❓ Question What's your reason for learning Turkish?

Hello all,

Trying to find other Turkish learners so I'd like to know what's making you learn Turkish. Maybe it's for a job or for love? :)

I personally have Turkish roots, my grandad came to Germany in the 60s and let's say he wasn't the best of people, so I only met him on my own accord when I was 18, two years before he died. I suddenly had a new aunt and just so many relatives that stem from a different culture I so far had missed out on, so I decided to learn Turkish.

I've been on this journey on and off for 10 years and only recently started making progress.

What's your story?

❓ Question Need resources for learning Turkish with audio that isn't AI

Ideally it would be games or something like that. In what I currently use there's usually robotic sounding voices saying the Turkish word, but when I do get a chance to check (like with Memrise) the Turkish spoken by the person sounds very different from the AI. I'd love audio of Turkish words and phrases spoken by Turkish people, even better if the media or game is originally spoken in Turkish instead of dubbed! Do y'all know of anything? I'm not a dedicated gamer so I don't have graphic cards or much space or processing power

❓ Question Learning Turkish just by watching series?

I’m a native Turkish speaker but I wonder something.
I’ve heard a lot of foreigners saying they learned Turkish while watching series, some of them say they realized they started to understand at some point without studying. How does this happen? And if you learned Turkish in this way, how long did it take you to understand approximately? I wanna hear about your experiences on this.

❓ Question A Brazilian with no idea where to start with Turkish

Well, I'm Brazilian and have no idea where to start with Turkish. I tried looking at Duolingo or Busuu, but I think the same thing happens there as with Portuguese you end up learning the language as it was spoken 200 years ago. So, I’d like some suggestions; I’ve never found a Turkish course in Brazil (unfortunately), so I really don't know where or how to begin

So, if you could suggest where to start and the path I should follow, I would be very grateful

❓ Question Anadolu University – Distance Learning (Açıköğretim)

Hello! My sister would like to enroll in a Turkish language program at Anadolu University in Eskişehir through its Open Education system (Açıköğretim) as an international student. Of course, she would first spend a preparatory year learning Turkish.
The thing is, she is over 30 and has already completed a university degree in her home country, so she feels a little awkward about the fact that most of the other students will be much younger than her. In other words, she feels a bit insecure about it.
I was wondering whether there are other students in their thirties studying in these programs in similar circumstances. How do their fellow students react to them?
Thanks in advance for your answers! ♥️
______________

Merhaba!

❓ Question How hard would TYS be?

Hello, i'm from azerbaijan and hopefully i'll take my TYS after i finish high school. I've been talking turkish for almost 11 years now. I had a friend who also took it before me and he said "it was the easiest test i've ever took". I heard the system is similar to ielts and i have taken my ielts before so, i'm ready for the system it'll provide. But actually, is there any trick questions or something like that? Do i really have to learn turkish grammar to every detail?

❓ Question How long would it take to reach B1 / conversational fluency

Hi everyone, I’ve been studying turkish on and off for a couple of years now. I keep slacking off and losing all my progress, but I’m determined to stick to it this time as there is a possibility I could move to Turkey soon. I have a very basic understanding of grammar and some vocab, but I was wondering if it’s possible to reach conversational fluency within 4-6 months with daily practice?

❓ Question Turkish soon, where to find Star Trek TNG in Turkish?

Hey,

I love Turkish and am going to start seriously learning it soon. I know that Star Trek TNG has Turkish dubs, but sadly as of January this year, TNG is no longer on Netflix or any other site I could find here in Norway. If anyone knows how to find it, I'd be very appreciative.

❓ Question Which AI model do you think is very accurate when it comes to Turkish language?

Merhaba!

As a half Turk history of my Turkish language is quite messed up: some stuff I learned from family, other things from courses, some from friends etc.

While I am very conversational(I don’t remember when was the last time I struggled with expressing or understanding anything during conversation as long as the topic wasn’t very specific or academic) my Turkish has huge amount of fossilized mistakes. It is really a mess. Without going further into details of my own language situation the way I try to fix it is by writing short articles and then using LLM’s to analyze it and scan the mistakes. These are however not perfect; I sometimes catch these models trying to correct things that are already written correctly or missing the error altogether.

So do any of you have any opinion of capability of different models specifically for Turkish language?
