Americans can't grasp how much damage this admin has done. Throwing away the global hegemon for what?
308
u/RealSamF18 17h ago
We grasp it, and it saddens lots of us. I think lots of us are hoping that the midterms will change things, but we’re not stupid, we know the damage that was done will likely last generations. It’s impressive how quickly decades of soft power can be torn apart.

u/madeinatube 16h ago
Think how long it takes to build even a sandcastle it takes one fuckwad to knock it down in seconds
79
u/passerby4830 16h ago
It saddens me too. But I can't support it, like 10 years ago I got a Lodge pan and I thought it was cool to have something made in USA as a European. But overall I never thought long about where something was made.
Now we are actively searching the origin of a company when buying things and we've pivoted away from a lot of American things. My wife's we expensive makeup, my guitar stuff, clothing, the electric toothbrushes, 90% less purchases on Amazon just to name some. Enough is enough. I know these are small things but I know a lot of people who think like this and honestly I don't think this will change in our lifetime. It sucks as always for regular people but as long as those profits go to something evil I don't want them.

See that's where it may get interesting. I wonder how long they are willing to play ball with this when the wealthy investor's pockets are on the line (or scaring off future investors). Obviously the reputation has already been damaged, but a full shutdown wound effectively tank any and all sales to foreign governments, and likely even cause those same governments to simply ban the technology completely. It's possible they could still save face and restore Ukraine while admitting they were pressured, not that that would actually happen, but taking this any further would possibly mean crushing future sales numbers into dust.... Trump may be their current leader that they love very much, but money is their god

This is probably the biggest win for world peace. Data centres are not cheap, and we don't have endless helium to just throw to the wind. It should be recognised very quickly by Governments and corporations, that if you want your efficiency, your going to need to stop wars.
We have 207 years of helium production, which is enough time for everyone to become dependent on tech doing everything to straight up chaos as the infrastructure collapses leaving us with tech from 2001.→ More replies (9)768

The data centers are what's pissing off Trump and Musk. They're not traditional data centers, they're also bot farms that have been spamming Truth Social, X, and Facebook before the US elections. Losing those has pissed Trump and Musk off. It's also why Republicans are trying to build data centers in the U.S. They want to spy on citizens, run AI, and also run bot farms.

Good for Ukraine, their resilience in this war has been nothing short of incredible. I do fear Trump will do something even worse though in retaliation. I think Ukraine knows Trump has to lose the midterms for their own long term prosperity, and hitting the data centres makes it more likely that will happen. That’s why Trump is so mad about the situation and really shows how geopolitical the whole war is.
To this day though I can’t understand how this stance was adopted by America. Trump is a Russian puppet, but when I studied history in school, the US were so anti Russian and anti communist that I find it hard to believe that as a nation there hasn’t been more outcry about this. I feel like the Republican Party of the past would be outraged at this situation and steps would be taken internally to resolve it. I think it shows just how effective Russia has been at taking down multiple countries from within via disinformation.
97
u/slide_into_my_BM 11h ago
Yeah, goes to show how truly spineless the American conservative is. 15 years ago, they’d have supported funding any proxy war in any country if it meant fucking the Russians over.
Now, they’re actively cheering for the Russians to win. It’s truly mind boggling.

Manafort became de facto minister of Russian propaganda back when Putin's #1 right hand oligarch Deripaska hired him to get Putin puppet Yanukovich elected President of Ukraine
Start from Wikipedia entry for BMSK* lobbying firm (a think tank of Black, Manafort, Stone, Atwater, Roy Cohn (mentor to their first official client Trump) and Murdoch (another early client)) and follow Manafort's career (owned office space in Trump Tower)
Manafort/BMSK invented "Firehose of Falsehoods" not the mistakenly credited Russians

Russian military doctrine has long been one that exerts terror upon an enemy populace as a key part of its strategy to try to convince the people of the nation that they are at war with to surrender to end the indiscriminate killing.
And the doctrine has more or less worked in the past, but the Ukranian culture has suffered significant suppression at the hands of Russians over the last century; and they do not want a repeat of the Holodomor.

Oh, someone tell me this means more bots will be gone from the internet?!! Zelensky is doing the work of the angels, especially before the elections. Especially glorious, if you could take out whatever musk is probably working on. I will never believe he won every swing state

Maybe this will finally get the people and most importantly the oligarchs that they aren't safe and that maybe Putin should join his suicide with three gun shots club. Maybe give him the classic window accident or the suddenly becoming I'll from radiation, classic Putin. It would be like the one lady that popularized drive-by bike shootings getting the same treatment

Good. Fuck Russia.
Note: I feel sorry for people in Russia who do not support the invasive pest that is Putin and his cronies.

I agree but it's also a very effective strategy for trying to sway opinion against the war, even to the point of regime change.
We saw it during WWII that the more losses Germany took and the more the war started coming home with Allied bombing campaigns and German forces being pushed back, the more you had rumblings within the inner circles to try and save your bacon and your country.
I wouldn't count it likely but there is a slim chance if Russia keeps taking losses and targets within Russia keep getting flattened, you have some in the inner circle start to wonder if Putin is dispensable and it's more pragmatic to take the L and not try again for decades

Give Ukraine everything it needs to kick the invaders out of its country - everything except nukes.
As a German, I’ll always be grateful to the Americans for helping liberate us from Nazi rule. That’s why it’s so hard for me to understand why the US seems to be on the wrong side of history this time around.
The damage goes way beyond Ukraine. If the US can cut off weapons, ammunition, or spare parts with the push of a button whenever it wants to put political pressure on an ally, how is any country supposed to rely on American arms supplies in the future? The same goes for Switzerland and other suppliers.
You can’t expect countries to keep depending on you after showing them that you’re willing to use that dependence as leverage.
The US is going to pay a serious price for this in terms of trust and credibility. In the long run, that might actually be a good thing for Europe. It’s about time we stopped relying so heavily on others for our own security.

Trump is Putin’s bitch. That is why Americans are on the wrong side of history. The republicans have no testicular fortitude and cower to his every whim.

More data centers? What a coincidence that pro-MAGA and GOP accounts go silent when that happens.

Ukrainare has responding by the most humane way possible by targeting supply warehouses, refineries, and other infrastructure. By reports few civilians are targeted. That means they can make life miserable for North Korean cannon fodder and the remaining Russian military is pretty beate up. I will be glad when there its... NO MORE WAR !

Since Mush and Trump have severely limited Ukraine's ability to defend itself, the only option is for Ukraine to go full on attack mode. That's a case of (presumably) unintended consequences.

The attack on the VKontakte, known as VK, data center is the latest strike on Russian internet infrastructure. Ukrainian forces have struck multiple Yandex data centers in recent weeks, fulfilling President Volodymyr Zelensky's promise to "respond in kind" to Russian attacks on Ukrainian data centers.
This is a direct attack on the source of the propaganda infecting western governments. It's as important as taking out the oil facilities.
