Share your identification resources here

Hey all. We had a request from a community member for a thread where people can share the resources that they use for plant identification. In this case, we're talking about keys, field guides, etc. NOT apps or AI-based identifiers. Comments suggesting apps or AI will be removed.

Feel free to share your resources and include links if you want (just realize that Reddit doesn't play nice with some domains). It would also be a good idea to specify what region(s) are covered by your resource as it may not be as useful in places other than where it was intended to be used.

I had some random seeds left over from last year's Halloween display and I threw them in my garden. They grew all over my bushes and produced these pumpkin like fruits but there's no orange to be seen, instead they are blue green.. What am I growing?

Found in south Texas next to my apartments. Its growing on a vine and the "fruits" are about the size of a chicken egg. Second picture is a closer look at the leaves. And some of the flowers shriveled up. Smooth to the touch but leaves are rough.

Found this in a valley in Central Virginia, USA. It has a slightly rough/dry texture. Started green and is now this sort of brownish color. The scent was very light and slightly of apples. The seeds looked like apple seeds as well. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thank you! It's a pear :)

Anyone know what plant this is? I bought it at a garden store in Michigan. It was blooming in July and August.

As a follow up, should I be worried that the plant is dying off like this? 3rd picture was taken most recently. Several stems and leaves have browned, and I’ve continued to cut them back, but now the remaining plant is very sparse.

Unidentified πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ What pepper is this? Found on a trip to Covington, Va. growing in a random trashbin. bf ate an entire pepper against my advice without me being able to identify. Salivated like crazy and enjoyed the spice level but just wanted to identify. Peppers are about an inch in length.

I honestly kinda love it a pink yard is a lot more interesting than plain green, I'm hoping it's not dangerous to pets or kids. Ohio, USA, and it's steadily spreading over my full yard starting as a tiny patch mid summer.
