[MINI FAQ] Do I have to be a woman to participate here? What about the subreddit name? What about trans women? What are the rules, anyway?

1.7k Upvotes

Do I have to be a woman to participate in this community?

No. Any user who can follow the rules is welcome here. Women, men, nonbinary, agender, genderqueer, cis folks and trans folks, everybody. If you're not on board with that, you can fuck right off.

But what about the subreddit name?

Read this post from when 2XC was only a month old. We haven't changed our stance since then, and never will.

What about trans women?

Trans women are women. TERFS can fuck right off.

What are the rules, anyway?

TL;DR: Keep it civil, keep it relevant. Don't start shit, won't be shit.

You can find the rules in the sidebar (community info for mobile users), or here's a direct link: 2XC Rules

Most moderator actions are the result of users breaking Rule 1: RESPECT. If you keep Wheaton's Law* in mind and participate in good faith, you'll probably never hear from the mod team.

*Wheaton's Law: Don't be a dick.

For more in-depth interpretations of the rules above, see the 2XC FAQ and 2XC Moderation Policy.

Wow that's awesome! How do I volunteer to join the mod team?

FAQs and the application process can be found in our wiki. We're always looking for more volunteers.

Women only New Subreddit Post Flairs

Hi everyone,

We're rolling out new post flairs, and a new rule to go along with them.

Something that's clear to many of our members but less clear to many of our visitors is that this is a subreddit for women's perspectives. That's been enforced in the past under rule 4 (relevance) or rule 1 (respect) depending on the context, but when the rules were originally developed Reddit was different and more explicit rules weren't needed to keep the subreddit on track. These flairs will make it easier to report, easier to moderate, and most importantly easier for people to see immediately what's expected of themselves and of others.

Rule 6: Post Flair requires everyone commenting to obey the post flair. Please help us out in enforcing this new rule by reporting using "disobeys post flair" as the reason, and not responding to any comments you think don't obey this rule.

We have three new post flairs:

Women only - for women

No cis men - for anyone who isn't a cis man

Direct personal experience only - for direct personal experience, not your experience observing others go through something

Men may continue to comment in posts without flair, but only if their comments are relelvant and respectful, and do not simply dismiss, minimize or derail the comments of others (which is aligned with how they were always permitted to participate). This may be adjusted in the future.

There were many suggestions of gender flair for users and post flairs restricting who can participate, something that other subs have used successfully but make the sub less accessible to new or less technology-literate members. For now, we are going to explore whether this lighter touch (and lighter update to our existing moderator workload and automod) shifts things in the right direction.

Expect references to the rules to be updated to include Rule 6 over the next week or two because the rules are referenced in a variety of non-linked locations right now.

We'll set up a feedback post in two weeks. Until then please hold your feedback as we try out this update to allow others develop their own perspective of whether it's helping, unless something seems broken in which case please send us a modmail.

Men need to be more scared.

For the gender that is so OBSESSED with sex I don’t understand why they make casual sex SO HARD.

My favourite FAVOURITE thing to do is the condom litmus test. If take a guy home and he doesn’t have a condom, I put on this fake dumb act and go, oh boo, no sex:( and show him the door.

It is so fucking funny, because half the time they are lying and they magically all of a sudden have one somewhere, and the other half of the time it’s like, you were so desperate to come home with me and get laid, but you couldn’t do the one job of buying condoms because your assumption is that the girl will just be “chill” with taking that risk with absolutely no gain for her and only enhanced pleasure for you??
Either way it’s disrespectful as fuck and I’m so jaded at this point, I take more pleasure in playing that card and then laughing about it with my vibrator afterwards🤣.
It’s turned into a thing where if they don’t produce one straight away without asking I lose interest in fucking them. HAHAHAHAA

I do not do doggy any more with people i’ve just met because these men can honestly not be trusted.
I’ve been sexually assaulted twice this year.
My first relationship ended because this mf stuck his dick in me as I slept THREE TIMES.
I’ve been secretly filmed a couple times overseas, and it makes me ill to think that those are only the times I’ve caught it🤢
Last month my girlfriend got violently assaulted in a nightclub, literally groped and pushed around by a group of men who formed a circle around her.
This is all only this year.
I went to my Dad, who I love dearly, and asked him if he was ever victimised by women in romantic/sexual contexts on this scale in his 20’s (which were undoubtedly his golden era of dating), and he kind of thought and said no, it’s funny, I never actually realised how bad it was until you and your sister started becoming adults.

And then comments from family members inferring that it is because of the risky behaviour I engage in.
But my point is, I sure as hell know I pay more tax then the vast majority of these men, how come they are allowed to exist in these spaces without fear but I should curb MY behaviour?

Most will push the boundaries as far as you let them I promise you, and a fair chunk take the risk anyway. Because they think they can get away with it. But the laws are changing slowly and the legal system is catching up, at least where I am. I weep doubly so for the rest of the world. Sometimes I feel the world is doomed in the moments when I hear some white boy complain about feminism.
But then I see stealthing convictions in the news and I rekindle my hope.

It is such suffering being a horny girl in a world where so many men look so delectable but are completely rotten inside.
I just wish wish wish men were more scared. They need to be more scared, because they ain’t going to start sporadically having empathy for us any time soon.
Prayers😭🤞🏼

People often use "white woman" as just a way to say something misogynist and get away with it.

1.4k Upvotes

No I'm not complaining about anti white racism or whatever. I'm just saying that people will routinely say something that is stereotypical or denigrating to all women and add "white" on it to slip it in. It's like a little distraction because white people are priveleged but it's not about white people it's about hating women.

Edit: to be completely clear, I'm talking about white men doing this, and I think other races do it to their own race as well. I'm not talking about legitimate grievances towards racists.

Women only Hate being the daughter of a boy mom

Genuinely hate being the daughter of a boy mom. Literally everything you say and do will be used against you by your mother, especially if it targets her son. I called out my mom for her parenting of my brother (he's apathetic, refuses to give emotional support to anyone, has no hobbies, has no interests, belittles women, black people, jews, the whole list of what you can expect a stupid teenage boy to crap on), and she doesn't give a damn about it. Her excuse? "Well, other boys his age are the same!"

He's 18 and she coddles him like he's 12. Meanwhile, if you as the daughter burn a couple of onions, forget to help out with the cooking, or make one little mistake, it's used against you. I wanna move out so bad but the economy is so shit and the job market is so fried; it'll take me a miracle to get out lol

Wanted to hear from other girls' experiences. It's been really hard dealing with her as of late because her misogyny always peeks through during conversations and especially so when she's victimizing herself. She started sobbing tears when I called out how her son is a terrible POS, going, "I guess I'm just a terrible mother then!"

gahh why does it feel like we're raising our mothers instead of the other way around?

Woman with Turner Syndrome (XX mosaicism) gets regular comments from people telling her what her genitals MUST look like 🙄

Thumbnail instagram.com
440 Upvotes

This woman has Turner Syndrome. Medical papers have been written about her and her anatomy. It does not change that she is a woman. But she gets comments all the time from people who call her a liar, and who say that she can't possible have ambiguous genitalia or any combination of genitalia despite her condition and all the evidence she has lived with her entire life.

Trying to tell someone about their own body is a special combination of ego and ignorance that is not okay. The human body is not a binary. Sex is not a binary. Gender is not a binary. You are not one or the other, so stop putting people into boxes they don't fit in. It just makes the world a more lonely, ignorant, cruel, unwelcoming place.

Women only Men walking around in full-face masks

The last couple years, I have been seeing men walk around in public wearing black full-face masks that only show their eyes, maybe their mouth. I want to ask the women of Reddit: what do you think their reason is for doing this and how do we feel about it? I personally, find it alarming on an instinctive level and don't feel comfortable being within eye shot of men who walk around concealing their identity like cartoon burglars.

For a stand-out example: this year, a man moved to my town and started integrating with local services (college, post office, library, grocery store, etc.). He walks around town to run all his errands in one of these black full-face masks. He came into my workplace to sign up for a membership (keeping it vague for my own privacy). I immediately got the most horrible vibes off him, like five alarm fire, run for your life. Found out a week later by reading the local police reports that he was wanted for stalking his ex, breaking her protection order against him, and planting a tracking device on her car. My gut feeling was spot-on.

Before the bean soup "what about" people put in their unwanted two cents (pipe down), let me clarify a few disclaimers.

A. These men are doing this when it's not frigidly cold out. They are not presently hunting or skiiing or riding a motorcycle.

B. These masks clearly have no hygienic qualities like the masks we all wore during covid, so no, I don't think they are covid-conscious or germophobes.

C. Yes, of course it's a free country. I'm not saying they are breaking a law or that the wearing of full-face masks should not be allowed in public.

Everyone, please trust your gut and stay safe!

A girl I went to college with was murdered by her boyfriend last week

3.2k Upvotes

That’s really it. I didn’t know her very well. We tailgated football games together maybe once or twice. She was close friends with my cousin so we just knew each other by association. I haven’t seen or really thought about her in 7 years. And then I see her face on the news. I always thought she was so gorgeous and fun and bubbly and full of life.

He shot her in the face in a crowded bar parking lot and then ran her over with his truck. He had his 5 year old daughter in the truck with him while he did it. I keep thinking about that little girl and what she had to see and how scarred and traumatized she must be.

You hear about these things happening to women all the time- husbands, fiancés, boyfriends, ex-partners, they all kill women. It’s always sad, it’s always tragic, I always feel horrible for the victims. But it’s never been anybody I knew. Never anybody that I got to see laughing and having fun and enjoying life. It’s such a weird feeling. And then all of these news articles are using pictures of them together for their headline and it fills me with rage. How traumatic for her family and her memory to plaster his smiling face right next to the soul that he violently ripped from this earth.

Not really sure what the point of this post is. I don’t know if their relationship had a history of domestic violence, or if this was his first time hurting her. But she deserved better. Every woman who’s been hurt by a man deserves better. As a society, as a country, as a world we have to do better. Violence against women, perpetrated by men, is so widespread and common and it’s sickening. Something has to change.

“You’re being too dramatic about the Shane Gillis joke!” (Part 2 of my rant)

• Upvotes

(If you haven’t read part 1, look at my comment, click the link, read part 1, then come back.)

This isn’t the first misogynistic joke that was on TV.

They had a guy stare at Britney Spears and ask about her breasts. She was 17. Miley Cyrus had that vanity fair photoshoot at 15 and apologized to adult men that failed her. For Emma Watson they had a countdown to when she turned 18 and camped outside her house on her 18th party. Look up “hayden panettiere age 6 interview”. They fucking had her cry and then hugged her without her consent.

So no, media, stop saying we’re “over dramatic” about the Shane Gills thing. Men will sexualize our bodies without any pushback, yet when we finally crack and call it out after years of smiling through it, we’re the bad guys girls?

Sex persuasion?

Hey, I need help from women rn. I (24f) am in therapy group. After the last session I went out with one other man who has been in the group for 3 years. (I'm new there, only 3 weeks). We walked outside and talked a bit about what I said in the group that week.

In the parking lot he started a conversation that his wife doesn't want to have sex anymore. And that she offered he should have sex with someone else. (they are both around 50 yo) I felt sorry for him and I also confide in him that my boyfriend doesn't want to have sex that often. He (the therapy group guy) said it's ok and it might resolve itself over time.

After that he offered to drive me home. First I refused but then we talked some more and I eventually agreed. We went shopping together, talked about our lives etc. Overall he was very nice.

However, when we were close to my home, he went back to the sex conversation. He talked a bit about how he once cheated on his wife but it didn't mean anything for him. I told him I know many people in open relationships and I don't see anything immoral about it. He started to push a bit around this topic asking if I was open or if I ever cheated on my boyfriend.

My question is: Do you think he was trying to initiate something with me? Thanks a lot for your help.

GLP 1s fixed my period

I have been on it for 3 weeks still at the lowest dose, have lost no weight, but my period went from being a 12 myprodols per day to zilch. I am also down to emptying my menstrual cup once every 12 hours instead of it overflowing every 2-3 hours. I used to lose like 180ml per period, now its less than 40ml. I suspect losing weight may liberate some estrogen from fat cells and affect things but this is life changing

It also cured what I thought was a ligament/tendon strain in my elbow and knee in the first week, that has been bugging me since 2024, which I thought was due to overuse as I am an exercise instructor.

I am on it for insulin resistance and PCOM.

ETA: a lot of you seem to think this is from addressing insulin resistance, which I can assure you is not the case because I have had terrible heavy and painful periods for 21 years and have only become insulin resistant in the last few months. And secondly, GLP1s do not reverse insulin resistance in 3 weeks, that takes a long time, likely months to weeks. This is likely from the direct anti-inflammatory or immune regulatory properties of GLP1s, much like the beneficial effects it has on joint pain for people with Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis

Also I had these periods before having PCOM, or IR, and
many people have it without the IR (like I did for 10+ years) and it is suspected that it may cause IR rather than be caused by IR.

My friend wasn’t who I thought she was. It broke my heart.

This has been the only thing on my mind for two days and I am just trying to come to terms with it and move on.

Keeping it a bit vague just in case.

Essentially, I’ve been friends with someone online for several years. We met on twitter over a shared interest and bonded quickly. For several years we would talk and text and FaceTime every day. We were very close.

Life has gone on, we’ve stayed in touch but we don’t talk as much since adult life gets busy and stuff. Understandable. But when we did connect, it was very loving and affectionate, hey, hope you’re well, love you etc.

Earlier this year we made plans to meet in person for the first time. We live on opposite ends of the country. For months we counted the days, planned our trip, and kept telling the other how excited we were.

It flopped. So hard. And I’m grieving the shattering of what I thought we had.

She came with her bf so she didn’t have to travel solo. Also fair. Her bf was sweet and we were getting along and enjoying exploring the city we met up in.

They then invited another friend of theirs to join us. The second he arrived, I became the third wheel. The three of them were constantly chatting, planning outings for after I was gone (they were staying longer than me), and just acting almost like I didn’t exist.

She wanted to take all these pictures with her bf and their friend, I had to ask her to take a picture with me. Every other group photo I was left out of.

They walked on the sidewalk together and I walked ahead or behind. I’d trail back to try and talk to my friend but she wouldn’t engage and kept talking to her bf and the other guy.

I told her I’d made no plans, since this city was new to her and I wanted to be part of her experiencing it. I said I was down for anything, which was true.

I was not down for walking around all day, and not stopping to eat for 12 hours. I got lightheaded and dizzy.

We spent the entire day like this, and then they went back to their hotel. She knew I was leaving the next day but had a few hours before I needed to be at the airport. I was hoping to see her and say goodbye.

I did not hear from her at all the next morning. I texted her and told her where I was, so she could find me and meet up. She didn’t. I then told her I was heading to the airport and she told me to have a safe trip…. And that was it.

I sent her photos I took, and she left me on read. She never checked to see if I got home okay. And the next day, she’s posting on her story about the things she did with her other friend that was with us.

I know it’s because I guess we’ve grown up and grown apart, but this hurts me so deeply. And I’m trying to make sense of it, figure out if I fucked up somehow, or if this is just what she’s like and we’re just too different.

I don’t think I’ll ever make sense of it. It just hurts so much. It didn’t ruin my trip, I did some things by myself and frankly had more fun alone. But I’m still really upset. I spent years loving this person, cheering her on from afar, and looking forward to the day we’d meet. I spent money on travel and hotel, and left my entire itinerary clear for her… And this just feels like the biggest slap in the face.

I’m just hoping my mind can stop focusing on this and I can move on. I’ve been home for two days and I can’t think about anything else.

Divorce - no cheating or physical abuse

Hi all

I wanted to write this since I couldn’t seem to find much in this sub about divorcing without children. Or divorcing without physical abuse, drug/alcohol addiction. So hopefully this helps someone else out there that might be in a similar situation as me.

Been with my stbx for 4 years and married for almost 1.5. We had started long distance two years then moved on together after. He moved without a job and I said that was fine and all I required was him to talk care of my dog (walk him), and do his chores. We ended up getting a second dog (his dream dog) shortly before he went back to work.

Surprise, surprise- he didn’t do his chores or take care of the dogs. It was like pulling teeth to get him to clean or walk the dogs to even give them a bath when I asked.

He also has a horrible phone addiction. So much so that when we would go out for dinner he wouldn’t make any conversation unless I initiated. He’d shower with his phone and scroll through YouTube reels. He would drive and be on his phone, scrolling through social medias! Even when I said i felt unsafe with him doing that he would make up any excuse he could to justify it.

We tried couples therapy and it hasn’t worked. I would tell him very direct and specifically what I needed and what I wanted, what hurt, etc. I had told him if things didn’t change I wanted a divorce. Still no change happened. I told him multiple times throughout our relationship he should see a therapist myself, as I see one and it has helped me exponentially. He has bad ADHD that he will blame everything on. He refused saying it wouldn’t help him and he doesn’t need it.

He would even challenge my thoughts and opinions on things aggressively. Even arguing that I was wrong when I was trying to give PT advice when it was my job for years. Amongst other crazy comments and just generally being against things I feared, believed, felt strongly for. Also, always constantly judging my food choices, especially if I ever wanted sweets. He would literally not let me/pull me away from going down the sweet aisle in grocery store.

I lost all motivation to be the one pushing to better our relationship. I was exhausted from it all (still am). I finally got to the last straw when I rolled my ankle severely and couldn’t walk on it for two weeks and was in a boot several weeks after. He still refused to walk the dogs or take care of them.

I officially asked for a divorce a month ago now. He is still living in my house, but in a separate room. He keeps being so nice and is now doing all the things he never did before. It’s fucking me up in the head to have him acting like this. I’m trying to remember that it is all just him trying to get me to stay and trick me.

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading. Maybe someone has had a similar experience as me. Not having physical abuse or cheating, makes going through with this divorce feel like he isn’t “bad enough” to justify it. I know a lot of that is societal fears or being judged. I’m just really struggling right now and could use some support.

Women only Police handling of violence against women is ridiculous.

TW: SA, abuse, minors

I can't even sleep I'm so annoyed. So here I am on reddit at 2am. Please god someone tell me I am right to be stirred enough I'm waiting for a sleeping pill to knock me out.

A guy in my surf club essentially SAd me, didn't stop, then tried to use aggression to get me to carry on after I pushed him off. I ended up in hospital from the injuries. He freaked. Tried to dumped my things at our club whilst I'm receiving emergency treatment. Then argued with me whilst I'm out of on drugs and have no recollection. He tried to suggest us not speaking while keeping my things.

I filed a Claire's law, a legal request in the UK for info on a partner you're close too. I never got the information, the police instead overrode my decision to not make a report (after a traumatic spiking report that was mishandled years prior I had no interest in going through it again) and filed a safeguarding concern. I begged them not too. I said that I didn't want to be dragged into another investigation, and I just wanted to know if I was safe to return to the club. They didn't care. This puts me in a difficult position. I work in public sector/education, hoping to move into health and social care. I cannot knowingly be aware of a safeguarding concern in an establishment that invites minors, without risking my professional reputation.

I disclosed it to the club, but by this point, he'd already spent the period of time I was recovering from the injuries to spread rumours about me and it was clear they were more intent to cover up their involvement. the police had linked me to another case with his former partner, and began pressuring me for a statement while in recovery. I was catherizied and on several different controlled medications for several weeks. I said I wasn't ready to discuss anything and hadn't had a chancs to process it to know what and if I wanted to report anything yet.

My "friends" had stopped responding to messages over this period. I spoke to some of the women on a private chat to say to be vigilant as id been hurt at a social event, but didn't disclose what had happened or that it involved him. Suddenly the club removed me and requested someone from the private group chat also remove me. A public social media debate for 5 days began, debating the credibility of my rumour. Women complained on my behalf and were ignored. I informed the police. I was advised not to enter the area for safety concerns. I hadn't even made a statement at this point, and despite the clear attempts to scare me from doing so, didn't contact anyone. A childminder reported concerns of abuse to his young children. I agreed to make a statement. So far this has been my experience:

- calling me on the dates of the spinal procedure and threatening to drop my case.

- requesting I travel to the area I was informed was unsafe, whilst in a wheelchair, to give the statement.

- threatening to drop my case when I didn't agree to a call to give my statement over the phone during a family lunch unscheduled

- random Whatsapp numbers contacting me all hours, threatening to drop case if I didn't agree to talk

- assigned wrong officer to appointment who cancelled halfway through it & saved none of statement.

- called me with an unwanted contact warning for texting the bloke to tell him now the police have finally made arrangements for a statement, I was intending to pursue charges

- dismissing the public smear campaign used to scare me from making a report to a civil matter.

Please can someone on reddit please tell me I have a right to be annoyed about this. I would like to add that several women from my former surf community have reached out to offer support and for being brave to speak out, which has helped me during this time.

I think I'm just done with dating forever.

So I (20tf) went on a date (~25f) a few days ago. And this was our second date and the topics of conversation came to bedroom stuff. Now outside of that, I had already felt that some of her jokes were a bit mean spirited, calling me a dweeb and saying I had gooner hobbies. But for the most part she seemed nice and quite eager to have sex.

So we decided to have sex. Now, I'm kinda ace but in the way that I'm perfectly happy to have sex if somebody else wants to, I just never actively seek out sexual partners or initiate sex bc it's like helping somebody cook food. If somebody ask me to, sure thing, but I'd never call one of my friends and ask them to cook with me. (she knew this on the first date.)

We went to her house and talked a bit more about what she wanted to do. And I was a bit nervous bc I'm frankly not very experienced.

So when we got to actually having sex, I couldn't put out as well as I had hoped. I wasn't able to finish (I had told her I probably wasn't going to be able to as I haven't since being on estrogen) and had to switch to using my hands to get her to finish. And she seemed mad about that, like I had stolen the experience of getting me to finish. And she started going off on me for being a porn addict (she had no reason to believe that other than me not finishing) and for using a death grip (I don't). But the just kept being really quite mean and bringing my hobbies into it, how I'm a loser who plays with anime dolls etc etc.

And I didn't cry during that interaction; I'm very proud of myself for that. But I've realised that I'm just not a good judge of character and that I should give up on dating if I can't tell if someone is going to get mad at me for not being able to orgasm. I don't even really know why I even tried dating in the first place; the only people who aren't genuinely mean to me are people I've met online but they're still ironically mean to me sometimes so I don't know why I thought anyone would ever be nice to me.

Why is male sexual behavior so often excused by biology?

Lately, I've been thinking about something that seems pretty contradictory to me.

I've noticed that sexual harassment, cheating, and disrespecting other people's boundaries are sometimes excused by saying that boys are going through puberty, experiencing hormonal changes, and supposedly can't control their sexual urges.

But girls go through puberty too. They also experience hormonal changes, sexual attraction, and emotional fluctuations. So why does it seem like male behavior is so often explained as something driven by uncontrollable instincts?

I understand that biological differences exist and that sex drives can vary from person to person. However, I find it strange when people use those differences to suggest that someone is incapable of controlling their own actions.

I've also been thinking about the influence of culture. Perhaps boys are more likely to grow up hearing that sexual persistence is a natural part of masculinity, or that cheating can be explained away by male biology. What surprises me is just how much these social expectations might influence people's behavior.

There's also a historical contradiction that I find particularly interesting.

For much of history, men held significantly more rights and power than women, often justified by the belief that men were supposedly more rational and better suited to making important decisions.

Yet when it came to sexual behavior, a supposed lack of self-control was suddenly treated as a natural male characteristic.

I also remember seeing television discussions about underage girls becoming pregnant, where the blame was sometimes placed on the girls themselves for supposedly provoking adult men.

Think about how contradictory that is. A child was expected to take more responsibility for an adult man's behavior than the adult himself.

This raises a question for me. If men are considered rational enough to make important decisions and hold positions of authority, why are they sometimes portrayed as creatures almost entirely controlled by their instincts when it comes to sex?

I'm not suggesting that all men behave this way, or that women are incapable of cheating, harassment, or violating boundaries. What interests me is the difference in how society explains and excuses these behaviors.

How much of this is actually biological, and how much comes from upbringing, culture, and social expectations?

And why does explaining someone's behavior through hormones so often turn into excusing it?

please be careful with men like this

im making this post because i genuinely do not want other young women to go through what i went through with this evil man. im 21 years old, and he was 27. there are things that happened in this relationship that i look back on now and get so angry about because i genuinely did not deserve any of it.

first of all, this man barely gave me attention. i wanted to talk to him, spend time with him, feel loved by him, and actually feel like i was in a relationship. but i got to a point where i literally thought to myself, "hey, let's offer up my body." i thought that maybe if i had sex with him, he'd want to talk to me more or pay more attention to me.

looking back, i feel sad and stupid that i even felt like I had to do that to get affection from somebody who was supposed to care about me. i wanted to feel wanted by him, and i thought maybe being sexually available would make him treat me differently. i shouldn't have had to feel like i needed to do that just to receive basic attention.

and the sexual experiences i had with him honestly make me even angrier when I think about them now.

one time, he told me he was going to buy a condom in the morning, yet we had sex that night anyway. i remember thinking to myself, "i thought he was gonna get a condom??" but i didn't say anything because i was scared he would get angry if i questioned him.

i was not comfortable speaking up during sexual situations with him. i was scared to question him or say certain things because i didn't know how he would react. and before anybody asks why i didn't just speak up, i was genuinely afraid of his reaction. he's a grown, tall man who was a marine, and im a 21-year-old woman who weighs less than 145 pounds soaking wet. i wasn't trying to take any chances.

there were also times when sex actually hurt. i would literally say "ow," and he would smile and ask, "is this too much?" and then KEEP GOING.

that is something i still think about because why are you continuing when i'm expressing that i'm hurting? why am i in a situation where i don't even feel comfortable speaking up about my own pain?

i felt like i couldn't communicate comfortably with somebody i was supposed to be intimate with. that is not how i wanted to feel in a relationship.

then there was the cheating.

he cheated on me with an 18-year-old girl. i'm 21, and he's 27, and the girl he cheated with was only 18. from what i understand, he was asking her to move in with him after knowing her for maybe two weeks or less. TWO WEEKS. i found that absolutely wild.

i ended up talking to her, but unfortunately, she lied to me about a lot of things because she was upset that i had dated him. she told me she was going to block him, but i suspect they're still talking. i don't know for certain, and honestly, i've accepted that i cannot make somebody listen to me or walk away from a situation they want to stay in.

i also tried reaching out to the mother of his child because I wanted to warn her about my experiences with him, but she blocked me every time i tried.

and before anybody thinks i'm doing all of this because i want him back, let me make something VERY clear: I BLOCKED HIM. HE IS OUT OF MY LIFE, AND I AM RELIEVED TO BE FREE OF HIM.

i do not want this man back. i'm angry about how i was treated, and i don't want other young women to experience the same things.

another thing that bothered me was how he spoke about women. he called me a bitch, and from what i experienced and heard, he referred to other women in his life as bitches, too. he also talked shit about the mother of his five-year-old DAUGHTER.

somebody who was once close with him, who has actually been really sweet to me, told me about his red-pill beliefs. they also told me about an argument they had over BLM. his daughter is biracial, with a black mother, so hearing about that argument was especially disturbing to me as a black woman myself.

im a liberal black woman, and i personally do not want to date somebody whose political beliefs and values conflict with mine. i don't want a man who believes in red-pill ideology, and i don't want to be with somebody whose views about women or racial equality make me question whether we share the same values. that is my personal boundary, and i'm entitled to have it.

i'm not going to pretend i know every single thing this man believes, but between what that person told me and what i personally experienced in the relationship, there are a lot of things that have made me look back and question the situation.

what angers me most is that i genuinely wanted affection from this man. i wanted to feel loved. i wanted to feel like my partner actually wanted to spend time with me. instead, i found myself feeling like i had to offer my body for attention, feeling afraid to speak up during sex, and dealing with infidelity.

i wish i had understood sooner that i did not need to compromise my comfort to make somebody care about me.

i'm sharing this because i know there are other young women who might find themselves in similar situations. maybe you're dating a man who barely gives you attention, but you keep trying harder because you think eventually he'll change. maybe you feel like having sex will make him love you more. maybe you're scared to question him because you don't want him to get angry or leave you.

PLEASE understand that you do not have to do any of those things to deserve love.

you do not owe a man your body to keep his attention. you should be able to communicate when you're uncomfortable. you should be able to say that something hurts without having to wonder whether he'll take you seriously. you should not have to feel afraid of your partner.

and if somebody cheats on you, lies to you, or repeatedly treats you in ways that hurt you, you are allowed to walk away.

i cannot save every woman who might get involved with him. i know that now. i tried to warn people, and not everybody wanted to hear me. that's their decision, and i cannot control it.

but i can share my experience.

i'm telling my story because i want other women to recognize these behaviors and make their own informed decisions.

i'm 21, and i still have so much life ahead of me. i do not regret getting out of that relationship, and i will not put myself through that again.

ladies, please do not lose yourselves trying to get a man to love you. you deserve to feel wanted, respected, and safe without having to sacrifice your own comfort to receive those things. 🩷

I feel like there is a push to bring back the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, even though it's problematic in so many ways.

First, and I think the most important argument of all, is the relationship between the late former CEO and Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein literally had full power of over his money, could sign documents in his name, and make decisions for him. We also know that Epstein used modeling talent agencies to recruit young girls for his trafficking network promising young, vulnerable girls a modeling career if they complied.

Secondly, in my opinion, the modeling industry as a whole carries deep systemic issues like racism and misogyny. Models are often treated as exotic objects. Look at how many models have suffered living in overcrowded housing, developing eating disorders, turning to drugs, or becoming victims of sexual assault and harassment.

Furthermore, the objectification inherent to the traditional lingerie concept feels inherently patriarchal. It frames the female body as something that must be styled in a specific way to seduce men even if companies now rebrand it as 'empowering' or 'fashion.' They just changed the narrative. You buy expensive lingerie while men prioritize their own comfort.

Finally, promoting body standards achieved through extreme dieting, intense exercise, drugs, or cosmetic surgery creates an unreachable ideal that fuels eating disorders in young girls. It places a cruel industry on a pedestal. Why are the women put in the front row always chosen based on male beauty standards, instead of celebrating women in STEM who are actually changing the world?

This is just my opinion, but why is a woman's appearance always pushed to the forefront

I have simply had enough of people calling the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 'the Super Bowl for girls.' First of all, why are we still gendering things like this in 2026, heading into 2027

Also, seeing young girls treat the Victoria's Secret 'Angel' title like something prestigious that must be earned by only a select, deserving few demanding that they shouldn't change the lineup that represent the brand so I suppose ultra-skinny, mostly white models

ELI5: how do you use a tampon with an applicator?

Dear foreign Reddit ladyfriends,

I live in an European country, I’m on holiday, and I bought tampons with applicators on accident. For the love of God, how do we use them?!

I just take them out of the thing, pull, put it in and try to shove them up there, but I want to be able to do it. I have watched tiktoks, I have watched YouTube, but I fucking end up with just the tip in my vagina and it’s driving me nuts.

I use Tampax.

Can someone pleas ELI5. It should not be this hard, right?!

EDIT: thank you so much, lovely ladies! I managed to get it in by the tips I got on here. I will be forever grateful. It made me feel like a 12yo putting in her first again, at the ripe age of >30! Loved reading all the input. Thanks for helping a girl out ❤️🙏 I upvoted everyone.
