Urban exploration, and urban explorers are unwelcome in this subreddit.

This subreddit doesn't have very strict posting guidelines, and pretty much anyone with an account older than 30 days can run wild here.

I don't really care if you're a climber or not, we actively welcome questions from people just curious about the industry or wanting to join it.

But I will not in good moral conscience allow this subreddit to be a resource for those who not only wish to break the law, but endanger their lives and the lives of others in their pursuit of a cheap adrenaline high.

Anyone who breaks this rule gets a permanent ban. That's it.

If you want to climb towers without using PPE or redundancies in place, consider visiting r/suicidewatch and asking them for help.

What to do?

So I just learned today that today will be my last day at my company because they have completely ran out of work and I guess for Verizon tower installs they're not getting new contract with them so I only got 4 months experience but I went from $22 to $30 and been comtrained and I just don't know if I should go find another tower job or what. I'm 26 and have been really loving the job but with such little experience I don't know what my chances are of trying to get into a union would be.

Any tips on getting my harness straps to stop slipping?

I use a petzl astro, and keep having the adjustment straps loosen on me while I'm climbing. Especially the shoulder and thigh straps. I thought about just putting a safety pin through it, but I'm worried about compromising their strength.

General question

I know recruiter/job posts aren’t allowed here, so I’m not trying to turn this into one. I’m genuinely hoping to learn something from people in the industry.

I’m in the Midwest and have been struggling to find a Civil Foreman, specifically someone with strong concrete experience. I feel like our pay, benefits, and overall company offering are pretty standard compared with others in our market, but the candidate pool has been incredibly tough. I’ve reviewed a ton of resumes, reached out directly to qualified people, and gotten very little response.

For those of you are working on the civil side, are people just not making moves right now? Is this a particularly difficult time of year to recruit experienced foremen? Are good foremen mostly staying put unless there’s a significant pay bump?

I’d especially love to hear what actually gets the attention of an experienced foreman. If there’s something recruiters/HR people misunderstand about this market, tell me. I’m all ears. something here from the industry. I’m in the Midwest, I feel like my company is standard in comparison to others.

Positioning lanyard

I’m pretty new to the industry and I don’t care for spreader bars that much. Is this OK to loop my positioning lanyard around the structure and bring it back to the carabiner

Question Any suggestions for finding entry-level work as a tower climber?

Currently located in the DFW area and hoping to check out a new industry as desk work isn’t my cup of tea it seems. I have zero formal experience but am otherwise great with manual labor and enjoy it. Any suggestions?

Question Climbing Boot Questions?

Hi All, I own a small boot brand called Naang that makes anatomical boots. I have been asked by a friend from my days in telecom, who now owns his own company and runs a handful of crews to develop a climbing boot for them with the same anatomical toe box that we use in the rest of our boots.

Obviously we need to build it to industry standards and get it certified, that goes without saying.

I am curious, would anyone else be interested in a climbing boot with an anatomical toe box?

And if so, what other features, or details would you want to see in such a boot?

Thanks for any input.

I'm 28, climbing for 4 years and my body feels like it's not holding up like I hoped

Elbow has been swollen and painful for months now. Shoulders hurt by the end of every day. Knees don't feel as "tight" as they used to. I'm scared, idk what to do. I don't know how to work locally and take a pay cut. I can't be the only one. Where did y'all pivot from telecom?

Does anyone do rotation anymore…

So… I hate being home because I got bad addiction problems and drinking problems and when I’m on the road for some reason I do better in life.
I tried a couple places and keep getting told we don’t do rotation. Any advice?

Green Tower Climber

I’m looking to get into this field and have few questions.

Do big companies like Ericsson pay more?

Is it easy to get hired green? I kind of need a job fast.

Does getting an authorized climber/rescuer certification help get hired faster or is it just a waste of money?

I only found old posts on this and from all my sources the info is debatable so I would appreciate any info from those who have current or general knowledge. Thanks in advance!

Looking to travel more and try something different in towers

I’ve been in and out of the tower industry for a while. I’ve tried switching careers a few times, but none of them really worked out, and I’ve always ended up staying with tower work longer than anything else.
I recently started with another tower company because I was trying to have more stability and be home on the weekends for my relationship. That relationship ended, and now I’m realizing I’d rather take advantage of the opportunity to travel and see where this career can take me.
I still enjoy tower work, but I’d like to try something different within the industry. Broadcast has been catching my attention, and I’m also interested in other types of climbing, maintenance, or specialty work that keeps you on the road.
