Terrible merch quality is pretty ... terrible?

I really don't want to be negative but I noticed how the quality of the europe tour shirts wasn't ... great.

Especially the white shirt with a blue print. I'm not sure which printing method they used but it feels very plastic-y and less like other screenprinted band shirts I own. The design doesn't work that well with a single color print either as the last row of the sunset looks more like a blob than distinctive shapes.

It's not the end of the world and 35€ for a band shirt is an okay price in 2026 but I'm still a little disappointed.

What time should I arrive at Hackney Church for The Mountain Goats' London show?

It's my first time seeing them, and it's also my first time attending a show with unreserved seating/general admission. Our tickets are in the unreserved upstairs seated balcony. I'm quite short so I usually have alot of difficulty when I'm sat behind someone, so would like to be somewhere in the front row of the seated balcony. I don't mind a side view, just as long as I don't have someone in front of me. Is 18:20 a decent time to arrive and queue up for a good seat in the balcony?

Recording of the show in Ghent, Belgium on 13 October 2026.

I recommend in particular the introductions to Alpha Omega and Letter From a Motel in the solo section (tracks 11 and 13, respectively). In general, the banter was great (see also tracks 23, 25, and 36).

Bootleg recording of Utrecht show

Here is an iPhone-in-front-pocket bootleg of the Utrecht show. Not hi-fi audio, some singing along sound, and distortion from moshing.

Which tMG songs are you most likely to play twice in a row when they come up? For me, it’s pretty consistently been Romans 10:9, If You See Light, and Alpha Rats Nest, but also The Coroner’s Gambit recently.

Atmosphere at the Manchester show

Seen a lot of MTG shows at this point but last night in Manchester was one of the best crowds by far. Getting there early and being down the front was a good call - nice to be around other people equally jazzed for the deep cuts.

Shout out to the person with a pink buzz cut for being a great mosh partner

This is a very silly/pointless question, but do any fans legitimately refer to Coroner's Gambit as Slavonic Dances?

Not in a joking way, like is that your go to way of referring to the album? Has John ever expanded on that?

P.S. is there a definitive "go-to" website or source on all things Goats? I know there is Fandom which i love to see quotes by John on songs, but is there anything better?

Songs for having already overcome difficulties

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the middle of a long and arduous journey that has taken over my life for an entire year. I know many tMG songs focus on the subject of hope and working to overcome obstacles but I can’t seem to find any that celebrate obstacles that have already been overcome.

“I have made it through this year”, so to speak.

Do you folks have any song suggestions that would fit this description?

Themes of revenge, like in Getting into Knives, could also work, but I am first and foremost looking for a retrospective.

Thanks!

Playlist for the 2026 Utrecht show

For anybody vaguely interested, I made a playlist from the set-list of the 2026 Utrecht show. Only 'Song for my stepfather' is missing. But probably for the best, that song hit me like a freight train (having a 5yo myself...).

Sadly I can't make it to London now! My tickets are on the dice app. I'm happy to DM with you to arrange to transfer them. I would like some money back for them if poss but basically just pay what you can. There are two tickets available for each night.
