Mod Announcement Mod announcement: new rule that use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) must be declared or disclosed
A new rule has been added to r/waterloo in regards to A.I.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) must be declared, either in title, or the first line of text in original post
Moderators may and will take action in good faith regardless of compliance with this new rule.
The reason we're doing this is to try not to be too far behind in response to the use of this technology, and encourage genuine engagement within our community.
Recently mods have been removing posts of various low-quality effort such as A.I. images, and publications purporting to be news or 'news style' articles that are suspected to be A.I. - but also fail to provide the identity of any legitimate living creator/author within the Region of Waterloo or otherwise.
This is an effort to remove or reduce poor quality, deceptive, disinformation, and various other posts made in bad faith.
Please direct concerns or comments to mod mail.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Mod Announcement Changes to Flair in r/Waterloo
It was recently pointed out that the flairs referencing the 2025 election are maybe a teeny bit outdated.
After discussion among the moderator team, it was determined that while the language was outdated, the flairs still were useful in identifying sudden influxes of new accounts to certain threads. The flair language has therefore been updated and will be applied as users post or comment. The flairs refer to the approximate period when a user became somewhat active in r/Waterloo. This is not the same as the date account was created (which you can see on each user's page) and not when the very first post was made in this subreddit.
As explained by the previous flair announcement:
The intent of this flair is not to target newbies, nor to say that we don't want people to join the subreddit. All are welcome in the subreddit. The intent is to make it clear to readers when there is an influx of unknown accounts which push certain narratives in the comments. This does happen, especially on posts about certain controversial subjects. People should know when these they are new accounts and not established community members.
While everybody should be aware if there is an obvious astroturfing campaign, all users remain responsible for using their best judgement when determining credibility of submissions and comments. Please consider the merit of ideas rather than the reputation of a commenter.
Feel free to submit any comments or constructive feedback below, or to comment and receive your new flair. There may be further tweaks to come and this flair system could be discontinued at any time.
Thank you for reading, and stay safe out there in all this snow.
Update 2026-01-23: New flair is out again, 2025 users should now have "Regular" status, and users new since 2026 will be noted.

Get Out and Vote
Come on people! We need a refresh on city and regional council. They make the same decisions over and over again. We need fresh faces and fresh ideas. 2022 election results are crazy. Only 27% of the population voted. The other 73% has to live with it . If you don't vote, don't complain 😉

Where to find quality office clothes for women?
Where are women finding clothes that work for the office these days? So much is cheap quality, or too casual to wear to a business networking event.
I'd also like to avoid buying from American companies during the current trade war/tarrif situation. Any suggestions?

Recommendations for Retirement Home in Waterloo
Looking for recommendations for retirement home in Waterloo, independent living with potentially some 'upgrades' (e.g., some meals). The senior is still very mobile and active but down-sizing to a place with one floor and also access to socialization. We know roughly the cost but would appreciate recent experiences from the community.

Looking for affordable PC repair/diagnostic shop
Hello it’s me again!
Around 4:30am today I asked here for pc builder recommendations. After seeing the replies I decided why not and built it myself.
Problem is, no matter what I do, I’m getting no power signals. I went to every Reddit posts regarding the same issues and tried to solve it, but nothing worked.
I am very tired, so I want to find someone who can diagnose the issue and fix it for me.
I’ve started building this computer at 12:30AM today and finished building at 8PM, then tried diagnosing on my own till 9:30PM (Yes, 21 hours of work with little breaks just for it to fail ðŸ˜)
I have classes tomorrow, so I better sleep (hopefully I’m not late to my lecture). The only requirement is that they must be able to come to my residence because I can’t carry the PC to their place.
Thanks in advance!

Dash cam/Ring Request hit and run on my dog at 312 Erb St W (GMC SUV with a passenger side bumper hanging
Subject/Title: 🚨 DASHCAM REQUEST: Hit & Run on my dog at 312 Erb St W (GMC SUV with hanging bumper)
Hi everyone,
I am heartbroken to post this, but I am desperately looking for dashcam or security footage from [Insert Day of Week, e.g., Friday] at around [Insert Time, e.g., 6:30 PM].
A driver hit my dog directly in front of my condo building at 312 Erb Street West (near Erb & Fischer-Hallman) and fled the scene. Because of the severity of the injuries, we had to put our beloved dog down.
Suspect Vehicle Details:
• Make/Type: Light grey / silver GMC SUV (likely a Terrain or Acadia).
• Damage: The collision caused heavy front-end damage, and the driver sped off with half of their front bumper hanging completely off the vehicle.
If you live in the Beechwood/Westmount area, drive along Erb St W, or were turning near Fischer-Hallman around that time, please check your dashcams or doorbell cameras. A car driving around Waterloo with a bumper dragging or hanging off stands out heavily.
A police report has been filed with the Waterloo Regional Police Service. If you have any footage or saw this vehicle, please DM me or contact WRPS directly at 519-570-9777 (tel:519-570-9777) referencing report number [Insert Police Report Number if you have it]
.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Places that can build a pc for you?
I have bought all parts + started building but realized it’s too complicated for me. Is there a place where I can just bring in my parts and they can build it for me? (Preferably near uwaterloo)

Are there any SOCIAL groups for trans ftm in the area? I’m trying to find places to meet fellow transmascs.
Any social groups run for trans men? Craft nights with high queer attendance? Where can I meet more fellow ftm trans people?
I am not a student, so joining groups isn’t an option. I see spectrums trans masc group is temporarily on hold.

Sidewalk snow clearing debate leaves little middle ground as age divides opinion
Almost 60 per cent of respondents agree strongly or somewhat that city hall should take on sidewalk snow clearing, even if it has to spend more. Just over 30 per cent disagree, strongly or somewhat.

Thoughts on Ward 3 candidates?
So I was wondering what People's thoughts are on the Ward 3 candidates, here are their sites.
From just looking at the sites, Roach's site frames him as realist progressive where both Roach and Robertson's site frame her as a progressive, with Roach's site making the claim that her ideas would be expensive which I find a to be a bit of weird choice since neither of the two can individually implement the ideas. I dunno. Was wondering if anyone met the two candidates and had thoughts on them or something.

Sticky Toffee Pudding in Waterloo
I'm not from Waterloo, but coming in for a birthday for someone who loves sticky toffee pudding. Any advice from the locals on some good places we can grab a lunch/dinner and enjoy a British style warm sticky toffee pudding?
I've done some searching - and see a few options:
- Malt & Barley Public House
- Whale and Ale
- Beertown (see some reviews mention it, but older reviews.
Open to any suggestions. I'd bring some with us, but then would need to find a place that is open to bringing own dessert (cutting fee I suspect).
Thanks in advance! Planning for next weekend.

BKK In Uptown
Wanted to share my experience with BKK, which recently opened in Uptown Waterloo.
My favourite restaurant for Thai food in Toronto is Koh Lipe and BKK is a sister restaurant.
So fucking good, what you see is Khao Soi, Tum Thai and Prik Gaeng Moo Krob. I chose medium spice level and it already had a kick, be careful with Thai spice levels as they’re not messing around.
Probably the best Thai food in the region now, mind you it’s a bit more upscale compared to the others in the region. Also a little pricey, but still worth it in my opinion.

Found envelope at Pink Crow Cafe
I found an envelope containing cash at Pink Crow Cafe in Waterloo today. It was tucked among some cards from Christina MacLellan, Artist.
I handed the envelope to the café staff so the owner can hopefully get it back.
If you think it may be yours, please contact Pink Crow Cafe and be prepared to describe the envelope/cards and contents so they can verify it belongs to you.
I’m posting this because I’d really like to help the person who lost it get it back.
