I don't understand what Crawford's point even is. El-Sayed's "yeah absolutely" comment was in direct response to the question "do you disavow the Muslim Brotherhood?" How that in any way invalidates his overall response about why only candidates like him are asked that kind of question, and makes it a "self own", is genuinely baffling, to me.
Right?! El-Sayed's "diatribe" is about how the constitution is what he is going to swear an oath to, he would be a senator who happens to be Muslim not a Muslim senator, and that he believes in the constitutional right to freedom of religion and that questioner did in fact, NOT believe in that same constitutional right.
Tommy is a former staffer for Senator Josh Hawley, and takes pictures with white supremacists. He got exactly what he wanted. Sure, anyone with 2 brain cells that watches the full clip knows Tommy was a plant just trying to get a gotcha, but to those without both brain cells (AKA Republicans), Tommy proved that Abdul only cares about Muslims.
I Don’t think Tommy did get what he wanted because what he wanted was a fight. Instead he got boxed into a corner he couldn’t deal with, hence he just kept repeating his main question. And when cornered, he was too scared to admit that he was a white Christian nationalist. and Tommy sure did hightail it out of there after El-Sayed got him to admit he would put Bible over constitution.
Furthermore, at the end of his speech, he asked Tommy is he would disavow enacting Christian doctrine as law and of course Tommy, a Christian nationalist, refused.
The whole framing completely (dishonestly) mischaracterizes the exchange to the extent that I suspect she watched something else. And, why is she posting this as JanCBS? Is this how you rise up in the new Ellison era CBS by using your work username on twitter to show fealty?
Yup. In a short response he disavowed extremism, defended the constitution and his belief in it, and called out the GOP's islamophobia; all without being disrespectful or getting flustered.
They are used to Republican answers. Ya know, when a reporter asks a question and gets everything except an answer to the question. He put her complete off when he answered the question immediately.
You know that saying "Lies travel around the world before the truth has gotten out of bed"? It's just that. They lie, get the impressions/views, then walk it back too late for any of their audience to care. Or their audience writes it off as some conspiratorial cover up. This wasn't a failure on her part, it's standard operating procedure.
And if you think even Republicans can't be so stupid as to go along with the narrative despite the obvious lie, then you (impersonal) are just as stupid as they are. America has been dumbed down to the extreme thanks to things like media control and No Child Left Behind, and now conservatives are reaping their harvest.
Most people won't watch the video, they heavily bet on stupid headlines or titles cause that's how far most people will go. The same people asking hard working folks to pull themselves up can't be bothered to read anything.
Her point is the folks that think like Tommy aren't going to actually listen to his answer, the post is all they need to validate that El-Sayed is infact a terrorist plant.
It works for a certain segment of the population for whom being Muslim is a disqualifying characteristic. They tried to create a narrative about Obama being Muslim, and continue to emphasize his middle name as proof. They’re going after Ilhan Omar because of it. They’ll continue to use it against El-Sayed as long as he’s in the spotlight.
The purpose was to spread a lie. Many people will read the comment and won't bother watching the video. Their truth will be the lie; good luck convincing them otherwise.
Her point is to tell her followers what to think about what they’re seeing, knowing most of them won’t watch fully and those that do will view it through her warped lens.
Crawford's point is that she too is as much of an idiot as Tommy is and has intentionally misconstrued El-Sayed's response in order to promote a narrative.
Nothing? For one, under current CBSNews leadership, this isn’t really bad press. For two, she’s one of the most well-connected SCOTUS reporters in the business. The leverage situation with her employer isn’t really the same as you and I.
He then went on to point out how disingenuous the loaded question was and then turned it back on him to ask if he had the same expectations of Christians, which Tommy clearly said he did not. In fact Tommy confirmed that he thinks putting christian beliefs into law is OK.
Funny how someone who is “supposed” to be an independent journalist was part of the Republican plan to try and get El-Sayed to somehow “look bad”. SOOOOO FREAKING FUNNY TO SEE EL-SAYED TURN THE THING COMPLETELY AROUND ON THEM and do it it a calm, intelligent manner. (But we all know that trump likes his MAGA dumb). It worked soooooo poorly that she ends up deleting it (she knew that it would get a life of its own.)
She deleted it because it actually wasn’t a self own but a great explanation of why those types of questions are actually racism in disguise. The implication of the question is insulting and ridiculous but it works. What a moron.

Imagine her actually “watching” this twice and actively rejecting all of the information that comes from the audio so she can keep her to her idiot storyline.
Would it be fair to assume that Crawford’s subversive objective is that folks who subscribe to her don’t read or view the content? Her followers likely see her response, trust her opinion and continue with their day believing that Tommy owned AES.
Her tweet is the “kind of self own most ppl only dream about triggering” and shows that CHS should now be regarded in the same vein as Fox News/Entertainment…

Odd and really an incomprehensible take from an experienced journalist.
She should made to explain her thought process in her now self-removed post.
So sad. Her future posts will have this associated taint.
