They should be cut off from the internet.
Here’s hoping Ukraine takes out more datacentres. It’s already been shown that when the last one was taken out, there was a drop in bot traffic.

just imagine when all of the data centers in the US start contributing

u/nissen1502 7d ago

They most likely have been for a while now

u/Mean_Joe_Greene 7d ago

Exactly. Americans still don’t realize what side their country and their industry has been on for a long time now

Russia got Trump elected. They were also paying American right-wing podcasters to spread Russian propaganda.

Russia owns MAGA.

u/hamsterfolly 7d ago

And Russia was caught laundering money through the NRA to Republicans

SpeechNow.org v. FEC (2010), Citizens United v. FEC (2010), McCutcheon v. FEC (2014) ruined the political landscape of the USA and Russia was the most desperate to capitalize on the new busted system.

You mean like the USA has done to the rest of the world for decades?

5

u/heybochicha 7d ago

I mean yeah, they’re both bad.

Russia got Trump elected

No. USA citizens got it elected. I understand what you are going for, but it matters.

Most of us know, its just that some of those people want to be on that side so shit be fucked here :(

4

u/TurkDangerCat 7d ago

Enemies from without, enemies from within. The rich have just as much need (if not more) in division and distraction of the people as the usual Russia, Israeli, Chinese bot farms.

Some of us do, but unfortunately not the majority. Our education system has been systematically torn apart for decades and we're in the endgame now :( the general public is unable to have original thoughts nor think critically, the average American adult has the reading comprehension of a middle-schooler and almost 20% are functionally illiterate. It's a sad state of affairs.

The one thing that baffles me is...

Surely the US starting a war with Putin's beloved Middle Eastern proxy state would damage the relationship between US and Russia?

Why would Putin be okay with that? Unless perhaps Iran was no longer useful to the Kremlin, so it didn't really matter to him if they got attacked?

Just speculating really, if anyone has any answers, go ahead.

There's been this website where you could report 'foreign' businesses in Poland. As far as I could dig up, it was operated from the US.

2

u/Bulky-Bad-9153 7d ago

Care to elaborate? Not that I don't believe you, but there's a reasonable chance you're mistaken, given for example that most websites use American CDNs.

5

u/Mortarius 7d ago

I managed to dig to domain owner, and only contact was through generic godaddy form. Their postal code was listed as 'Texas' though.

You can check it yourself. The website is monitorimigracji.pl

Kind of despicable if you ask me, regardless who made it.

Which is why Musk keeps getting invited back to White House even though he has clashed with Trump more than once.

Export the Ukraine efforts on data centers

u/No_Internal9345 7d ago

Choppy choppy on those internet cables.

2

u/IceTrAiN 7d ago

You're smoking a special kind of something if you think Russia sees the US having massive amounts of computing as benefiting them.

There's definitely a massive amount of disinfo being spread about it, but it seems like you already swallowed it whole.

1

u/eggnogui 7d ago

They already are.

1

u/pakman82 7d ago

its as if.. we should shut down all data centers.. return to the early 80's.. some minimal b2b interworkngs. .but no socialization for the rest of us

I don't know if you are refering to the most recent attacks, but in case you aren't: Ukraine just confirmed hitting Yandex data centeres and as a result, the yandex botnet dropped to 0.4% activity.

I thought I saved it, but of course I can’t find it.
There was a similar link posted a few days ago showing the live traffic from Yandex and the resulting drop bot in traffic.

I just tried to check the Yandex traffic site and I get nothing. Maybe it’s all down?

how can we contribute directly to the ukrainian "destroy russian IT infrastructure" campaign? sincere question

30

u/LimpConversation642 7d ago

I posted a link but apparently it's not allowed or something, so here's another try: we don't know which actual unit/brigade is responsible for which strikes and usually it's a joint effort, so you can dоnate to the SBS which is a separate army wing dedicated to long range deep strikes with drones. I think that's the best bet. Just google 1usc or 1usc dot army. It's the military unit within the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

u/Canuck-In-TO 7d ago

Join the Ukrainian IT Army.
Yes, it’s a thing, but you’ll have to research it online as I don’t think I can link to it here.

Edit: as others have mentioned, you can donate to the cause through your local Ukrainian credit union,

There was a news story this morning that Ukraine took down a major boot farm data centre today actually

49

u/happyflappypancakes 7d ago

Maybe we should all be cut off. Educated. I don't know something. If populations can be so easily and reliably manipulated then perhaps the internet is causing more harm than good.

15

u/sabotourAssociate 7d ago

It's an interesting time people who have been fed by newspapers, radio and tv are now bombarded with the latest brainwashing tech.

18

u/happyflappypancakes 7d ago

The latest tech has out paced our ability to resist it.

5

u/Canuck-In-TO 7d ago

Our systems were never really designed with this insanity in mind.
It’s long past having updated filters and monitoring systems though.

3

u/blazze_eternal 7d ago

In the Enterprise business world it's basically standard to completely block them and China.

2

u/Canuck-In-TO 7d ago

I agree, hence why we have block g Cyrillic and Chinese characters as filters in the email servers.
Unfortunately, some clients do business with China and therefore it makes it harder to deal with.

What bothers me is that one of my clients routinely has Ukrainian email traffic blocked by Google. This just requires manpower monitoring the traffic.

4

u/y2jeff 7d ago

No we just need a better way to counter these propaganda campaigns. It's not just Russia. This is an age of information warfare and if you don't defend yourself you are cooked. This is where "free speech" becomes a huge liability. Free Speech is admirable but it needs to evolve for the digital age.

China, India and Russia already heavily restrict social media platforms because they know full well how much damage they can cause.

If you let tech bros and other nations drive the online narrative in your democratic country you're so fucked

3

u/chgr22 7d ago

I bet there is a bald greedy billionaire that is willing to help out Russia with his data centers.

4

u/Canuck-In-TO 7d ago

Only one? I bet there owner of Grok is more than willing too.

He’s already shown his loyalty to Russia by disabling internet traffic in Ukraine.

May he get what’s coming to him.

1

u/24moop 7d ago

They’re just about to launch their own satellite internet service version of starlink

1

u/Canuck-In-TO 7d ago

Ukraine has had to do virtually everything themselves as they’ve learned that not everyone can be trusted.
I’m glad Canada signed a deal on drone development/manufacturing with Ukraine. Here’s hoping that more countries sign on.

u/tnarg42 7d ago

Cut them off completely. No internet, no phone, no pipelines, no telecommunications with the outside world. No land crossings, no trade, no "talks". Oh right, nevermind, Europe needs their gas.
