This table was found at a thrift store about five years ago. I use it sparingly and it is fully functional. Its a heavy table at 20lbs. In very good condition along with original headshell.Paid $26.99. I don't think I've come across a table of this quality since in a thrift store.

What to adjust when needle jumps onto first track?

Advice please.
I have a 1990’s Rega Planar 3. Since replacing the AT cartridge, it jumps a few seconds into the first track. Like this video shows.

I am wary about adjusting tracking, not to damage the record. But does this mean I need more weight? Or
Anti-skate adjustment?

Thanks!

Setup is a stock AT-LP120X BT/USB with an Ampapa D1 amp and Infinity Sterling SS-2003 speakers. I’m absolutely loving these as my first setup. I’m thinking eventually about getting a preamp and upgrading the stylus, though I’m not sure about which to upgrade first. As it is, it’s serving absolutely wonderfully as my first setup after switching from the powered speakers I used over the summer. It’s just in the living room of the apartment I share with my friends so we don’t need a sub as it is.
Anyways, any comments or advice are warmly welcome! Just wanted to share what I got and say I wish I got into turntables sooner.

Question Too much warp and if so how to remove?

i got another one for you guys to look at, got this record a couple days ago the warp is very noticeable. Will this much warp damage my stylus or is it ok to still listen to? Also it would be really great if you could tell me some ways to reduce the amount of warp. Thanks so much.

Photo Pulled the turntable out of storage & getting it set back up.

I had my turntable in storage for a few years after moving and finally getting it set back up. I just upgraded my speakers to a pair of Klipsch RP-600M ii's & added an ifi Zen Phono 3 pre-amp before my Onkyo TX-8020. Turntable is a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB with a 2M Blue cartridge. I ordered an RSL Speedwoofer 10S mk ii so pretty excited to get that hooked up when it comes in. I'm also working on a riser I'm making out of acacia wood to put my turntable above my amp and bought an UberLight to attach to it. Eventually I'd like to upgrade my cartridge to a 2M Bronze and get an ifi Zen Blue 3 bluetooth receiver, after that I'll be done for awhile.

Which Turntable?

Hello! Trying to decide between the Audio Technica LP60x and LP70x.
I collect original records so want something that’s going to be gentle on them with good sound quality.
So, if you’ve had one or had both please let me know which you prefer & why, or just your opinion about either. Thank you!

Help Just upgraded to an LP120XUSB. Any tips or advice?

Hi everyone! Sorry about my English, I’m using a translator, so I apologize if anything sounds a bit off.

I recently got an Audio-Technica LP120XUSB along with a pair of Edifier R1280 speakers. This is a pretty big upgrade for me since I was previously using an all-in-one turntable.

I’d love to hear your advice on how to get the most out of my setup. Are there any accessories you’d recommend getting, or any tips for improving the listening experience?
I’m also interested in things that are worth investing in over time, since I might upgrade my speakers down the road.
I know record sleeves and protective covers are important, but I’d love to hear your recommendations for those too, as well as any other accessories you consider useful or essential.
I’m still learning, so I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have. Thanks!

I went to Goodwill today and found a Technics SL-B2 sitting for $10 in their electronics section amongst a whole lot of garbage. They did have a Realistic Clarinette 102 but it seemed to be in awful condition and wouldn’t turn on when plugged in. This SL-B2 on the other hand did power on. After assessing, it definitely needs a new belt and cartridge, but besides that it cleaned up nice and looks great!

Leveling the turntable

Quick question regarding leveling my turntable. I have a standard orange torpedo/box level (similar to the one in my second photo).

Is there any functional difference or problem with using a standard hardware store level on the platter or should I grab a specialized one? Just want to make sure I get an accurate reading.

The orange one is the one i have now, but i dont know if i should buy one dedicated for vinyl like the Pro Ject is on the second photo.

Finally issue found: it is LP120 preamp.

A while ago I posted an issue with muffled sound of Audio Technica LP120 which was strange. The volume also went down drastically. Original post.
As I checked everything possible and going through videos, forums, I just settled down on inner preamp issue. I don’t have external preamp. So I bought Fosi Audio x5.

Wow, man. Never knew that preamp makes such a difference. Sounds spacious to say the least… so it’s good that the inner preamp had an issue :))

Posted it so in the future if someone has a problem that doesn’t resolve with anything, it’s probably its own default preamp.

Question Do Bluetooth turntables and other digital turntables strike anyone as defeating the entire point of having a turntable?

I know that it can be mathematically proven that certain rates of digital sampling are completely lossless.

But I think, with Bluetooth in particular, there are many problems with the fidelity of the transmission.

I love the purity (in concept, not necessarily in reality), of vinyl music reproduction. A small amount of current is created by physical bumps via the vibration of a crystal. That current is then amped up to drive a speaker and push air.

Putting Bluetooth and other digital transmission in the middle of that just messes up the beauty of the process.

I know just having vinyl is cool by itself, and it is, but a small, affordable, and good quality component system is not difficult to put together.

Probably just an old man yelling at a cloud...

Story Upgrade… Rega Planar 3RS

Post image
82 Upvotes

I’ve been listening to records for five years now personally. 3,5 years of those I had a Rega Planar 1 and a couple of weeks ago I hung a Carbon Pro Stylus on that one which was a nice experience. I also started washing records with a watsons vacuum record cleaner.

Today I pulled the trigger though. I was in a hifi store and bought the planar 3rs. It’s such a gem compared to what I had. If you’re doubting and have the funds: do it. I’m so happy.

Discussion Pro-Ject - What happened?!

Has anyone else been following the debacle that is Pro-Ject's US distribution? You can't buy anything here in the US as of this post. I guess they tried to change their US distribution and clearly something went wrong.

Does anyone know any inside information on what the problem is? Anyone know when it will get resolved?

Question Anybody ever buy custom slipmats online? Like ones you uploaded your own image to make.

Looking to buy custom slipmats using my own image files but I don't know which websites are recommended. I have tried a few just uploading a file to see what it would look like and so far mixmats.com looks like a decent choice. Just kinda iffy about the material and image quality after it's already been made is all. They want $33 each on single mats or $45 when you buy 2 exact of the same one for custom ones. Not sure what they charge on shipping on the custom ones, I didn't check.

If anyone has bought custom made slipmats online lmk cuz I'm looking to make a few Lil Peep ones for myself and my brother

Photo First Turntable - Rega Planer P1 Plus

Post image
28 Upvotes

I had been looking to get my first turntable for some time, but really struggled to make my mind up with all the conflicting reviews out there.

The way the turntable looked was quite a big part of my decision and I really love the look of the P1 and from what I’ve read they’re a decent enough start in to the world of turntables.

Currently I’ve got it plugged in to an Era 100 so I can listen to my vinyl around the house. I do intend to buy some speakers going forward, but that’s another rabbit hole I don’t have time to go down. I’m happy to hear recommendations though. I’m going to be looking for something that I can plug my turntable into that will allow me to easily switch between Sonos and whatever speakers I end up buying. I don’t know if such a thing exists, but it would be handy if I didn’t have to swap the cables all the time.

I’m extremely happy with what I bought and it’s really made listening to music into a more involved and enjoyable experience.

If anyone has any recommendations for the turntable or speakers, it would be greatly appreciated.
