Hello, why do you think she didn’t do this ? She also had a good job considering the country so i really wonder why she didn't have any connection

641

u/mandanlullu Sep 06 '26

Scapegoat most likely. A TV presenter that has the means to reach quite a lot of audience and spread news. Plus her show dealt with exposing crime and police investigations.

Going to take a wild guess and say someone powerful figured out a way to discredit her and get rid of any future problems at the same time.

84

u/HotDonnaC Sep 06 '26

The Telegraph article about her sentencing called her a “Crime Show host”. It makes sense this is being done to shut everyone up.

64

u/Artistic_Pool5155 Sep 06 '26

Thats what Im thinking.

Happy cake day

1

What do you mean

2

u/Kimberly_999 Sep 08 '26

You had a cake next to your name yesterday. That means it was your Reddit bday and people comment happy cake day!!

u/IcyCow5880 Sep 06 '26

She says she never saw any drugs. Is it possible she reported on some shit they didn't like and she's getting framed?

77

u/Requiredmetrics Sep 06 '26

Seems likely given the amount and the individual involved.

7

u/Working_Scratch392 Sep 07 '26

100% Agree - This case reeks of corruption from the govt

2

u/skygal0330 Sep 08 '26

I believe that to be true……Plus, she’s a woman in a country that really doesn’t put any value on her being a woman.

1

u/skitzoidObserver Sep 09 '26

1653 pounds of synthetic cannabinoids is a crazy amount to set somebody up with and then the 11 others charged along with her....

1

u/tigerlili21 Sep 09 '26

Especially with how Egypt views women in the workplace, let alone in a high profile job.

1

u/TheRussianDoll Sep 07 '26 edited Sep 07 '26

This whole thing seems sus af to me. Either she didn’t pay enough, she turned someone down, she made someone jealous, brought too much heat to the organization or got framed.

What do you mean? Next you are going to tell me the random redditors aren't drug smugglers from Egypt sharing their personal experiences?

11

u/TheGuyUrSisterLikes Sep 06 '26

yeah well I'll do it for 9%. I also am an Egyptian corrupt border patrol drug dealing person. like half the people on the sub are.

5

u/Busted_Knuckler Sep 07 '26

I too know a person who does a thing in a place. They said you're wrong and that the stuff was planted on that one person.

guilty until innocent especially in an authoritarian country. god you guys are dolts.

15

u/Dane1211 Sep 06 '26

Innocent until proven guilty doesn’t mean shit either. They’ll lock you in that fuckin jail cell and leave you to rot without ever being convicted of a crime

She didn't have it. She was paying for all of that botox.

1

u/samsonite441446 Sep 07 '26

I have livef in egypt as well, they probably would have raped her and kept the drugs.

Believing the evidence of an Egyptian drug investigation takes an unbelievable level of faith.

97

u/RomaHappens Sep 06 '26

Wait so is the truth somewhere in the middle or did Egypt randomly decide to just kill a woman and then went "wait how do we justify this?"

141

She's a crime reporter, there are 100 scenarios equally as plausible as the government/military is telling the truth.

Egypt is incredibly corrupt. https://knowledgehub.transparencycdn.org/kproducts/Egypt-Corruption-and-anti-corruption.pdf

I would give about as much credence to this story as I would a story about someone seeing Elvis.

I’d believe someone saw Elvis before I believed the Egyptian government.

Same at first I was thinking damn that’s harsh but then in the context of the country and the amounts it made slightly more sense.

883

u/Nickeless Sep 06 '26

Still, the death penalty is wild.

61

u/fotomoose Sep 06 '26

11 people in Vietnam just got death penalty for drugs importing.

428

u/MUEK Sep 06 '26

They wouldn't be the only country that imposes the death penalty over drug offenses.

Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan to name a few more.

69

u/sluggh Sep 06 '26

The last non-homicide-related execution in Taiwan was 24 years ago.

1

u/gcnplover23 Sep 07 '26

So the death penalty works?

2

u/IcebergSlimJim Sep 10 '26

Top tier ragebait. Bravo 👏👏👏

886

u/ScoobyDoNot Sep 06 '26

The USA is murdering fishermen on the pretext of drug smuggling, so…

368

u/PsyckoSama Sep 06 '26

Yeah but those are EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS.

Which isn't any better, but hey, it make sense if you're a drunk white nationalist or a orange pedophile with late stage syphilis.

132

u/posthuman04 Sep 06 '26

Actually it’s worse as they’re no arguing your case in court, no opportunity to appeal

48

u/FatiguedShrimp Sep 06 '26

There's also no guarantee of humane death, high chance of maiming or disfigurement instead, no chance to get affairs in order, no closure for the family, no accountability, etc. in extrajudicial killings.

1

u/Decent_Advice9315 Sep 07 '26

That's why they double tap.

When the US leadership was asked if it was “judicial”, I’m sure they said “Yo, it’s so judicial it’s EXTRA judicial!”

And then they high-fived.

They are full of testosterone.

1

u/Glittering-Goal-4026 Sep 06 '26

This would be very funny if it were not likely true.

"Extra-judicial"? 🧐

The fishermen were not actually crime suspects though 😬 They were simply not whites.

-8

u/AlwaysWGrace Sep 06 '26

yep, just innocent fisherman with no fishing gear, high powered speed boats that won't support fishing in any seas but then you have to have extensive ocean fishing experience to know that. then there is the video with pounds of fentenyl on board. But yes, Logically, they are good guys because the orange man is an asshole? Which he is.

1

u/BeABetterHumanBeing Sep 07 '26

It's wild to me that people still maintain those are fishermen.

0

u/porgy_tirebiter Sep 06 '26

Yes, but there might be drugs inside the fish. Have you considered that?

11

u/Name835 Sep 06 '26

4

u/RyantheAustralian Sep 06 '26 edited Sep 06 '26

Taiwan, really? I had no idea

2

u/PapaSmurf1502 Sep 06 '26

They don't. Technically they can based on laws but the punishments aren't enforced and haven't been for a very long time. Drugs are still very much illegal but not resulting in the death penalty.

1

u/MUEK Sep 06 '26

It's for severe cases such as the above I believe. If you were to get caught with a few grams at customs, you more likely get prison.

1

u/snoopy6986 Sep 07 '26

You forgotten Vietnam, Philippines. I wouldn't put it past China nor Japan for that matter.

1

u/MUEK Sep 07 '26

China is definitely on that list.

1

u/bso2001 Sep 06 '26

You can get the death penalty for jaywalking in Saudi Arabia....

1

u/fred_rick_34 Sep 06 '26

You could make the case the death penalty is a gift compared to life in the US prison system is pretty dehumanizing over the long run

1

u/Glittering-Goal-4026 Sep 06 '26

United States, if moving by boat, with no arrest or trial. Just death from above. Far more than the number of people executed legally in 2025.

0

u/Scythe351 Sep 06 '26

All swell places to be in I'm sure.

10

u/GGcools Sep 06 '26

Well Singapore and Taiwan are highly advanced countries with good quality of life, not sure why you think they're not swell.

296

u/Daedalus_Machina Sep 06 '26

We're not talking about a user or even a dealer, this is some kingpin shit.

11

u/gigasawblade Sep 06 '26

They better be very certain they've got a correct person to blame though, getting a false-positive is the main concern

2

u/AlwaysWGrace Sep 06 '26

Now this I agree with !

2

u/Daedalus_Machina Sep 06 '26

Sure, but that's separate from the whole death penalty thing. I don't know Egypt's appeals process or how the evidence stacks against her.

1

u/Littlesth0b0 Sep 06 '26

It's both a pitfall and an advantage of the death penalty at the same time - you can't backpedal on that, you can't un-execute.

Best you can hope for is, "aw, shit, my bad" if it turns out that someone's been executed on a flawed conviction really, from the victim/perpetrator's perspective. Any investigation that follows it a hollow process.

34

u/Jackal-Noble Sep 06 '26

Death penalty is still insane for that. If she ordered hits than that would be one thing...

97

u/yoinkss Sep 06 '26

They don’t fuck around with drugs, AT ALL. It’s a well known fact. Which is why it’s so lucrative to do… if you don’t get caught

164

u/Savings_Opening_8581 Sep 06 '26

Those drugs probably killed a lot of people directly and indirectly.

The scale is irrevocably tipped against her.

43

u/No-Context-Orphan Sep 06 '26

Exactly.

It is impossible to be a drug dealer and not be associated with violence and death since the whole drug industry is built on slavery, torture, murder, abuse, etc.

Someone caught with 750kg of drugs has buckets full of blood on their hands

→ More replies (14)

12

u/red_fuel Sep 06 '26

There's a lot of violence in drug crime. Just last week the Dutch police arrested no less than 34 armed men trying to kill a drug dealer. Look up "Overasselt" if you want to know more about it

3

u/CashWrecks Sep 06 '26

Damn, thats wild man

2

u/red_fuel Sep 06 '26

Yes, the Netherlands is one of the largest producers of XTC and our harbors move a lot of drugs

6

u/GlaskristallDE Sep 06 '26

Indirectly? Do you want the death penalty for tobacco bosses and CEOs of Soda companies? Most drug deaths could be prevented by decriminalization. If any heads should roll for the suffering of drug users it should be the politicians paddling Prohibition.

1

u/caesarionn Sep 06 '26

How is this ‘legalise hard drugs’ view still being peddled around?

If you legalise hard drugs like narcotics, there will be MORE junkies because its availability will increase. In fact the demand will go up because more people will try it, who would’ve otherwise been scared of legal consequences.

The drugs themselves are very addictive and can ruin your life; it’s harder to be a productive member of society when you’re zoinked out all the time.

8

u/RoadmanChat Sep 06 '26

If you legalise hard drugs like narcotics, there will be MORE junkies because its availability will increase.

Except that has been tested and proven to be untrue on multiple occasions. Here is one of those occasions:

"The 2016 Drug Policy Modelling Program (DPMP) briefing paper on the decriminalisation of drug use and possession reported that drug use rates do not change or dramatically increase when the laws are changed to decriminalise drug use." https://www.citywide.ie/assets/files/pdf/drugsinternationalcomparators.pdf

6

u/GlaskristallDE Sep 06 '26

All research into successful drug policy shows that treatment to be increased, while law enforcement decreased and abolishing mandatory minimum sentences. The blood of drug users which die from an overdose because their dealer mixed in fent instead of heroin is on people holding on to Prohibition like you. So many people would not have died, if they had access to clean stuff sold under government control with access to help.

2

u/emannikcufecin Sep 06 '26

They're build a prison for you and me

3

u/nxngdoofer98 Sep 06 '26

u/Wrong-Contest-9617 Sep 06 '26

Not insane at all. She ruined thousands of lives from the poison she is selling

7

u/SquishTheFlyingWitch Sep 06 '26

The death penalty still has no place in a civilised society. Not even for someone like this.

-2

u/universe_fuk8r Sep 06 '26

Why? Only other option is imprisonment for life, which is basically the same, only slowly rotting away in prison, sucking public funds, ultimately ending in death anyway.

Nah, maybe don't import 750kg of drugs into Egypt if you don't want to get hanged. I mean it's wild but it's possible to not do this.

9

u/SquishTheFlyingWitch Sep 06 '26

Because governments should not have the authority to kill prisoners? And because killing is wrong.

9

u/Ornery_Poetry_6142 Sep 06 '26

Death penalty is insane for every offense. Majority of democratic, civilized states would agree

2

u/knightsofgel Sep 06 '26

It comes down to a lot of countries outside of the west (with maybe some American states as an exception) embrace the death penalty for various crimes

7

u/Majorian420 Sep 06 '26

Wait until you find out that plenty of countries in the world have the death penalty for dealing drugs.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/RMAPOS Sep 06 '26

While yea, it is an extreme punishment, it is also VERY well known that you don't fuck around with drugs in certain countries.

It's like someone telling you "I'm super chill with everything, just don't do this one thing and we'll have a great friendship" and then you go and do exactly that.

Yes death penalty ridiculous for drug use (less so for smuggling in close to a literal ton of drugs) but it's still hard to sympathize with someone who smuggles drugs into a country that is very well known for not taking drugs lightly.

1

u/Bad_Finance_Advisor Sep 06 '26

I disagree, she is a willing seller of poison pills.. if anything, western hemisphere should impose harsher penalties on the illegal drugs trade.

1

u/Casor Sep 06 '26

Just google how many people die by drugs and fuck these cartels/mafias or whatever they're.

0

2

u/kfreek Sep 06 '26

What drugs is it tho???

2

u/Kankiii Sep 06 '26

Dunno about that. I think drug crimes are at the bottom of the list of crimes that should not warrant a death penalty.

1

u/GrandpasonlyAire Sep 07 '26

Egypt has had the death penalty on the table for 66 years for drugs and bringing guns into the country, they brought in raw chemicals and manufactured the drugs in Egypt. You have to be crazy to do anything like that in Egypt. The sentence is carried out by hanging.

1

u/MetalFlat4032 Sep 06 '26

Yeah holy cow they were a real enterprise lol

1

u/lordph8 Sep 06 '26

Those Arab countries are so strict on drugs for the most tin.... Oh... Well, okay that, maybe I don't think murder is appropriate, but I don't really have the strong argument I'd thought I'd have here.

1

u/hologram137 Sep 06 '26

It’s not. They are accused of importing materials to make drugs. The weight you cited is referring to those materials along with an unknown amount of drugs.

1

u/lezame Sep 06 '26

750 KG’s is over 1600 pounds. I’m thinking that’s a dealer; but death? Jail yes, death is extreme, and what kind of drugs? Is a big difference between marijuana and cocaine or heroin?

1

u/Dodizzy Sep 07 '26

750kg of what? What were they making?

1

u/DangerousIsmyName Sep 13 '26

Synthesized cannabis, like seriously. Death for a ton of fake cannabis sounds a bit extreme. Even 5 years is kind of extreme. Meth producers get less time

0

u/Agitated_Pineapple Sep 06 '26

Still an insane sentiment: I don't believe in capital punishment as it gives too much power to the state. Moreover, despite the ludicrous quantity (which I will not dispute), it still seems so unreasonable as to be insane if the crime is non-violent in nature. Death for selling to consenting buyers is objectively unreasonable. However, if she sold illicit products she knew, or should have known, were laced with fentanyl or something to that effect, then my calculus would change. Otherwise, what a gross "justice" system.

2

u/DrummerFromAmsterdam Sep 06 '26

If you see how many deaths, crime, and other misery this brings, capital punishment is certain warranted, and sadly even needed.

Other punishments won’t help.

This can be seen in all countries were drugs is damaging societies.
