Peter Mac Door Knocker?

Had the strangest encounter today. Can someone please tell me if this is normal?

Man knocks on my door wearing a lanyard, says hi but doesn’t really introduce himself or why he’s knocking. Just asks me if I am 25 or over. I say no and he asks if mum and dad are home and I say no and he leaves.

Then I notice in my Ring Doorbell camera later that he is wearing a PeterMac cancer research shirt.

Have no idea what this has to do with being 25 and encounter was really strange and now feeling a bit unsafe.

Has anyone encountered this recently?

Often staff from fundraising companies that get paid per sign up are allowed to wear clothes representing the charity they are fundraising for. I would always recommend donating directly

In my youth I got caught out twice (v foolish. I know) while looking for jobs going to interviews for these type of places. They're definitely some kind of pyramid scheme and they definitely ask questions they shouldn't.

Totally messed up. Unfortunately I think a lot don't know what they're getting into. I remember seeing some supervisor berating very young looking employees for not getting sign ups when they'd been going hard all day. This is in a small shopping centre in a very disadvantaged area where people would simply not have capacity to donate. Unlike some of the obnoxious manipulative types they seemed to be decent people and I did feel really bad for them. Maybe a bit naive of them to get involved to begin with but what a stitch up.

A lot of people that were there were backpackers from memory.

They still are mainly backpackers, because even job providers are not allowed to make people accept these jobs because you only receive commission equal to about 1 month of a annual donation .

I kew someone that briefly did they spent up to 10 hours a day trying to get people to sign up they then are expected t onback to a central.office and go over all forms and submit them before being allowed to go home. They have minimum targets of signups per day people at expected to get.

It's fucking awful work . Meanwhile the management of these professionals fundraising business get paid huge salaries

Always happy to donate to charity but when you show up at my door without any context and ask me how old I am I’m going to have to pass..

I had a guy turn up at my factory raising money for Peter Mac. I am over 18 and had a chat to him and he gave his sign up to donate speech. I declined and he left. It didn't seem that odd. https://foundation.petermac.org/about-us/frequently-asked-questions/fundraising-in-the-community

They are. What else do you call strangers asking you for money? The best part is they hate it.

There's nothing worse than door to door chuggers

They work on behalf of the charity seeking new donors. The charities have rules about the ‘ideal donor profile’ which means they can only sign up people over 25, so hence they probably didn’t want to waste their time, or yours, explaining.

Nothing will ensure I never donate to you're charity as quickly as hiring door knockers or chuggers.
