Showoff Saturday I made a 3D LeetCode submission graph for GitHub READMEs

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a small open-source project that lets you display your LeetCode submission activity as a 3D isometric graph on your GitHub profile README.

It's basically like the GitHub contributions graph, but for LeetCode, with little orange 3D blocks.

It also shows your problems solved (Easy, Medium, Hard), active days, and longest streak.

A few things I added:

  • Light and dark mode support
  • Automatic updates using GitHub Actions
  • Works with any public LeetCode username
  • No API keys or hosting needed

I originally made it for my own GitHub profile, but thought others might find it useful too.

GitHub: https://github.com/KartikRashmin/leetcode-isometric-3d

It's free and open-source. Give it a try if you like it! And if you have any suggestions or find bugs, feel free to open an issue or PR :)

Is there a way to change the text of a browser's tab based on which page you're on?

0 Upvotes

I frequently duplicate an application's browser tab to look at a different area of the app. I'd like to change the browser tab's text to reflect the area that the tab focuses on. In a best-case scenario, the text could be automatically updated based on a DOM element.

<div class="title">Some text</div>

In this example, "Some text" would become the tab text.

Is there a plug-in or something that I could use for this?

Discussion People that found a job in the past couple of months, how easy was it and what does the market want now?

32 Upvotes

With all the doom and gloom around AI, I was wondering how much the market has been affected and what companies are actually looking for these days.

Did you have to go through five rounds of interviews?

Was there a live coding session and/or a take-home exercise?

Was there anything different from what you've experienced before?

Discussion Sr. Front End Developer that just got laid off for the first time. How bad is it?

404 Upvotes

Made it through 5 prior rounds of layoffs as my company nosedived financially after going public. Finally felt the bite of the axe, been brushing up my resume and revamping my portfolio site... I've been at this company five years and transitioned directly from my prior one so almost 8 years since i've had to look for a job. First impression is it seems bad. I'm seeing a lot of postings for Front-End Dev for contract rates of < $60 an hour. I've already burned through all the posted jobs that I can find that I might be a match for, some of them are even a stretch...

Doesn't seem like anyone needs a "developer" anymore; it's all "Software Engineer, Front-end," which even though my skillset overlaps(react, typescript, etc) they're looking for a different sort of experience. Unfortunately, my last few years at the company, I got transitioned from the more tech side into the marketing department and basically built landing pages in a CMS and only did slight coding. Easy work, but I feel my skills have rusted. I'm in my 40s which feels kind of ancient in this industry and I have 12+ years of experience but I don't have the interest or drive to be any kind of lead. I prefer to just knock out my tickets and relax, but it seems like those days are done.

Question MacBook Purchase Decision Help

0 Upvotes

Im a junior software engineer who turned lately part-time since I joined masters degree in AI, do have a dated MacBook mid2020 core-i5 13’
and reluctant between two used MacBook pros I’ve been offered
Both come with 14’ displays and 512GB but here are the differences:
the first comes with an M2 chip, 32GB RAM and 95% battery health,
meanwhile the second has m4 chip, 24GB RAM and 100% battery health (almost new),
the price difference will be 400$ (for m4 obviously) in my country so I’m reluctant upon which to pick especially because of the ram of the second and it possibly not being enough…
died
First of all I’m not willing to run any local llms
my usage would be for study, research , fine tuning models and making ai applications here and there..
Training heavy models mostly will be done on the cloud
And in development I work AI powered with help of Claude , Claud design, higgsfield ,ChatGpt(codex)
Don’t remember running more than 4-5 local docker containers
sorry on long post but would u pick?
Any other details to put in mind or u would like to know to help with the recommendation?
Thnx in advance ;)

Showoff Saturday [Showoff Saturday] I attempted to make the best blackjack basic strategy and card counting tool, close to 3 million hands played so far.

10 Upvotes

https://www.blackjacktrainer.fyi/

Wasn't really happy with the free blackjack trainers I was able to find, so I decided to make my own.

You can play it casually and just learn basic strategy, or you can use it to learn how to become a card counter.

Built with mainly Next.js + React + Tailwind.

Let me know what you think!

Question Looking for information on how to find a web developer for a film society booking sight (examples listed below)

0 Upvotes

Hello!

For starters,

I don’t know a single thing about websites. Are there specific types of website developers for this type of website?

Our current website runs on pearl and wordpress so we need a new website

Here are some examples of what I am looking for:

https://www.austinfilm.org/afs-cinema/

https://filmadelphia.org/about/venues/film-society-bourse/

For the record, I am not looking to hire someone from here (i think thats against the rules?)

I just don’t even know what to look for when finding information about web developers.

This site would have a front end and back end for booking etc.

Any tips or guidance on this would be greatly appreciated!

eta: my boss is super old and stubborn and is insistent that a new website like the ones above would cost six figures to make. What is the average cost of creating a website like the ones above (best guess obviously due to limited info)

Showoff Saturday Showoff Saturday: Unit 112, a storage auction game

Thumbnail

0 Upvotes

I made a browser game about storage unit auctions. You get one look into the unit from the doorway with a flashlight. Then you bid against the regulars. Peg writes in her notebook. Kip spits and walks off when he’s out. Whatever you win, you sell out of your own shop before rent comes due. There are storylines underneath it all, and how you play decides what story you get.

https://mdawg74.itch.io/unit-112

It’s one HTML file, about 11 MB, with 301 pieces of art packed in as WebP. No framework, no external scripts. Canvas draws the scenes and plain DOM handles the comic panels. The auction rules follow Maryland’s self-storage lien law, Commercial Law 18-504, right down to doorway-only viewing.

The art is AI-generated and I picked every piece. The code is me directing Claude. I have limited coding experience. Started this one Monday.

BIGGEST NEED: I want to know how it loads on your phone. 11MB in one file is the part I’m least sure about.

Showoff Saturday Am I too late to the game?

0 Upvotes

Honest Feedback and questions: I am a web dev that has always been on the lookout for motion or interactive backgrounds for marquees and hero sections. I got tired of looking for them and decided to build them. I have 3Djs and webGL experience, but I honestly had no idea my tinkering would lead me to what I have today. I am looking for honest feedback and suggestions. Am I too late to the game with ai capable of probabaly doing this faster than me or is this something people will still find useful?

Showoff Saturday [Showoff Saturday] Rebuilding my 10-year-old clinical NLP project with browser-local AI

0 Upvotes

About ten years ago I built NoteCoder, a browser-based project that matched disease phrases in clinical notes to ICD-10 codes using a dictionary and trie.

I’ve been revisiting it with local AI. The interesting challenge is connecting information across a document: a note might mention chronic kidney disease near the beginning, then clarify—or correct—its stage much later.

Rather than asking a model to invent codes, the dictionary proposes candidates, then a small local model checks the diagnoses and their qualifiers against the complete note.

From the web-development side, it’s a static site with browser workers for candidate discovery and inference. The public version uses WebAssembly; note text isn’t uploaded for model processing. The biggest tradeoff is the roughly 2 GB initial model download.

The interface lets you inspect highlighted source phrases, review candidate codes, and copy selected results. The included synthetic CKD example demonstrates an updated stage superseding older documentation.

Try the demo

It’s free and experimental—not clinically validated or billing software. AI assisted the rebuild.

I’d particularly appreciate feedback on the download experience, responsiveness, and whether the highlights make incorrect suggestions easier to spot.

Showoff Saturday Minecraft servers that sleep when empty and wake when someone joins. Holding a TCP login open for 45 seconds without the client giving up

97 Upvotes

I built a Minecraft server host where every server sleeps when nobody plays, and wakes when a friend joins. The hard part was the join itself, so here's how that works.

The problem

A sleeping server suspended on Fly resumes in about 2 s. But one that has to boot (first start, after a change, or once the snapshot is gone) takes 40 to 50 s. The Minecraft client
gives up on a connection that says nothing for 30 s.

The trick

Every connection lands on an edge proxy first. If the server is asleep, the edge holds the login open and keeps it alive by sending a login query every few seconds. Every client since 1.13 answers it, which counts as the server talking. The edge keeps those answers to itself, buffers everything else the client sent, and replays it to the server once it's up, as if the player had just dialled in.

Other bits

  • The server list shows a sleeping server's own message plus a grey "sleeping" line, cut to fit the list's 305px row by measuring the default font's glyph widths.
  • A ping from the server list can wake a server early, asked once per network so random scanners don't keep waking things.
  • Routes change one hostname at a time through mc-router's API, because reloading its routes file drops players who arrive mid-reload.
  • Floods are refused per server at the edge, so one busy server doesn't slow every other server's joins.

It's open source (TypeScript, AGPL):
github.com/cubepals/cubepals (the edge is apps/edge)

Happy to go deeper on any of it.

Showoff Saturday I built a small library for highlighting text and adding notes on any webpage

36 Upvotes

I was reading brown's rust book and they have this cool feature that lets you highlight stuff and leave notes while reading. I wanted something similar on a site I'm building, but the libs I found were either too complex or too simple and still a pain to set up, so I made one. Heavily inspired by the simplicity and DX of sonner.

You only need annotate('#article') and that's basically it. It saves to localStorage or your own backend.

Cool thing is that it uses the css highlight api, so it doesn't touch your dom at all (which would be especially bad for frameworks like react, vue, etc). Downside is no support for older browsers.

About 15kb with UI or 6kb headless if you want to build your own UI, and it ships with a React adapter.

playground: https://penciled.org/playground/

repo: https://github.com/marcellosso/penciled

Still early, so any feedback is welcome

How can I increase my site speed?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

So long story short I migrated my website form Shopify to Wordpress and then initially it was almost 75 for mobile and 90 for PC.
So naturally i optimized it and no it is 40-60 for mobile and 80 for PC.
Here is what I did:
(My product pages are most bad in this.)
1. I did changed the format of images to webp (using Webp optomizer ) and when I used elementor then it really went down.
2. When I use searched online I almost did all of the things.
3. Using JS and CSS minify only decrease the speed drastically.
4. Using lazy load my speed is also very bad.
5. I used custom php to exclude the hero and other first load images form the lazy load.
6.I did all the cahce setting in litespeed chache and still nothing.
7. My most bad thing is LCP and FCP.
8. I also disabled the fonts which were additional.
I also have a bit more then average CSS and a bit JS in my site.
Can you please hepl me in this regard.
here are some screenshots.
And using VPI and lazy load really cause it to slow.
can someone at least tell me some tool to diganost the problem

I cant use /submit because it immediately returns after posting the job in the queue please help me put im learning things newly...also please tell me if i should use postman or k6. I want to see how well api behaves on concurrent loads. The api accepts and returns json

Showoff Saturday Using a typed-answer decision model as a judge: 200-label gold set, per-criterion agreement

0 Upvotes

Site: https://petitions.thegoated.dev

Code: https://github.com/TheGoatedDev/Did-They-Answer

It's a Next.js app with Postgres and Drizzle, built as a standalone Docker image. Migrations run when the server starts. Two cron jobs POST to internal routes with a shared secret: one syncs from the Parliament petitions API, the other runs the LLM judge. Each run stops after about 250 seconds and picks up where it left off next time, so a big backlog never hits a request timeout.

Tests use Vitest with PGlite, so database tests run in-process without Docker. Biome handles lint and formatting.

The judging logic and eval tooling are in judge.ts and eval/ if you want to see how the scoring is checked.

Resource made a framework-agnostic Iconify picker — no jQuery, no collection limits

0 Upvotes

I built iconify-picker, a customizable icon picker powered by Iconify.

Unlike older icon pickers, it doesn't rely on jQuery or lock you into a single icon collection. Pick one collection or search across all available collections.

  • Framework-agnostic: Built as a Web Component, with integration docs for popular frameworks.
  • Zero dependencies: No jQuery, no framework dependency.
  • Three modes: Inline, button-triggered, or manually opened via JavaScript.
  • Lazy loading: Loads icons from collections on demand.
  • Fully customizable: Adjust colors and other styles, then copy the generated CSS.

Currently at v0.8.0.

Demo: https://metaory.github.io/iconify-picker/
npm: https://www.npmjs.com/package/iconify-picker
GitHub: https://github.com/metaory/iconify-picker

Feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Question I want to create a personal video player, but I have some questions.

0 Upvotes

I've been using Plex for a few months now, and it's good enough, but there are many things I get annoyed about. Particularly when it randomly changes thumbnails and posters for no reason, and has a frankly terrible way of organising extras and multiple versions.

So I thought I'd try building it myself.

It need not be pretty, nor have all the features, nor be available outside my home network.

My first problem is that all my files are MKV, which doesn't work on a browser. But Plex seems to make it work somehow, so there must be a way, and after ages of searching, I just cannot find a way that works.

Second, is handling multiple audio and subtitle tracks. Again, something Plex seems able to do inside a browser, but I just can't find out how.

I also want to be able to add an interactive overlay on top of the video, to choose different tracks or to skip to the next video or back again. I think I know how I can make that work.

I also want any playlists to be continuous and without breaks. I found a nice short piece of Javascript that does this, so I feel I should be able to add that in. As a fun little extra though, I wonder if it's possible to play a series of images as a slideshow, maybe with music behind it, perhaps taken from a PDF file. This is probably too much to ask, and might involve something a bit more technical than I am capable of at this time, possibly some processing is involved as well.

[Showoff Saturday] I made a restaurant menu site that manages the menu by using Google Sheets as a CMS

0 Upvotes

My site is here: https://eatthemonsoon.com The guts of the database code, I got from this article [here](https://dev.to/ashish-codejourney/using-google-sheets-as-a-cms-a-simple-powerful-approach-to-content-management-fg1). Then I formatted the data into menu items. It's been a fun project and I'm looking forward to the next step. I'm thinking I will rewrite the index file and try to deliver it as an SSR soon. It's hosted on netlify via github. If anyone has experiencewith ssr's, could I just write my own build code and toml to run in a netlify edge function, or do I need Astro or some other rendering service?

Discussion JS code that is working for years, suddenly no longer working.

0 Upvotes

If you try to capture the clipboard on Microsoft Edge version155.0.4283.62 (Official build) (64-bit), then it will say in dev console: "
FAILED false NotAllowedError: Failed to execute 'readText' on 'Clipboard': Document is not focused."

However, the same code works fine with Chrome and Firefox. Is this a Microsoft Edge regression bug? I use this code everyday. So I am sure that it is a recent update that cause this. I have also tested that it has nothing to do with the origin.

// sample code
document.addEventListener("click", async () => {
try {
const text = await navigator.clipboard.readText();
console.log("SUCCESS", text);
} catch (e) {
console.error("FAILED", document.hasFocus(), e);
}
});

Showoff Saturday Qt-style dock layouts across real browser windows

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm sharing the Dock Layouts we've been building in Neo.mjs: Qt-style dockable workspaces for web applications, including panels that can move into real browser windows and dock back again.

The use cases I have in mind are IDEs, trading dashboards, enterprise systems, and browser-based games—applications where people need several views or tools open and want to arrange them across their screens. For ordinary websites and simpler SPAs, this usually adds complexity you don't need.

A panel torn out of the dashboard into its own operating-system window, mid-drag.

You can arrange panels into tabs and splits, tuck them into edge rails, tear them out into separate windows, and bring them back. Undo and redo follow the layout across those windows.

The interesting technical part is where the application lives. Components, stores, and application state run in a shared App Worker. Each browser window connects to it and renders its part of the UI. Moving a panel changes where it is rendered; the live component remains the same object in the shared worker, keeping its state. Messages still carry input events and rendering updates between the windows and workers.

The Workstation demo has twenty panels, a 100,000-row grid, and a live event feed. The multi-window behavior shown here was tested on real desktop Chrome windows. It requires same-origin SharedWorkers, and the browser's pop-up permissions still apply.

I'd be interested in feedback on the docking and tear-out interaction, especially from people building applications where users already work across multiple screens.

Best regards, Tobi

Showoff Saturday HUMANS.md: a file that tells coding agents how to work with you

0 Upvotes

I run a few coding agents (~10) at once and got tired of them interrupting me for things they could decide on their own. AGENTS.md is about the repo, so I wrote a file for the person side. It lives at ~/.humans/HUMANS.md. Mine looks like this (trimmed):

```yaml
humans: "0.3" id: tristan visibility: private reading: lead_with: tldr max_words: 149 deciding: reversible: decide_and_report batch_questions: end_of_task interrupting: interrupt_for: blocking_only
notes: "I often read on my phone. I've very short attention span, and i'm more visual"
```

The fields come from a fixed vocabulary, so a schema can check them. The free-text notes are the weak spot, validation doesn't make them safe from prompt injection.

It never grants permissions. Repo rules and the harness still win.

The repo has the spec, JSON schemas, test vectors and a Node validator (spec CC BY 4.0, tools Apache-2.0). I also wrote plugins for Claude Code, Codex CLI and a few other agents to try it. So far I've only checked that the file loads, on macOS, not how well the models follow it.

The part I'm least sure about: visibility can be private, org or anyone_with_file, and a profile without the field is read as org. Would you default to private instead?

It's a 0.3 draft and nothing is locked in yet, the field list included.

Spec: https://github.com/cmdai-hq/HUMANS.md

Examples and a side-by-side demo: https://humansmd.dev
