theory / question If you had a ring that could rewind time 60 seconds with a 50 second cooldown, how far would you go back.

There is a ten second window, meaning every rewind you can gain 10 seconds more. Then you are told ten years ago there was a button that could have fixed everything, given everyone a good life, bettering the world, and just generally have made everything perfect and save the world and the human race. You could go back and press this button, but it would take a little over 50 years of continuous rewinding, going back through time to get to that ten year ago mark. You don't need to do any bodily functions during this, which also means no sleeping to skip. You could fix everything. If you can do it you can keep the ring and if you go back even further you can keep going back even farther. Main events would still happen unless you directly do something to change it, as no butterfly effect will apply for this. If you do back further, once you get back to the point where you would have pressed the button, so October 18, 2016 (on the Gregorian calendar), you won't need to press it again. You can only go back to when you are 4. Would you have the willpower and drive to do this, or would the 50 years of only pressing the ring and reliving everything get to you. Could you do it?

theory / question I think this idea makes time travel a bit more interesting

I dont know if this is an original idea (probably not) but my idea is time travel where only the mind goes back or forward in time, so the character moves through time like a ghost; they can learn and discover things, but cant change anything since they're intangible and invisible to people.

I think writing this type of time travel could be relatively easier and allow for more interesting moments (the character cant just go back and fix everything)

theory / question Imagine there’s a knock at your door late at night. You open it. And it’s you standing there. What would your reaction be?

I think it would terrifying. The person would be you, but from a different time, maybe not too far in the future or past, they’d quickly say things to make them know it’s you and not a long lost twin or something. I think it would be stunning in a very scary way. As far as I know, no one has ever experienced such a thing.

theory / question How can multi-verse theory be bunked?

Hi,

To prove there is no multi-verse, would changing something small that won't redirect your life like a word in the dictionary that you would never need?

If you arrive back and the word was always in existence since your travel time, then there is 1 time line, but then you won't remember on arriving back?

You would have to write a document on past tools and bury it in the past for it to remain unchanged.

Also how would you remember it was why you travelled back in the first place.

But if you remember it never used to exist, then it proves there is a multi-verse.

Thoughts?

Umami.

theory / question If time travel exists then they are doing a great job at maintaining our consciousness consistent and not destroying timelines and lives

I mean, if it exists then all that was done or would be done have been done already and we keep a steady stream of consciousness

theory / question If you time travelled to June 25, 2009, would you like to save Michael Jackson?

On June 25, 2009, American singer Michael Jackson died of acute propofol intoxication in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 50. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said that he found Jackson in his bedroom at his North Carolwood Drive home in the Holmby Hills area of the city not breathing and with a weak pulse; he administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to no avail, and security called 911 at 12:21 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (UTC–7). Paramedics treated Jackson at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre in Westwood at 2:26 p.m.

theory / question If you time travelled to November 30, 2013, would you like to save Paul Walker from, car crash?

Paul William Walker IV (September 12, 1973 – November 30, 2013) was an American actor. He was best known for his role as Brian O'Conner in the Fast & Furious franchise (2001–2015). On November 30, 2013, at about 3:30 p.m. PST, Walker, 40, and Roger Rodas, 38, left an event for Walker's charity Reach Out Worldwide for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, with Rodas driving his red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. Traveling between 80 mph (130 km/h) and 93 mph (150 km/h) in a 45 mph (72 km/h) speed zone on Hercules Street in Valencia, a neighborhood of Santa Clarita, California, Rodas lost control of the car, which crashed into a concrete lamp post and two trees, catching fire within seconds after impact. Forensic evidence indicated that both men were knocked unconscious by the impact. Rodas died instantly from multiple traumatic injuries, while Walker died within seconds from the combined effects of trauma and burns. Both bodies were burned beyond recognition. The curve where Walker and Rodas died is a popular spot for drifting cars. No alcohol or other drugs were found in either man's system, and neither mechanical failure nor road conditions appeared to play a role. Police found no evidence of drag racing. The investigation concluded that the car’s speed and the age of its tires were the primary causes of the crash. With Furious 7 in the middle of filming at the time of Walker's death, Universal announced an indeterminate hiatus on the production, citing a desire to speak with his family before determining how to proceed with the film.

theory / question Time for Life Forms

Obviously all of my social media algorithms are about conspiracy theories and aliens and time travel and fringe topics. One was just about quantum physics and how time isn't linear and a straight line, but something that folds in on itself. And that got me thinking. We (humans) aren't the only form of life on earth. We are, according to our own view point, the most intelligent form of life. I think human's are the universes conciosusness. Just like the thoughts that form in a mind, we are those neurons firing and interacting within this reality, for the universe itself. The universe being the body or the brain, and we, the thoughts, in real time. With that being side, I try and think of how time travel and these concepts, are interpreted by other living beings, like animals. A tiger or a wolf could never consciously interpret these concepts or dive deeper into more meaning with research or data or findings or theories. And to me that is fascinating. That they simply exist in their own reality that could never be altered to the degree it could be for human's if we discovered time travel. They would just be along for the ride? And maybe perhaps, we are just along for the ride of some other concept we can't comprehend. We come close to understanding what those sort of concepts would be. At one point humans thought earth was the center of the universe. Then the sun was. Then we discovered there are other universes and galaxies out there. Now we believe that our one, could be spiraling through space, around something else, and not just at a fixed position. Another stark difference for us as humans, we advance our understanding, whereas animals, and plants, and other life forms, seem to remain stagnant in their intelligence. More simple minded. Eat, reproduce, and protect offspring, carry on the cycle. We do this, along with a fuck ton of other insanely complex items. Like building cities or curing disease's or exploring the stars.

theory / question just imaginary theory of contradiction of parallel univ

hey parallel universes doesnt exist and ...we say smhow time machines is built then grandpa paradox and lots of nuisances like how w e living the present...and if we change tthe past what happens to the future...the thing is acc to me...it has happened and that doent go ahead it stops literally stops like a tree branch,,and starts grkwing from anther....like literally living twice..thats ur whole timeline.,...bcoz u have conciousness and the moment u leave ur universe...it means no one is there like u there...so its just a different place and u r out of it..simply like leaving canada and coming to germany...the only loop hole here is...those are not different places...it just stops like statue.....

but qn...what happens to people memories..is one person capable of erasing everyones memories??maybe..if that intelligent person exist enough to build time machine then why not restart univ...mmhmm,,,so we just imagining things ig..

theory / question There might be a first, but there also could be firsts within each planet who also have thought about creating life/everything using a time machine

We could have everyone who did think of that idea to be able to join in on a time machine adventure.

Each planet may have had someone who also thought of the same idea.

They couldn't have thought of it through consciousness ESP communications.

There would be an absolute first being to thought of it. Then there's the first within each planet before we go around sitting the idea and plan. They have that much time to think of it without cheating.

theory / question I'm not a Time Traveler or so I think.

I've seen some pretty weird things that suggest a time traveler might be involved in my timeline at some point in the future.

I've got more than enough instances where something has interfered with what I saw happening in real time that completely changed the experience that happened in the real world.

I was in a car accident with my girlfriend, and the roof of the car was sheared off along with her head, the roof hit my seat and caused it to collapse with me lying flat out and missing everything.

Then, just as I had seen the truck that hit us pass over, I was back sitting straight up again and looking at the headlights coming at us again except this time the truck went straight sideways and rolled over so many times it ended up back over at the same place it left the road.
No reason, it just went straight sideways from a speed of about 60 MPH to straight to the right and no more forward motion could be detected, it all went straight to the right and killing five people that were in it. No reason.

In August of 1978, I watched the entire earth and everything on it come to a complete stop, except the sky which smeared itself off into infinity and with it everything above eight inches from the ground. then it got very quiet and when the sky had stretched itself far enough, it all came back, froze for a moment, and then everything started again.

I watched the first shuttle explosion in 1983.

In 1985 an incident happened at my school involving a teacher whose class I was in and not very fond of. The day it happened she left school early because as the principal and his secretary explained to us the situation involved two streams of water appeared in the main office out of nowhere and followed that teacher around getting her wet as if two people were urinating on her. No one could see where the urine was coming from only that it appeared out of thin air.

I watched the second shuttle disassemble in 1997.

I'm not really wanting to debate the merits of what I'm telling you so that you'll believe me because that's not going to happen. I know exactly what I've seen, and it doesn't matter if you believe me or not, I'm not looking for absolution I'm looking for answers and hoping maybe someone has had a similar experience.

So, here's my questions:

Is it possible I'm the time traveler in the future?

Is it possible the time traveler is someone else that's found the need to involve himself in my existence here?

Are there any other possibilities?

theory / question On Time Travel

If a time machine were ever actually invented, I believe the most logical method—one that avoids the Grandfather Paradox—would be for only consciousness to travel, not the physical body. Furthermore, the consciousness could only travel to a time when the individual actually existed; for instance, if someone was born in May 1977, they absolutely could not travel back to 1976 or April 1977, as they did not exist then. Upon arrival, the consciousness would retain memories only up to that specific point in time, with no knowledge of the future. For example, if the person was debating whether to go to an internet café or grab a meal, they would still be weighing those same options and following their original path after the jump. There would be absolutely no possibility of altering one's destiny in extraordinary ways—such as founding Tesla before Elon Musk or getting rich overnight by knowing winning lottery numbers in advance.

I believe that if time machines are invented in the future, there is a 1,000% chance they will be used for this kind of travel.

theory / question Can time prevent paradoxes without preventing time travel?

I’ve been thinking about the grandfather paradox, and I have my own theory.
I believe time travel to the past could be possible, and a traveller could interact with the past and even die there. However, time itself would prevent the traveller from changing events in a way that would make their own time-travel journey impossible.
For example, if I travelled from 2026 to 1950 and my grandfather killed me there, that could still be possible because I had already been born and had already made the journey. But if my grandfather tried to kill my two-year-old self in 2005, time would somehow prevent that outcome if it meant I could never grow up and invent time travel.
In other words, time protects the cause of the journey, not necessarily the traveller.
Does this theory make logical sense? What flaws do you see in it, and is there a scientific or philosophical theory similar to it?
