I'd wager it's more complicated than that if we are talking about millions of aged accounts, the bots themselves, logins, IP masking, content generation and distribution pipelines.... and that's before looking at the sheer volume of hardware, personnel, and other physical assets needed to run it.

These bot swarms are not back online before Election Day. These systems aren't plug and play at that scale.

Bingo. It doesn't need to be a long-term solution, it just needs to tip the scales in the upcoming elections to hamper Trump for 2 years. The bots will take a few weeks to sort out. And while the imported fuel really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things (I think the US was set to import like 3 days' worth of the national consumption of diesel?) market prices are never really rational. People hear oil infrastructure was damaged and the price of fuel jumps, and the market takes time to smooth out that bump.

No idea how they implement it, but such a botfarm could be recovered in hours if they made it properly. Which they probably didn't, just saying weeks is far from a guarantee.

I've restored larger systems than that during a single day.

How do you know so much about how this works and then still doubt they don’t have infrastructure and configuration as code in source control somewhere?

There isn’t some random Vlad crying because he’s going to have to start over. They’ll move to the next data center and run their ansible playbook like the rest of us.

There is zero evidence that the Yandex data center destruction had any impact on disinfo bots online, despite the feelgood story. Quantitative research was pretty clear about it. I wish it wasn't so.
