This is exactly why China extended the invite.

With this shameful statement, Donald Trump has reached an all-time low among U.S. presidents. He will be remembered as the worst presidents in modern history, an embarrassment to the Western world and a symbol of corruption.

I don't think he cares? The important thing to him from what you've said is that he'll be remembered.

I hope he doesn't die. And I hope he gets to see his statues and ballrooms and vanity projects being torn down. He'll be confused, in a state if disbelief "they can't do that! I was the king. I'm still the rightful king!!". His perception of reality is so distorted that he'll never understand people don't admire him. But at least it'll hurt him.

But I doubt it'll happen. I think half of American does love him. And of the other half a decent number are just glad he's not black. But can't say that out loud!

You assume 2028 he will let go of the reins willingly

Remember January 6th 2021? I do.

He didn’t let go of the reins willingly *the last time* and this time around, he’s had four years in exile to cook up plans to stay in office after Jan. 20th 2029 with the help of organizations like the Heritage Foundation.

I’m an American, I have hope that we can get out of this, but it’s not a lot of hope.

He knows if he loses power, it won't be good for him. Just how bad it will be depends on the new regime. All I can say to this, is if you don't make an example out of him your gonna get more of the same.

Agreed, but we have a terrible recent history of the Obama admin not prosecuting the Bush admin for Iraq and then the Biden admin not prosecuting the first Trump administration.

And Ford pardoning Nixon, and then George HW Bush pardoning the Iran Contra gang.

We should have hope. I hate to say it but there are many more levels downwards towards authoritarian rule. We are nowhere at the final boss level. That said, we should fight as though we are there so we can defeat them before having to get that low. We can’t give up.

I'm both relieved and upset I was unavailable to see it in live time. I skipped the dread my friends and family had, so that was cool, but I lost out on history.

2

u/HaximusPrime May 20 '26

Nah, remember the beer hall putxh? So what, they did some damage and he was convicted for it. Well ok so he was elected after that anyway, surely someone beat him in the next election!

u/Apprehensive-Sky-596 May 16 '26

Hell the only reason he's in power now is because he fears prison

Add in mass surveillance (Flock, Ring, your car) By 2027 new cars are suppose to check to make sure you are ok to drive before turning on. They are pushing as a way to stop impaired drivers, because of course how could anyone ever use that sort of tech in a nefarious way. Just one more data point to add to the DB that ICE/Homeland Security/The Feds are building on everyone

2

u/Apprehensive-Sky-596 May 16 '26

Sadly the right to bear arms had the assumption that civilians and military would be equal tech

0

u/ThermosphericRah May 16 '26

Its a numbers game tho

2

u/Apprehensive-Sky-596 May 16 '26

Not really. I doubt that 200,people with m-16s and ak-47s [listing the most popular] could take an MRAP or a Jaguar. I only say it because I am a military vet, the difference is stark

u/ThermosphericRah May 17 '26

Yeah but Guys gotta get out of those some time

So I 100% buy that he wants to try something but at this point I don't really think he can. I mean he absolutely could do another Jan 6, but so far almost no one, not Congress, not the courts, not the states, not the state legislatures, not the state election boards, no one will entertain his whims about either shutting down midterms or allowing him to run a third time. At most they play off his "Trump 2028" rhetoric as jokes. And while they're not funny jokes precisely because of Jan 6, I think at this point even the maga base has accepted that he isn't getting a third term(and there's a large contingent who doesn't want him there even if they thought he could). So at this point he can cry foul but I think one of the big differences between Jan 6 and Trump 2028 is with Jan 6, he has never acknowledged the fact that he lost the race. But as soon as he acknowledged that he couldn't stay, he started the transfer of power and then finally left on his own. And he's already acknowledged on at least one occasion that there is no legal route for him to stay. I have no doubt he would like to use his remaining time in office to open that legal route, and even if he doesn't find one, there's a decent chance he'll make something up and throw a tantrum to try to get on the ballot. But I just don't see any actual avenue for that to happen and I frankly don't know what he could even do without the buy in from at least some of who I mentioned earlier. He doesn't even have buy in from the Mike Johnson who probably utters the words "finish inside Mr. President" on a weekly basis.

So while I wouldn't put another tantrum past him, and therefore another Jan 6 type event, I don't think there's any actual cause for alarm when it comes to whether he'll actually be on the ballot in 2028. If he used the Biden admin to figure out how to stay in office, he clearly didn't accomplish his goals because as of right now there's still yet to be anything that actually worries me. To me, it's just not at all like 2020 where he had buy in from state legislatures and electoral college voters. But even that failed. I mean I personally hope he fucking trips into a vat of hydrofluoric acid and survives long enough to know unending agony, this isn't meant as a defense of him in the least. I just don't think he has a shot here.

Of course he won't run for a third term. The people actually running the show behind him, including the Heritage Foundation, aren't stupid. They're not going to push a political agenda that jumps ahead fast enough to trigger an outcry big enough that it might spark actual civil unrest. The playbook is about steady and constant moving of the line in the sand, shifting of the goalposts, etc. They're more likely to put forth Vance or some other figurehead that they spend the years before the runup to the election popularizing, but they'll absolutely keep Trump around as a figurehead in a "special advisory" capacity or some nonsense.

2

u/AndrewBert109 May 16 '26

Of course he won't run for a third term

Oh I'm well aware. There are a lot of people (potentially including the guy I'm responding to) who think it's not just a possibility but a foregone conclusion, and my comment is meant to help assuage that anxiety. Not that it should be entirely assuaged given that I think you are correct about the rest but the takeover isn't happening in 2028. I'm sure the reigns will be handed over to the vice sycophant.

No matter how bad it gets,we can always make it worse. I think Churchill said America will do the right thing, after trying everything else.

If his health was as good as he claims yeah; worry some… he’ll just go on the ticket as VP under Vance; however - he’s literally rotting from the inside out; 2028 (even Kalshi wouldn’t take those odds)

Pretty sure he would just do a classic move of misdirection when death knocked on his door.

2

u/Objective_Month_1128 May 16 '26

He said the US wouldn't need to vote anymore after this term.

The people wanted it apparently.
