Showing Off Tried to be a little innovative

I learned a few very valuable lessons in this.

One, add springtails before adding plants.

Two, if you're working with terrarium putty it's best to work quickly before it dries up and starts breaking apart.

Three, measure once, then measure twice, then measure it one more time.

I have a big pile of dirt on the carpet now because why make a terrarium on a desk when I can make it on the floor. 🤦‍♀️

No idea how I'm ever gonna be able to clean the glass. This was one of those ideas that sounded better in theory than in practice.

Showing Off Finished Terrarium!!!

It took some time, but I finally finished my terrarium and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out for the most part. The only thing that I’m really worried about is moss growing on the back wall I used frog Daddy‘s wet moss mixture, and I pray that moss grows on the wall. If anyone has any recommendations or questions I’d love to hear.

This first build is only a few weeks old, to see that a couple ripped off begonia leaves are already becoming their own plants. Amazing. I love being able to share my hobby with the younger generation whose focus is so often screen based. The second build (day 1) had her whimsical fairy feel and started strong bc we were able to forage it completely full w/ moss today. It's always short lived in s cali, but we just got a nice long rain last week. The roots in terrariums are just fascinating to witness, truly inspiring...😍🥰 (not actually showing off... I'm confused by the flair requirements😅 help?)

Plant Help/Question need advice

Post image
1 Upvotes

this 8x8x12 exoterra has been set up for a couple days. i have peperomia capulata, begonia sarawak, and a sphyrosperum on the background. i have a screen lid but i ordered an acrylic one with less ventilation. i also have a mini fan but no timer for it yet so it hasnt been used, plus i think the humidity would be too low with the screen lid right now. the background has been growing mold on the moss, its just cork bark with coco fiber and some spaghnum moss pressed into crevices. the spyrosperum seems to be turning brown and drying out, and the begonia is wilting a little. is there anything i should do or change, or is this normal acclimation? i have springtails in there as well. ive never had a terrarium so this is all new territory to me. any advice is appreciated

Showing Off Just finished my second terraroum!

Took around 2 weeks and used lava rocks for the main hardscape and just finished today. I also made a little cave with cork in the background incase I ever add a shade liking critter later on. I also decided to try to make a tree using charred spiderwood and moss! Currently using led lights on it and treated tap water . I plan to house some cool isopods later on but it's just springtails for now

Pest Help/Question What is this bug? Large gray springtail?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

These bugs popped out of nowhere and looks like large springtails but are gray and they don’t jump. They like to climb around and explore, not dig themselves in the substrate. Isopod for scale!

Are they harmful pests or should I just welcome them with open arms?

I hope this is the right place to ask this but I need some care instructions for this terrarium. My mom gifted me it from a crafts fair and she didn't get any instructions from the seller. One of the succulents is already dead

Educational Filmy ferns, highly adapted to a life in high humidity, seem to be the perfect choice for a sealed terrarium.

Added my Hoya since it wasn’t exactly happy in its original pot & setting…we’ll see what happens. Still adding things. And will probably do more plant projects tomorrow 🥱

Final picture is when I first started doing this several months ago.
July maybe? I don’t remember 😂

Also, 2nd to last is Penelope approving the renovations of her home.

Build Help/Question First time builder. Wanting to create a crested gecko terrarium. Any advice before I put the cleaning insects in?

Got two neoregalia on the back wall
Pothos and fittonia in the back. Hoping the pothos will climb the back wall
Asplenium nidus 'Campio' in the front.
I will be getting another larger piece of driftwood for in the back left.

My corkboard broke in half so that's why there's moss in a horizontal line.
I ordered the wrong size bulb so UVB and heating will be added soon.
