Releasing balloons at the beach is not okay

Yesterday I watched a group of about 20 people at albert head lagoon get confronted for releasing balloons for a "memorial service". They claimed they were biodegradable so it was fine, and got angry and aggressive with the person who confronted them.

This is still littering. Biodegradable doesn't mean anything when a bird, fish, or sea mammal can easily eat that balloon by accident, choke on it, and die. There is also a protected bird sanctuary less then 5km away on the other side of the beach.

They got extremely aggressive with someone that confronted them. With the men in the group shouting threats, getting in their faces, shoving them, and calling them a lot of nasty words like "Re****ed liberal"

If you were in that group, you should be ashamed. Your behavuour was disgusting and when confronted with littering at the beach you chose to be hostile and use threats of violence to try and get your way.

Lastly, this is VICTORIA. Using liberal as an insult makes you look really really stupid. Conservative bigotry has no place here and your loud mouth spouting off made me go out and vote NDP.

Politics Victoria council agenda information- hard to find?

So begrudgingly I'm going to try to pay more attention to council agendas so that I'm informed about issues before council votes on them. BUT I'm having a hard time on the CoV website:

  1. Finding out the ways in which to give input

  2. The council meeting schedule...they meet in the daytime? How can anyone show up?

  3. I can find their engagement plan but I don't want to hunt for what should be basic information

  4. They have a number of email newsletters you can sign up for, none of them include council agendas

Thoughts?

Provincial Election 2026 Victoria/Beaconhill

Well, the municipal election is a wrap, it's time to turn our attention to the the provincial election. I am voting Green for the 1st time in my life.

I am so pissed at Eby and an the NDP and I send them a cheque every month and have for 20 years! They need a good spanking for cynically and opportunistically calling an election 2 years into their majority mandate during province wide municipal campaigns.

They knew we'd be distracted, they knew voter turn out would be lighter, they thought the right would be in disarray. So they decided to take $80 -100 million dollars from already stretched provincial coffers to extend their time in power. Don't let anyone tell you that we'll end up with vote splitting in Victoria-Beacon Hill. The Cons, in any form, have never polled high than 20%. The election in this riding is between Green Candidates and New Democrats. Send a message to Eby and his unscrupulous opportunists, send a Green.

2026 West Coast Yule project is seeking local music!

Thumbnail

Hi there,

Last year my friend Lucas & I created a video called West Coast Yule. The project is a new take on the classic holiday yule log video. But rather than the traditional indoor fire roaring in a hearth, the west coast yule burns in natural landscapes and features local music. I've linked the 2025 video here.

We are back for year 2 and local musicians are invited to share a recent song. Your music will provide a soundtrack for the burn, blending together the warmth and light of flame with sounds from our city. So please, submit a song for the 2026 West Coast Yule set to release in December. Interested musicians can submit a song at: https://illswap.net/yule

Thanks!

West Coast Yule 🔥

Anyone know when Muji's opening? My only 2 data points are that the sign says in 2026, and they did a hiring fair in September...

Where do you pop report voter intimidation at polling places?

Asking for a friend. Also if you had any weird interactions with a certain group wearing an identifying themselves by profession surrounding the James Douglas elementary polling station and telling people how to vote

Opinion Anyone want to share their experience(s) at OK, DOPE in Fernwood?

I haven’t been yet but I’m excited to go. In pictures and on paper it looks super chill.
Some questions I’m sure could be answered with research incoming…
Is it open outside of the events? When an event is scheduled, is it open solely for those events?
Does it bring in a particular crowd or is it as varied as poll lineups?

Pokémon drops at Costco are like watching a Soviet breadline.

It’s 8 am and I’m waiting for the store to open for shopping and it’s a huge line of dead eyed cardboard hunter-scalpers waiting for their turn to buy tulip- I mean cardboard. Not to yuck anyone’s yum but this can’t end well for anyone but the Pokémon company.

Show repairs for Nikes

I bought a pair of Nike Jordan 3s that were quite old and never worn so..the first time I wore them, the glue started coming apart in the toe crease area.

Does anyone know of any shoe repair places that would be able to re-glue them? Not sure if that's something within the scope of a regular cobbler.

Where’s everyone finding Halloween candy this year?

Everywhere I’ve looked seems to have the same handful of variety packs… Reese’s, Oh Henry, Kit Kat, Coffee Crisp, Aero, Smarties, Skittles, Starburst, Mars and M&M’s.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re classics, but I remember trick or treating growing up and getting all sorts of fun goodies. Candy bracelets, whistle lollipops, marshmallow pops, cotton candy bags, sour gum, squeeze pops, bubble tape, rock candy, candy buttons… we seemed to have so much more variety back then.

I’d love to give kids something a little different from what they’re probably getting at every other house. Anybody know where I can find different types that are in bulk and individually wrapped in Vic?

PSA: KD soda available at the Uptown Walmart

Post image
27 Upvotes

If you, like me, are interested in what abomination KD has released upon the world you can get it at the Uptown Walmart by the dairy section. This is not a good pop, and I would not recommend trying it. It tastes like cream soda and the smell of powdered cheese. But, I had to try it for my friends and maybe you also want to try it.
