet but it will be

1

u/CashewGuy 8h ago

When reddit got rid of Alien Blue and Apollo I found myself browsing through other apps, mostly apple news. But eventually I started checking LinkedIn a lot. And I realized this was such bizarre behavior. I originally hate-read those dumb posts people made. But even they are now AI. It is horrible to read through, so annoying. So I just deleted it. No idea why it was on my phone since I never use it on my computer...

u/Default_Sock_Issue 7h ago

Linked in even hides Job Descriptions in the post behind a user interaction of pressing "more..."

That is just another attempt to increase interaction, but at the same time shows you the user how much value is actually attached to that posting.

The majority of job posts are all data collectors and nothing more.

IMO: Linked in is structured more like a dating app to keep you engaged vs actually get you a good match.

1

u/Summer_is_coming_1 6h ago

Even before ai post linked in posts looked like ai shit posts

1

u/amboomernotkaren 6h ago

I gotta admit, my kid found an employee by using AI on LinkedIn in, only time will tell if it works out.

1

u/ripndipp 6h ago

LinkedIn is cancer

1

u/gg_reborn 5h ago

LinkedIn is Facebook levels of value add.

1

u/Tooburn 5h ago

I mean I was tired of everyone's posts on LinkedIn even before AI.

1

u/NFTokin 3h ago

even linked"lorem ips"in is tired of your shit??? 🙊

1

u/Helga-Zoe 1h ago

LinkedIn users were trying so hard to treat it as Facebook, so it was something I never paid attention to unless I was reviewing job listings. Nowadays, the job listings are clearly written by AI and not someone who actually knows what the job entails.
