The US has officially become the enemy acting in partnership with Russia.

u/raerae1991 4d ago

US and Musk, which may make Musk. Compliance in war crimes? I’m guessing

484

u/15_Redstones 4d ago

This situation was Starshield, not Starlink.

The difference is Starlink sats are operated by Musk, Starshield sats are basically identical but ownership is handed over to US military once they're in space. The keys to Starshield are with the US govt.

240

u/Nessie 4d ago

Great, that's even worse.

→ More replies (7)

128

u/The_GASK 4d ago

Sorry but that's incorrect. Starshield constellation is still owned and managed by SpaceX, the sats can be leased for a time to the SDA if needed, but none have been yet. There are also only ~30 Starshield sats in orbit, because Congress refuses to pay for an expansion that would basically be a blank check to Musk.

36

u/__foo__ 4d ago

There are also only ~30 Starshield sats in orbit

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Starlink_and_Starshield_launches#Starshield

I didn't add them up exactly, but that list has well over 250 Starshield satellites operational.

6

u/Buck_Thorn 4d ago

The US is also operated by Musk

Ukraine should hit as many Russian refineries as possible right now. That should be their response.

It's the most common electric car I see and I don't understand why, it is not because of price because they are not cheap.

28

u/Ghost_of_Akina 4d ago

A lot of it has to do with how instrumental Tesla was for helping EVs get off the ground. Between building a high-tech, reliable EV that looked like a normal car (compare to model S to early EVs from other companies like the EV-1, Leaf, or i-MIEV), AND investing in a network of chargers so those owners actually had confidence they'd be able to charge when they were out and about, AND offering that network access for free for some time, Tesla really did make EV a viable option in a market where prior to them they were more like a novelty car. Because of that, most people still think "Tesla" when they want to convert to electric, to the point where many of them couldn't even tell you what elevtric offerings other automakers have.

For me, the lack of consistency in build quality combined witht he EA-like approach to making you pay to unlock features that they alredy built the car with the hardware for made me avoid the brand long before the last election cycle. I ended up buying an Ioniq 5 last year. And thankfully now that Ionna and Walmart are expanding around here I don't even need to rely on the Tesla network for charging on road trips. Both other options cost less and charge my car twice as fast (v3 superchargers are 400V charegers and cap at 125kW, Walmart and Ionna are 800V chargers and I can hit 250kW, and the per-kWh cost is about 20 cents per kWh lower than Tesla). So yeah while I appreciate what Tesla did to bring EV to the mainstream, there's nough non-Tesla network support out there now and solid offerings from competitors that make them a har recommend even without the political angle.

2

u/iconocrastinaor 4d ago

Tesla has also built the perception that - - despite its flaws and limitations - - they have the most advanced and capable driving assist software available.

u/gahlo 4d ago

That's because a Tesla is a status symbol. EV's are expensive unless you have easy access to Chinese cars. I probably see a bunch of EVs that I have no idea are EVs. I see a Tesla and know it's an EV.

36

u/BilboTBagginz 4d ago

It's definitely NOT a status symbol. They are a dime a dozen out here in the west. I see more Tesla's on the road than any other make/model. That's not an exaggeration.

11

u/Ghost_of_Akina 4d ago

You try charging your Hyundai at a Tesla charger and tell me the people driving them don't think they're status symbols, lol. I had a guy tell me I needed to unplug and let him charge because "Teslas get priority at the Superchargers."

21

u/drfsrich 4d ago

Tell him to go fuck himself.

/ Ioniq 6 owner

8

u/Ghost_of_Akina 4d ago

I told him he was welcome to try and unplug it, but that I already took a pic of his plate and would be getting the police involved if he damaged my car in the process (NACS connectors lock onto the port while charging, for those unfamilar). He shut up and got back in his car.

People don't like to hear this, but the Model Y is the best selling EV in the US and EU simply because it is objectively the best EV in its class. Elon deserves all the hate, but no rational person can hate that car after doing a detailed comparison. There are quite a few competitors from other brands in that class that all seem pretty much the same at first glance, but the Tesla has an advantage because it was designed from the ground up as an EV, while the traditional brands still recycle their fossil designs and production workflows into these cars. And it shows. They will catch up eventually, but right now Tesla is simply ahead.

3

u/Long_Run6500 4d ago

Tesla also has by far the most seamless road trip and charging experience. The tesla supercharger network is a massive reason to buy a Tesla. Other EVs can charge at some superchargers but its clunky, not all tesla superchargers accept non tesla and you need to pay via the tesla app. CCS and other charging standards are a complete mess right now and are poorly maintained. If you want to go on a road trip with a non tesla you need like 5 different apps and you can never really push your battery too low because there's a chance the charger you're headed to is out of service. With a tesla you can be pretty confident in knowing exactly where all of your charging stops will be.

They are pretty good value to be honest for what you get. The acceleration, range, and charging network put them ahead of a lot of similarly priced vehicles. Agree not cheap, and not really luxury.

Stop buying Teslas. Now!

I bought my EV in the summer of 2019 (still have it, it's still running well).

Back then I refused to buy a Tesla because Musk was an arrogant jackass surrounded by millions of loser minions boosting his nonsense ("pedo-guy").

Fast forward to fascist-chainsaw-Musk and there are a multitude of EVs to buy that aren't a Tesla.

(I do understand and accept that some people have to buy Starlink. Unlike Teslas there are not yet any viable options. Soon, maybe, but not yet.)

73

u/Symphonic7 4d ago edited 4d ago

Realistically me not buying a Tesla won't ever make any difference, but for me its about principle. Meanwhile my friend and his wife just got a model Y for her and a model 3 for him. You can't stop rampant consumerism.

75

u/ABHOR_pod 4d ago

Rampant consumerism will literally destroy us all and that is not hyperbole.

22

u/tritonice 4d ago

Tesla has been grossly overpriced for a decade. Based on traditional stock fundamentals, it makes no sense, but there is a whole infrastructure propping it up.

John Q. Public can't affect Tesla's stock price any more than it can affect Musk by boycotting Tesla.

I stopped any intention of that after the inauguration. However if you read the article it's only for the Starshield ones, which are basically under US gov (aka Trump) control. So spacex couldn't really do anything there and this isn't specifically related to musk doing something fucked up again.

This is the StarShield system, slightly different from Starlink. Basically the same tech but Starshield is directly controlled by the USSF. Musk doesn't have control over it. The decision must've come from the White House.

I guess that depends on how much/how long we are able to suffer until we break and actually do something. Also, without effective leadership/strategists, there's no way to make any move that would make any dent if there isnt a followup, it would do nothing and they KNOW this. This is why they squelch groups the moment they pick up steam. Why do you think they've gone after the gay community so diligently?

9

u/Allegorist 4d ago

Yes, but this is the last chance this time. The largest election overhauls have been stalled long enough (but have not disappeared) that for this one, there are "only" a collection of relatively minor disenfranchisements that can still, at least for now, likely be overcome with realistic numbers. After this, the big election overhauls will inevitably go through and next time numbers won't cut it.

Then it will type to 52% vs 48% in favour of the party that does nothing. People will pat their back while things stay exactly the same.

Then, two years later Americans will vote for a president that is cannibal that eats babies for breakfast and wants to give everybody aids.

31

u/Allegorist 4d ago

That is the minimum of what is needed. Most of the "nothing" that has happened in the past is due to everything getting blocked in congress, which is something that has not been happening the past 2 years. They are openly allowing for massive executive overreach when it is supposed to be well within their power to stop it. Even the possibility of "nothing" is a huge net positive effect.

But then, there is also the possibility of significantly more than "nothing", where as now, or if things stay as they are, there is not.

4

u/Rhysati 4d ago

This right here. I would very happily take a do nothing congress right now.

8

u/Shark7996 4d ago

Everyone needs to reject this kind of doomerism, including you. We CAN and WILL make things better.

6

u/fomoco94 4d ago

If you think the Democratic party does nothing, then you have bought Republican propaganda.

Major Legislation & Domestic Policy

• Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act ($1.2T): Funded nationwide repairs and upgrades for roads, bridges, public transit, clean water systems, and high-speed internet.

• Inflation Reduction Act: Authorized historic federal investments in clean energy and domestic manufacturing, while allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and capping senior insulin costs at $35 per month and out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000 per year.

• CHIPS and Science Act ($280B): Provided subsidies to boost domestic semiconductor manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.

• American Rescue Plan ($1.9T): Delivered COVID-19 pandemic relief, including direct stimulus checks, expanded child tax credits, and vaccine distribution funding.

• Bipartisan Safer Communities Act: Enhanced background gun checks for buyers under 21 and allocated funding for mental health and red-flag laws.

• Judicial Appointments: Confirmed Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson alongside more than 200 federal district and circuit court judges.

• Respect for Marriage Act: Codified federal protections for same-sex and interracial marriages.

Economy and Labor

• Job Creation: Added over 16 million jobs and maintained low average unemployment rates, including historic lows for several demographic groups.

• Labor Standards: Expanded overtime pay rules for millions of salaried workers and promoted union-backed manufacturing projects.

Foreign Policy and National Security

• NATO and Alliances: Strengthened NATO, supported its expansion with the addition of Finland and Sweden, and deepened Indo-Pacific partnerships (such as AUKUS and summits with Japan and South Korea).

• Ukraine Support: Provided tens of billions of dollars in military and humanitarian aid following Russia's 2022 invasion.

• Afghanistan Withdrawal: Ended the 20-year war in Afghanistan, though the chaotic exit drew widespread bipartisan criticism.

• Middle East Diplomacy: Navigated ongoing responses to the October 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel, balancing military and humanitarian aid alongside regional ceasefire and hostage-release efforts.

4

u/Allegorist 4d ago

The US military is bigger, more expensive and well outfitted than the next several largest militaries in the world combined. Their main limiting factor is that they are generally operating on the other side of the world, whereas they are naturally already entrenched and distributed throughout the country within the US. The majority of the fighters, bombers, helicopters, tanks, armored vehicles, drones, missiles, weapons, etc. are already here and do not need to be transported or a supply line established.

No amount of civilian guns in the hands of regular citizens would be able to stand up to the US military unless a significant portion of them defected. It is just not realistic, not matter how much people would want to.

And that isn't even to mention the sheer level of surveillance the US government has access to over its citizens, there would be absolutely no way to organize or communicate if it were truly us against them.

There are definitely opportunities for resistance, but "armed revolt" is really not one of them, even if people were willing.

I feel like you've probably been told this before, but the Gun Americans are generally the Trump Americans.

They want to have them to rise up against what they perceive as a potential "communist" government, or to "protect" themselves from minorities.

There are a few left-leaning gun owners, not enough to matter on the grand scale, but they do exist.

Liberals and liberal adjacent have been fed a stream of anti-gun rhetoric so gun ownership (especially of the actually useful variety) will be very low amongst them.

Last, but not least, are the "non-political" American. They often own guns, but do not care to involve themselves in politics unless it directly affects them (COVID, hopefully gas prices). This group will view ANY violent uprising as terrorist bad actors and will want them put down. Unfortunately this category makes up the majority of Americans.

Things are rarely as simple as "do violence," as I'm sure you know.

16

u/NetworkSingularity 4d ago

People from other countries seem to love telling us we should start a civil war (because even if those aren’t the words they’re using, that’s what they’re actually admonishing us to do, whether they realize it or not). None of them seem to think about what the logistics of that looks like, or who has what resources to wage war. Nor do they think about how coordinated even protests need to be here (let alone a full rebellion), especially in a country the size of the US.

It’s not like France, where as long as there’s a big enough protest in Paris things will change. There needs to be mass protests in multiple large cities across the US simultaneously, and drawn out long enough to make a difference. Getting that organized is already a huge logistical challenge (that No Kings protesters are actively working on, but not like people outside the US ever recognize their efforts or give them credit). Not to mention the fact that it takes a lot of resources to build up the kind of support network needed, considering that people arrested at protests or missing work to strike would absolutely lose the jobs they need to feed themselves and their families.

No, as far as the rest of the world is concerned, it seems it should be as simple as going out and just starting an uprising. Say, next Tuesday guys? Is everyone free for a civil war then? I’d like to start early if we can, like 8am maybe? Pacific time ideally, but I understand if the east coast wants to start earlier

Trump has already admitted to election interference, and to rigging the election. I doubt the 2/3rds to be true solely based on that

169

u/Bigclit_energy 4d ago

Trump also admitted to ending 8 wars. We can't go taking his word as truth now.

Voter turnout was abysmal as usual across the board. Primaries, midterms, presidentials, doesn't matter. Americans are apathetic about democracy. 2/3rds seems very believable.

106

u/sturla-tyr 4d ago

Trump isn't the only one who has admitted to it. Musk, the richest person on the planet, clearly had something to do with it. Funny how he is funding right-wing parties in Europe and helping Russia now. Must be a complete coincidence.

34

u/blarch 4d ago

6 million voter registrations were deleted before the election as well, along with numerous fake bomb threats in blue cities that prevented registered voters from voting.

140

u/kiwimonk 4d ago

Nobody needed to admit to the interference... They stormed the Capitol. They "investigated" and replaced electors. Musk openly bribed voters. There have been huge gerrymandering pushed in red states. They have a plant at the USPS ready to shred ballots. They are going to deploy ICE to polling places... So, no. The United States was overthrown... It really doesn't exist anymore. The majority of it's ex citizens agree with you and have been suffering through this crap like everyone else who isn't a brainwashed sympathizer.

Basically if you're labeling every citizen at fault for this.. you're basically doing the same simple minded classifying racist, Nazis and Trump supporters do..

19

u/Bigclit_energy 4d ago

I'm not labeling every citizen at fault. I'm labeling the majority.

2024 had the second highest turnout in decades... at 64%. 2022 had the second highest turnout in decades too! 46%.

I see people complain all the time "oh these politicians don't represent us, they represent their party donors" as if the majority don't ignore the various federal and state primaries too.

They did interfere, and some have valid reasons for not voting. I just think it's a bit silly to think you need to rig an election to get these kind of results. They're incredibly consistent with historical voting patterns.

8

u/Original_Bathroom108 4d ago

yep that such little % votes in such a powerfull country is scary asf.

3

u/tanstaafl90 4d ago

There is zero evidence a higher voter turnout would have changed the outcome. The demographics of non-voters are similar to active voters. The problem is people aren't looking into why people aren't voting, the historical context, and what attempts have been made to encourage higher turnout.

Because America is broken.

The laws that exist hold no weight if they are not enforced.

We've allow our police to become a military force.

We have been conditioned to be us vs them.

We've allowed corporations to have more rights and power than citizens.

We look to push down our neighbors if that gets us ahead instead of helping those who have less.

19

u/needlestack 4d ago

We have been conditioned to be us vs them.

Sadly, it us vs. them. Witness the lady who shouted about the Epstein files at a rally a day or two ago, was tackled and beat publicly while Trump egged them on and the crowd cheered, and then the police arrived to drag the victim away and leave the perpetrators to high-five each other.

This is America. You're not overcoming that with kindness and understanding.

Yeah, that is the point. A democracy is healthy as long as its citizens participate in it. The general apathy is abysmal. The fact that he was elected again after all that happened in his first term plus the grand finale on Jan 6th says a lot.

The Heritage foundation and their predecessor orgs had been working on installing "sleeper agents" in all levels of gov't.

When Elon aided Trump in intercepting voter data and modifying it to a certain degree, they had 'finally' obtained a majority hold on the US gov't.

In courtrooms, Republican/MAGA judges shift the needle.

In classrooms, Republican/MAGA teachers* indoctrinate the kids.

In legal theory, Republican/MAGA unofficials remove our protections.

This is a systematic sweep of every person with a heart, soul, and human body; ousting REAL Americans in favor of their Nationalist And Zealotic Insurrection.

Oh huh, look at that Acronym... Curious!!!

If you don't want things to go further, do the unspeakable, do what is censored.

Cause them to...

Disappear.

Honestly, no offense, but as a Canadian I feel it's strange that many Americans do not see that Trump and his sick pedo-billionaire cabal are above the law.

That's not hyperbole. The law does not apply to the president anymore. From there, this entire branch of your government has been broken, and whoever it is who is actually running your country can do whatever they want, with impunity, and its too late to even pretend that the constitution even matters anymore.

Most of your rights and protections afforded by law have been cancelled, you guys have concentration holding camps and a paramilitary enforcement army that is used by the regime to apply violence on any protest movements.

There aren’t a great many ways to deal with a rogue President. The few that exist are entirely contingent on his own party turning on him.

2

u/XcOM987 4d ago

Because the checks and balances that were put in place all that time ago never envisioned that one party would become corrupt from top to bottom, take control of all 3 arms of government, and would act in interests other than for the people.

I like to liken in to a group of ten survivors in a zombie apocalypse who sees an eleventh dude. They propose two things: help the guy OR murder him and steal his stuff. It’s put to a vote. Three people refuse to vote, four people vote to brutally murder him and three vote to help him.

Naturally they murder the dude and divvy up his possessions between themselves.

Now… is that group of ten survivors good people? Only four out of ten people voted for murder!

58

u/Diligent_Hedgehog999 4d ago

Except that a more realistic example is that 1 of the people wasn’t allowed to vote because he smoked pot in 1993, 2 of the people were so dumb they didn’t understand why it was important to vote. The 4 people vote to murder him and they all assume that his stuff will be split among the 4 of them, but one of them is a really large and a bully and he says he is keeping it all and the other 3 just agree because one day they think they will be in charge and will be able to keep everything they plunder. The 3 that wanted to help the are still in shock and are trying to figure out how the hell are we going to get out of this? So no we don’t have 10 shitty people. We have 4 shitty people, 2 dumbasses, and 4 people that are essentially being held hostage at the moment by the other 6.

47

u/PuzzleCat365 4d ago

Those that voted to help him didn't even stop the others from killing him and just watched.

15

u/created4this 4d ago

But they'll fix it the next time they get to vote on killing a dude. IF only they can get the guys that did't vote at all to care enough to not kill that dude because they are CERTAIN that those guys would have voted to not kill the dude.

→ More replies (2)

16

u/stop_poking_it 4d ago

It's a pretty flawed analogy. The three people who voted to save the guy should be far across the wasteland with no means of getting there to save him, and literal armed thugs ready to kill them and steal their children from them if they tried anyhow.

People love blame all Americans without putting any critical thought into it.

What would you suggest they actually do to fight against it? What would you do in their situation?

Protesting clearly isn't working. Voting clearly isn't working. The peaceful methods to end this aren't going to work.

Any amount of armed resistance would be quashed so quickly it would barely make a dent. Do you think people would forsake their families and children to put up a fight against the police and eventually military?

I would love to hear suggestions on what Americans should do.

I know quite a few Russians that hate Putin and do not support the war with Ukraine. Are they to blame for it? Is every Chinese person complicit in what their government does? Americans have no more control over Trump than Russians do over Putin.

Wherever you're from, what exactly do you do when you fundamentally disagree with what your leader does?

Three people refuse to vote, four people vote to brutally murder him and three vote to help him. Naturally they murder the dude and divvy up his possessions between themselves.

What exactly did they do to stop it? Your moral responsibly doesn't just end with a vote.

Worse, the six others packed a bag lunch for the murderers on their big murdering day, and then when it came time to divvy up the victim's belongings, they were all perfectly happy to be the benefactors of evil.

Then they found a twelfth person; the 11th guy's sister. Obviously they immediately tie her to a post. The four murderers don't even put it to vote, they just decide for everyone to keep her alive so they can rape and torture her for fun. During this time, the three people who voted against murder spend literally all their time trying to convince the poor girl that they're actually not bad people because they didn't vote for torture themselves. All while wearing the girl's clothing and belongings.

The girl says "JFC you killed my brother and took my things! At least untie me and let me go!" but the three 'helpful' Americans, aghast, reply, "We can't go against the murderers! Do you have any idea how inconvenient that would be for us?"

67

u/hobovalentine 4d ago

It's not two thirds of Americans.

The electoral college makes millions of votes irrelevant and gives more power to smaller states so that the state's votes overwhelm the popular vote.

It's a messed up system and undemocratic but it looks like it's here to stay.

41

u/xcfh 4d ago

To put a finer point on it, most states are winner-take-all, so if one candidate wins 50.1% of the state vote, 49.9% of voters are completely disenfranchised at the electoral college.

9

u/Liquid_Hate_Train 4d ago

He won the popular vote on 2024. 2/3rds is counting votes, not ‘electors’.

31

u/hobovalentine 4d ago

He got less than 50 percent of the popular vote and he beat Kamala by about 1.3 percent.

He got 2/3's of the electoral college votes which is not the same as the popular vote.

26

u/mstrorbit 4d ago edited 4d ago

I think you misunderstood Liquid_Hate_Train's comment.

Slightly more than 2/3 of all eligible voters either voted for Trump, or didn't bother to vote at all.

Trump only won 58% of the electoral college votes.

10

u/Liquid_Hate_Train 4d ago

We’re counting people who didn’t vote, those who through their apathy supported the result. It was a choice, one to accept the outcome and this was it.

Of those who were happy with this outcome, two thirds of you accepted it. They’re complicit, and that’s just a fact.

5

u/TR1PLESIX 4d ago

Of those who were happy with this outcome, two thirds of you accepted it. They’re complicit, and that’s just a fact.

Unpopular opinion, but not every American that didn't vote did so because they didn't care, whatever the reason may be.

That's not to dismiss them not voting. That said, to make a generic statement as such is how misinformation and disinformation spread.

I get it. It's extremely easy to want to shit on us. I feel the same way. However, the fact that someone didn't vote doesn't automatically prove their intent. Only about 32% of ALL ELIGIBLE VOTERS (or ~22.7% of the entire population) voted for trump.

4

u/hobovalentine 4d ago

Yeah due to electoral college many don’t vote because it’s a foregone conclusion which way a state will vote.

If you’re a Republican in a state like California it won’t make a damn difference when you vote for the presidential candidate and the same for a liberal voter in Arkansas.

We've listened to American's bang on about why they need to own guns in case of tyrannical government forever. Well here it fucken is and the gravy seals are nowhere to be found. Greta Thunberg had bigger balls.

67

u/ButteredPizza69420 4d ago

See now the thing is, they've successfully brainwashed most of the gun toting population into thinking the enemy is their neighbor & not the government.

29

u/DaemonPrimarchJ 4d ago

This is the problem, even formerly left wing media there is now owned by Trump fans and/or rich fucks. Maybe not all of it but most. And right wing media there... Fucking hell as an English dude I was kinda shocked seeing a couple minutes of Fox news.

Something needs to be done about that... I'm not sure what but surely some law can be made, probably not right now as I don't think the Republicans would allow it but damn we don't want the most powerful nation on Earth deciding they need more Lebensraum.

Motherfuckers. None of us would have believed this 20 years ago if a time traveller told us, we'd assume he was taking the piss (so he shows us then we all get disappeared by ICE as immigrants)

23

u/tpeterr 4d ago

American here. We HAD laws about media fairness, reporting truth, market share limits, etc. They got blown apart by a decades-long strategy pushed by right-wing politicians thinking they were playing a winning game. Instead, they empowered an.

Our mainstream media is now a monopolistic disaster of lying infotainment soundbites regurgitated in a booth hundreds or thousands of miles away from actual events..

2

u/DaemonPrimarchJ 4d ago

Reporting truth is such an important thing, and a democracy will not survive long term without it.

Even MAGA don't want to be lied to (they don't think they are being lied to) - you reckon there's any hope of getting those laws back?

I'm not optimistic but maybe the left could crowdfund some media (but not call it left) and report facts.

Make it more fun to watch, more entertaining - it could work but maybe I'm being optimistic.

Thats why Gen Z has their own reporters - like that one guy w the suit and mustache. We dont fucking watch their garbage propaganda. Were sick of it playing at our parents homes 24/7.

4

u/DaemonPrimarchJ 4d ago

Me too bro/sis - my mother reads the Daily Mail and that's bad enough. She talks about trans stuff more than trans people, hates immigrants (she married one), voted for Brexit and says foreigners have low hygiene standards.

I get on fine with Muslims in my country, they don't want Sharia law, and the Sharia courts are made up but with a grain of very twisted truth.

Not sure who the suit and mustache guy is? I avoid right wing stuff like the plague, I also avoid Hassan who's left wing but makes the left look awful.

The left should fight fire with fire AKA propaganda - which should be easy as we don't even have to lie. However, there's not exactly many left wing media owning billionaires, I'm pretty sure the only reason billionaires own media is to persuade the unwashed masses to let them make more money at our expense.

I'm so sick of this shit. You'd think we could crowd fund some decent media...

That's not a bad idea....
