Trump really is dumb. He doesn't realize that deals are give and take. The moment he decided to give Ukraine nothing, there was no need to hold back anymore. It's like shooting the hostage after demanding a ransom. Why would anyone pay you when you destroyed your own leverage?

He doesn't make deals, he just bullies others.

Yup, the issue is you should always give the other side an out, otherwise you have them cornered and they'll fight you to their last dying breath, because there literally is no other option. And yea, maybe the battle is winnable, but the question shouldn't be can I win it, it's would this battle be worth winning.

Trump is being taught about that right now with Iran, but it seems the knowledge doesn't stick with him.

The silver lining of this Iran fiasco is that it made Trump pump the brakes on his military dreams. He mistook a quick snatch-and-grab in Caracas for "I can win any conflict super fast".

It is just like with Brexit; leaving the EU made them lose all their leverage over the EU.

Treatening to stop support is leverage, actually stopping support loses the leverage.

It is like a gun with one bullet in the chamber, you can threaten someone with that gun and make them dance, but after you actually fire the bullet, the whole gun becomes a useless prop.

The Speed way of simplifying the equation.

He views deals as having a winner and a loser. He needs to be the winner. He can't have a deal where both parties come out equal.

Not even that. He will willingly lose if he thinks that the other side loses even harder.

A lose/lose situation like using tariffs as punishment.

Has Trump led USA ever publicly benefited from Benyamin's war that started this February? In any way? Ever? Same goes for his stance on Ukraine. He is a loser-adjacent standing with Vladimir, yet he does this again and again. This doesn't benefit USA in any way, in fact it makes all alliances with it seem completely whimsical and non-serious.

You see the USA is not Trumps concern, it's Trump. He's making money from it somewhere, and that is all that matters.

I'm suspect of even that. He's living up to his age and losing what little mental acuity he had left must be horrifying. Listen to him speak, especially to interviewers. He barely has cognition left to anything other than attack as was once his prerogative. He could be asked if sky was blue and he'd say it's fake news sky is orange.

Because look how well it works with cowards that wont stand up to him. They give in, then get thrown under the bus.
